Abstract

This article positions the "Muslimah Media Center" (MMC) as the Islamic digital preaching activities. This religious community media identifies itself as an Islamic platform with a commitment to propagating Islamic values. It actively presents content analyzing various Islamic issues and often campaigns for Islam as a practical and effective solution to every problem. The portrayal of religious reality presented in the digital space plays a significant role in shaping the image of Islam in the virtual world. Hence, there is a need for an investigation into digital preaching activism that shapes the image of Islam, employing a Critical Public Relations (PR) perspective. The objective is to provide a critical and explorative explanation to understand how Islamic performance is showcased through the Muslimah Media Center. This study uses virtual ethnography as its method, as the data collected is sourced from digital traces and artifacts. Consequently, it can be concluded that the image of Islam generated by this digital preaching activism not only reinforces religious beliefs but also disseminates certain ideologies that are assumed to be in contrast with other religious ideologies.

Abstract

The mystical mindset is not only common among Indonesians, who frequently associate all events with the supernatural. In neighboring countries, such as Malaysia and Thailand, there is a belief in the existence of mystical or occult things. This research aims to describe the mystery of Banaspati in ASEAN countries, specifically Indonesia, Thailand, and Malaysia. Furthermore, this study will describe the story of Islamization in Java, which is inextricably linked to the influence of mysticism, one of which is Banaspati. This study employs a descriptive-qualitative methodology with a content analysis strategy. According to the study's findings, Indonesians believe that Banaspati, particularly in Java, is a supernatural ghost or spirit that manifests as a blazing fire with great power. In Thailand. Bong fai phayanak (dragon fireballs) is a supernatural phenomenon that occurs in the Mekong River and is caused by the Mekong River's guardian dragon in October. In Malaysia, it is known as polong or "fireball." People in Malaysia believe that a pod is a form of a mystical pet item of humans who have black magic, which functions to bring disaster to someone they don't like. The community's concept of fire elemental ghosts is related to the beliefs of Buddhists in Thailand and Muslims in Indonesia, especially in Java.

Abstract

This article discusses how the leadership of the first era of Indonesian President Joko Widodo (2014-2019) managed Islam as one aspect of his country’s identity in the global arena. The authors argue that two things influenced the image of Indonesian Islam in the Widodo era. First is the domestic pressure to reclaim the trust of Islamic political groups. Second is a global interest to maintain the status quo as a country with moderate Islamic characteristics that is also active in pursuing world peace. To do this, the authors use a two-level game point of view that sees the constellation of domestic politics and then relates it to how theWidodo government carries out its foreign diplomatic strategy. This article finds that the Widodo administration in the first era could balance the interests of creating an image of a friendly government to Islamic groups. On the other hand, it can also fulfil its commitment to engage in diplomacy as a middle power through strategies dominated by results oriented bilateralism.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the history of halal-bihalal gathering held in the Mangkunegaran Palace. The tradition was carried out distinctively during the Mangkunegara VIII era in 1945-1978. The period marked the shift from the Colonial era to the Independent era of Indonesia, resulting in the dynamics of procession and aim of halal-bihalal. The culture-historical approach was employed to determine the specific pattern of phenomenon and to understand the morphology of culture. The stages of historical method, namely heuristics, criticism, historiography, and interpretation, were done. The results of research based on the theory of symbolism and the role of power show that halal-bihalal gathering in the Mangkunegaran reflected the social classes in which the invited guests with upper social level occupied the very very important personal seats. Nevertheless, the event also brought positive impact since people from various backgrounds could gather peacefully and eliminate the conflicts among the classes. As an implication, the tradition was perceived as an important event and held regularly. It was also popular outside the palace and imitated by Islamic organizations using the same term, halal-bihalal.
