Abstract

Physical Education, Sport and Health (PJOK) plays an important role in the holistic development of elementary school students, not only from the physical aspects but also mental, social, emotional children can also learn discipline, cooperation and also maintain health from an early age. However, the implementation and prioritization of this subject is often influenced by teachers' perceptions as the main implementers in the field. This study aims to explore the views of physical education teachers regarding the importance of physical education in primary schools as well as the factors that influence their perceptions and also to find out how physical education teachers interpret the urgency of physical education in supporting the motor, cognitive and social development of primary school-age children. The research method used qualitative. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with PJOK teachers from Plumbungan Elementary School. The results showed that the majority of PJOK teachers viewed physical education as a means to build physical fitness, motor skills, sportsmanship values, and student cooperation. However, several obstacles such as limited facilities, minimal time allocation, and lack of stakeholder support are challenges in optimizing learning. The implication of this study emphasizes the need to improve facilities, teacher training, and advocacy for the importance of PJOK in the school curriculum. This can be a reference for policy makers, schools, and teachers in strengthening physical education.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the use of traditional games in Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PJOK) learning as an effort to develop elementary school students' motor skills. Traditional games are considered relevant to the characteristics of elementary school students who tend to be active and enjoy playing, and are in line with the objectives of PJOK learning which not only emphasize physical aspects, but also social and emotional aspects. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation. The subjects of the study were PJOK teachers and students at an elementary school. The results of the study showed that traditional games such as rope jumping, hide and seek, gobak sodor, and engklek. can improve students' gross motor skills, such as balance, agility, and coordination of movement. In addition, this activity also fosters cooperation, sportsmanship, and a spirit of togetherness among students. In conclusion, the use of traditional games in PJOK learning is very effective in developing elementary school students' motor aspects in a fun and contextual way. Therefore, teachers suggest integrating traditional games as an alternative active learning strategy that is appropriate to child development.

Abstract

Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PJOK) isone of the compulsory subjects taught at the primary and secondary education levels in Indonesia. This study aims to determine how Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PJOK) learning is implemented for students with physical disabilities (Tuna Daksa) at SLB Bukesra Aceh. This research used a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The data were analyzed using three steps: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The research sample consisted of two classroom teachers and two students with physical disabilities. The results showed that PJOK learning at SLB Bukesra Aceh was running fairly well and adapted to the students’ abilities, although it was not yet optimal. Teachers used demonstration, practice, lecture, and question-and-answer methods. Evaluation was based on students’ abilities without a written assessment format. The main obstacles found were that teachers did not come from a physical education background, sports facilities were still limited, and parental support was not yet optimal. Therefore, training for teachers, the addition of disability-friendly sports facilities, and greater parental involvement are needed to improve PJOK learning for students with physical disabilities.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of life skill-based Physical Education (PE) in improving students’ movement skills and social values. The research employed a quasi-experimental design using a pretest–posttest control group. Participants were 60 junior high school students in Merauke, divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group received PE learning that integrated life skill elements such as cooperation, responsibility, and communication, while the control group followed conventional instruction. Data were collected through standardized movement skill tests and validated questionnaires on social values. The results showed a significant improvement in both movement skills and social values among students in the experimental group compared to the control group (p < 0.05). The findings indicate that incorporating life skills into PE lessons not only enhances physical performance but also develops students’ social competencies. This study suggests that life skill-based PE can serve as an effective approach to fostering holistic student development within the Merdeka Belajar curriculum framework. These findings provide practical guidance for physical education teachers in designing more effective learning activities to enhance students’ fundamental movement skills and social values.
