Abstract

Nowadays, listening to music is an activity favored by young people. There is lots of music streaming applications that can help them listen to music anywhere. Joox is a music streaming application used by young people to listen to music. Some of them use Joox to listen to inter-local music. Not only providing audio, Joox also provides the lyrics for the song. These services can be an interesting way to improve vocabulary and listening skills. Some learners find it difficult to capture vocabulary when they are listening to audio.The purpose of this study was to determine student perceptions regarding the use of Joox as a learning method that is used in addition to outside of classroom in increasing self-motivation towards learning English, especially in listening, The statements that given are about the impact of using Joox to their vocabulary and listening skill using likert scale. The result of questionnaire revealed that students have positive perception toward the use of Joox in enhancing their vocabulary and listening.This research used quantitative and qualitative methods in data collectionwith a purposive sampling technique. Data were analyzed with SPSS 20 to get standard deviations, averages, and medians. The population of this research was the 2017 English language students at IAIN Palangka Raya. 40 students as samples to answered questionnaire questions to complete the research objectives. 5 students as the main speakers in the interview to explain more deeply about the student perception about Joox in listening skill. To collect data, researchers used questionnaires and interviews.This research will explain more about how effective the use of Joox outside the classroom is using the Joox application. The main research findings show that: (1) Students was motivated to learn English when used Joox app because Joox provider lyric, student can listen song meanwhile listen song. (2) Students had positive perception on using Joox because they think used Joox not only improve their listening skill but also practice their pronunciation. (3) Student feel their listening skill engaged after used Joox app and enrich their vocabulary through listen song. effects in using Joox as a learning tool that can motivate listening skills.

Abstract

Teaching is a profession that requires specialized skills and knowledge to impact significantly on student learning. One factor associated with improved achievement among learners is the position at which they sit in a classroom. This means that where students sit in the classroom may affect their academic achievement. Many researchers believe that students who sit in the front tend to have higher scores compared to the ones who sit in the back. Because teachers tend to direct more questions to students seated in the front rows of the classroom. Students seated at the back interact more with each other, in a disruptive way, thus minimizing their opportunity to learn. Educators should pay attention more to the classroom seating position of the students in order to perform highly estimated teaching learning process. Consequently, seating position may give significant difference in helping students to get good quality of teaching learning process.The aim of this research was to find out the significant difference of the ahievements between students that sit in front and back rows. This study was focused to find out the difference of the achievement in English speaking abilities towards 2016 and 2017 academic year students of English Department IAIN Palangka Raya.The method of this research was quantitave and ex post facto was the design of the research. The sample of the research was 2016 and 2017 academic year students of English Department at IAIN Palangka Raya consisting of 40 students taken by random sampling technique. The researcher used two kinds of instruments to collect the data of two variables. The instruments were questionnaire and speaking test. The first instrument was speaking test. Abstract

This study was designed to know students‟ perception toward english teacher pedagogical competence. The survey design was applied in this study. The research subjects were the eleventh-grade students in senior high school. In Government Regulation No.74 2008 there are four competencies that the teacher should have. The focus of this research is on teacher‟s pedagogical competence. In National Education Standards Agency pedagogical competence is teacher‟s ability in understanding the students, designing and implementing the learning, evaluating the learning outcome and also the development of the potentials that the student have. This study used questionnaire to collect the data from the students. The researcher distributed the questionnaire to the students in google form via WhatsApp. The findings showed that the students have a possitive perception toward English teacher pedagogical competence which contained (1) understanding students; (2) designing and implementing learning; (3) evaluating learning outcomes; (4) development of learners to actualize the potential they have. The English teacher pedagogical competence categorized sufficient competence which 57% (Neutral).
