Abstract

New species are described in Cinnamomum (12), Cryptocarya (8), Endiandra (2) and Litsea (1). New combinations are proposed in Actino-daphne (1), Cinnamomum (20), Endiandra (1), Litsea (1), Neolitsea (1). Moreover new names are proposed in Cryptocarya (1) and Litsea (7). The generic name Kubitzkia van der Werff is considered invalid and numerous species are reduced to synonymy for the first time.

Abstract

This revision of the Malaysian genera of Nelsonieae,of which an emended description is given, covers three genera, Staurogyne Wall.(52 species),Nelsonia R. Br.(1),and Elytraria Vahl (2).A new subdivision of Staurogyne is proposed.Among the new taxa described are 24 species (including 1 variety raised to specific rank) and 18 varieties. Moreover,4 new combinations and 1 new name are proposed.

Abstract

ARDIYANI, M., POULSEN, A. D., SUKSATHAN, P., BORCHSENIUS, F. 2010. Marantaceae in Sulawesi. Reinwardtia 13(2): 213-220. - Six species of Marantaceae occur in Sulawesi. We present a key to the species together with a taxonomic treatment with notes on species delimitation, distribution, habitat and ecology, vernacular names and uses. One species endemic to Sulawesi and not covered by any contemporary publication, Phrynium longispicum (Warb. ex K. Schum.) Suksathan & Borchs. is described and neotypified. Donax canniformis (G. Forst.) K. Schum., Phrynium pubinerve Blume, Phrynium robinsonii (Valeton) Suksathan & Borchs, Stachyphrynium latifolium (Blume) K. Schum. and Stachyphrynium repens (Korn.) Suksathan & Borchs. are also reported from Sulawesi and characterized. For the two last species these occurrences represents an extension of their previously known range across Wallace's line.

Abstract

After a long illness, Prof. Ir. Kusnoto Setyodiwiryo died peacefully in his home in Bogor on 29 April 1981. He was the first Indonesian to become the Director of the Botanical Gardens of Indonesia, the forerunner of the National Biological Institute.

The host of this smut variety is identified as Panicum repens L. Thefungus is considered conspecific with Ustilago overeemii Cif., which sub-sequently is reclassified as Sporisorium overeemii (Cif.) Rifai, comb. nov.

Abstract

1. The present paper is the first of a series intended to deal from a nomen clatural point of view with all the generic names proposed for Hymenomycetes.For each name the following items are considered: (i) its etymology and gender, (ii) the original scope of the corresponding genus, and, in case of the name being- an isonym,also of the group covered by its basinym; (iii) the type species, which when not originally designated, is selected; (iv) its basinym, synisonyms,homonyms, typonyms,and variant spellings, if any, are indicated; (v) its status under the Rules is determined;and (vi) supplementary remarks are given when these are deemed useful.2. This first instalment deals with "Cyphellaceae," a group defined in a conventional, rather descriptive, manner, not as a taxonomic unit. 3. A new generic name, Stromatoscypha Donk, is introduced for Porothelium(Pr. ex Fr.) Fr.4. The following new combinations are made: Aleurodiscus digitalis (A. & S.ex Fr.) Donk [basinym: Cyphella digitalis (A. & S.) ex Fr.], and Stromatoscypha fimbriata (Pers. ex Fr.) Donk [basinym: Polyporus fimbriatus (Pers.) ex Fr.].

Abstract

KARTAWINATA, KUSWATA; SAMSOEDIN, ISMAYADI; HERIYANTO, M. AND AFRIASTINI, J. J. 2004. A tree species inventory in a one-hectare plot at the Batang Gadis National Park, North Sumatra, Indonesia. Reinwardtia 12 (2): 145 – 157. The results of the inventory of trees with DBH = 10 cm shows that 184 species in 41 families, represented by 583 individuals with the total basal areas of 40.56 m² occurred in the one-hectare plot sampled. Together with the saplings and shrubs the number of species was 240 belonging to 47 families. The forest is richer in tree species than other lowland forests in North Sumatra, but poorer than those in Borneo and the Malay Peninsula. Dipterocarps constituted 18.42 % of total species with basal area of 18.99 m² or 46.82 % of the total basal area in the plot. The most prominent species was Shorea gibbosa. Hopea nigra, reported to be rare in Bangka and Belitung, occurred here as one of the ten leading species. The species-area curve shows that a considerable number of additional species was encountered more or less steadily up to one hectare and there was no indication of levelling off. A simulated profile diagram shows the forest may be stratified into five layers: (1) emergent layer, (2) upper canopy, (3) middle canopy, (4) lower canopy and (5) ground canopy. Dipterocarps were leading species in the emergent layer, upper canopy and middle canopy. Only 82 species were regenerating as represented by their presence in the sapling stage ranging from 5 to 50 plants/hectare. Macaranga lowii King ex Hook. f. dominated the section which seemed to be previously occupied by gaps.

Abstract

NGANGBAM, R. D., DEVI, N. P., DEVI, M. H. & SINGH, P. K. 2019. Rediscovery of Aldrovanda vesiculosa L. (Droseraceae), an endangered plant, from Manipur in India after six decades, with studies on micromorphology and physico-chemistry of water. Reinwardtia 18(2): 71‒80. — A small population of the aquatic insectivorous plant Aldrovanda vesiculosa L. of Droseraceae family was found growing in Yena pat, a small lake having an area of about 0.939 km2 in Bishnupur district, Manipur state, India. This marks its rediscovery in India after a long gap of 64 years. The present status of the species in the updated IUCN Red List of Threatened Species version 2018.2 is endangered and considered extinct from India. A general description and micromorpho-taxonomic studies are included. As the species is a bioindicator, physico-chemical studies of the water were also investigated so as to provide aid in both in-situ and ex-situ conservation strategies. Immediate conservation initiatives are warranted to maintain the species after its rediscovery.
