Abstract

The flow of interpretation often becomes 'commonplace' when examining the dynamics of Qur'anic exegesis, particularly in the classical and medieval periods. Sayyid Qutb, in his work Tafsir fi Zilal al-Qur'an, is believed to incorporate a da'wah narrative aimed at disseminating a comprehensive understanding of Islamic law. His interpretation reflects the historical context and personal experiences of the Mufassir, which influenced his interpretative style. For instance, materialism and hedonism are seen as underlying factors that have led to certain interpretative perspectives, phenomena that remain prevalent in society today. Therefore, this study seeks to uncover the da'wah narrative in Sayyid Qutb's interpretation and explore his response to the phenomenon of a hedonistic lifestyle, specifically referring to QS. al-Hadid: 20, QS. al-An'am: 32, QS. al-Qasas: 32, and  QS. at-Takathur: 1-2. To achieve this, the research employs a qualitative methodology, utilizing content analysis as a data analysis tool. The study's findings reveal Sayyid Qutb's efforts to uphold Islamic reform by opposing life systems that marginalize Islamic values, such as materialism and hedonism. In Sayyid Qutb's perspective, hedonism is addressed through advocating for a balanced approach that harmonizes worldly pursuits with the values of the hereafter.

Abstract

The concept of khilafah in Islamic thought has sparked considerable debate and conflict, particularly following the rise of the Hizbut Tahrir (HT) movement, which advocates for the establishment of a global Islamic government based on Taqiyuddin al-Nabhani's interpretation of khilafah. This study aims to trace the evolution of the meaning of khilafah from its origins in the Qur'an to its modern interpretation by al-Nabhani. Utilizing Julia Kristeva's intertextuality approach, the study explores how these changes in meaning occur and identifies the sources that have influenced al-Nabhani's thought. The findings indicate that the concept of khilafah in the Qur'an fundamentally denotes representation, applicable to both humans as God's vicegerents on earth and within a governmental framework. Nevertheless, the Qur'an does not provide explicit, detailed guidelines regarding the khilafah as a system of governance. Al-Nabhani reinterprets khilafah as a government founded on Islamic Shari'ah, structured around four primary pillars, and intended to have a global reach. The study reveals significant shifts in the meaning of khilafah, characterized by processes of transformation, modification, and expansion, reflecting the context and ideological perspectives that al-Nabhani introduces. These shifts are marked by the ideologeme of transposition, illustrating the adaptation of the concept to fit new ideological frameworks and contexts.

Abstract

The methodology can be used in the interpretation of the Qur'an is ra’y, means ijtihad. In order to produce a correct methodologically interpretation, ra’y should be accompanied by certain requirements and methodological steps, such as knowing the rules of interpretation and linguistic sciences. Al-Kasysyaf is one of many interpretation books have been criticized by the strong ideological tendencies of its commentator. It can be seen in the interpretation of verses which have ideological content. Since Al-Zamakhsyari, the commentator, was also known by his expertise in language and literature, it raises a question, what if the verses contain ideology are not possible to be interpreted according to i’tizal when follows the rules of linguistic? This question is what the author intends to examine. This study aims to the implementation of the rule of marji‘ al-dlamir in verses mention the word man yasya’. After using both linguistic approach and theological approach to determine the direction of the interpretation produced by Al-Zamakhsyari, the study found that the rule of marji‘ al-dlamir is still applied thoroughly. However, the result of interpretation still has the nuance of i’tizal because of the takwil used by Al-Zamakhsyari.

Abstract

The debate over changing the term kafir to non-Muslim has become a prominent issue in Indonesia in recent years. This study aims to uncover the contextual meaning behind the interpretation of QS. At-Taubah: 5, which is central to this debate. Utilizing a contextual approach, the research focuses on both linguistic and historical analyses of QS. At-Taubah: 5. Linguistically, this verse is often quoted out of context by hardline Muslim groups without considering its connection to the surrounding verses, as well as related verses such as QS. al-Anfal 54-58. Historically, the verse is closely linked to the context of war arising from treaty violations. In pre-Islamic Arab society, war was a deeply ingrained part of the culture, and this verse specifically addresses conflicts triggered by treaty violations by certain groups, rather than targeting all polytheists. The findings suggest that the relevance of QS. At-Taubah: 5 needs to be reconsidered in the modern context, especially given that wars are now infrequent, particularly in Indonesia. Furthermore, the categorization of infidels is likely to evolve over time in response to changing societal norms and political dynamics. A reinterpretation using a contextual approach can provide a clearer understanding of the verse and help prevent its misuse to justify acts of violence.

Abstract

It is known that the problem of alcoholic beverages has been prevalent in the past and is still prevalent today. This action leads to many bad things that can damage yourself and cause others. This article seeks to give new thoughts on real or existing problems in the Qur'an. Efforts to explore or analyze the text of the Qur'an, especially discussing alcohol, can be reviewed from a literary (language) perspective, also known as semiotics. This research wants to see how the role of Julia Kristeva's semiotics with its intertextuality approach theory to reveal and trace from one text to another related to the discussion being studied. So it takes a type of qualitative research that is literature in which the collection of data is taken from books, scientific works, especially those related to liquor. The purpose of applying Julia Kristeva's intertextuality theory is to analyze the data that has been collected in order to reveal the transformations, modifications and parallels that occur from all texts. The results obtained from Julia Kristeva's intertextuality theory regarding liquor. There are transformations, modifications and parallels that occur in the three verses about liquor, namely QS. Al-Baqarah (2): 219, QS. An-Nisa' (4): 43 and QS. Al-Ma'idah (5): 90-91. The first verse warns that intoxicants contain many evils and harms. The second verse explains that it is not recommended to pray while drunk. It is known that the habits of the Arab community at that time could not be separated from liquor, even when they wanted to pray. This is the transformation and modification that occurs in the first verse to the second verse. The parallel is known in the previous two verses and this third verse both discuss liquor, but in this verse there is a meaning of confirmation of the prohibition of liquor.
