Abstract

The skills that can be developed through education are 21st century skills, including the ability to solve problems related to issues faced in everyday life. Therefore, students need to be taught problem solving by using PBL model based on multiple representations on ecosystem material. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of PBL based on multiple representations in class X ecosystem material on students' problem solving skills. The research design used is an experiment with the quasi experiment method. The population in this study were all grade X students at SMAN 14 Semarang in the 2023/2024 school year. Sampling in this study using purposive random sampling technique based on the teacher's consideration that the selected class has a balanced ability. Two classes were sampled, namely class X5 as the experimental class which was given treatment using PBL model based on multiple representations and X9 as the control class which was given treatment using PBL model without multiple representations. Based on the results of the research, students' problem solving skills have increased in both experimental and control classes. The N-Gain test results of the experimental class are 0.3661 which means an increase in problem solving ability is moderate, while the N-Gain results of the control class are 0.1544 which means an increase in problem solving ability is low. The T-test results show that there is a significant difference between the average pretest-posttest scores in the experimental class and a significant average difference between the posttest scores in the experimental and control classes. The results of the Spearman Rank correlation test show that the Sig. (2-tailed) 0.880>0.05 which means that the application of PBL based on multiple representations has no effect on students' problem solving skills on ecosystem material. This can be influenced by several factors, namely the PBL model used, the formation of discussion groups, and also the number of multiple representations taught to students.

Abstract

At SMA Negeri 1 Tengaran, students' critical thinking and collaboration skills in environmental change material are still low. This is reinforced by student learning results in environmental change material which show that only 40.62% of students meet the criteria for achieving learning objectives and the results of the collaboration skills questionnaire which show that 32.3% of students find it difficult to collaborate with friends. These results are motivated by the low level of student involvement in learning so that a student-centered learning model is needed, such as the NHT type learning model assisted by problem-based LKPD. This learning model can train critical thinking skills through learning activities that invite students to think in solving problems on the LKPD while also training students' collaboration skills through group collaboration. The aim of this research is to analyze the effect of implementing the NHT type learning model assisted by problem-based LKPD on students' critical thinking and collaboration skills in environmental change material. The research is Pre-Experimental research with one group pretest-posttest. The research sample consisted of classes X-1, X-4 and X-5 which were selected using purposive sampling techniques. Critical thinking skills data were analyzed using the paired sample T-test while collaboration skills data used the Wilcoxon test. The results of the Paired Sample T test show a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05), meaning that the use of the NHT model assisted by problem-based LKPD has an effect on students' critical thinking skills. Each aspect of critical thinking has an N-gain value > 0.3 with the highest N-Gain in the indicators of advanced clarification and strategies & tactics. For the collaboration variable, the results of the Wilcoxon test show an Asymp.Sig.(2-tailed) value of 0.000 (<0.05), meaning that the use of the NHT model assisted by problem-based LKPD has an effect on collaboration skills. Each aspect of collaboration has an N-gain value > 0.3 (medium category) with the highest N-Gain in the indicator of working in a group. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the application of the NHT model assisted by problem-based LKPD has an effect in improving students' critical thinking and collaboration skills at SMA Negeri 1 Tengaran in environmental change material. The results of this research can be used as an alternative learning model to improve students' critical thinking and collaboration skills.

Abstract

The results of the PISA study in 2015 show that the critical thinking ability of the majority of students in Indonesia is still low. The low critical thinking ability of students is an indicator that determines the quality of student learning outcomes. One of the reasons is that there are not many learning media that are able to facilitate the diversity of student learning that can be accessed by mobile. E-Modules that are made specifically for differentiated learning are media developed to answer these problems. The purpose of this study is to determine the characteristics, feasibility, and effectiveness of interactive e-modules in differentiated learning to improve students' critical thinking skills and learning outcomes. This study refers to the development research design of Borg and Gall which consists of 10 steps, but the researcher only conducts research up to the eighth step, namely Operational Field Testing. Data collection was carried out by interview, questionnaire and test methods (pretest and posttest). The data analysis techniques in this study are descriptive analysis, feasibility percentage analysis and N-Gain test. The e-module developed has a special characteristic, namely the existence of features that support differentiating content, processes and products based on visual and auditory learning styles. The results of the e-module feasibility test by validators of media experts and material experts, both received very feasible criteria with percentages of 99.3% and 93.4%. In the feasibility test by users, very feasible criteria were also obtained, both in the teacher's response and the student's response, with a percentage of 96% and 83.25%, respectively. In the N-Gain test, the results of the e-module were also found to be effective in improving students' critical thinking skills and learning outcomes, with an average class N-Gain score of 0.85. So the conclusion is that the interactive e-module on differentiated learning has proven to be feasible and effective in improving students' critical thinking skills and learning outcomes on the Body Defense System material.
