Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Hatch and Carry Center (H&C) in increasing the population of Elaeidobius kamerunicus pollinating weevils, fruit set levels, and Fresh Fruit Bunch (FFB) productivity in oil palm plantations at Division 6 Estate SGT 02, PT Kayung Agro Lestari, West Kalimantan. The research was conducted over six months, from July to December 2024, using a quasi-experimental comparative design. The period without H&C (July–December 2023) served as the control, while the period with H&C (July–December 2024) was treated as the intervention, allowing for a clearer analysis of differences before and after program implementation. Primary data were collected through monthly field observations on the number of male and female flowers, weevil populations, fruit set levels, and parthenocarpic fruits, providing consistent information on plant reproductive dynamics. In addition, in-depth interviews and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with stakeholders were conducted to identify supporting and inhibiting factors during implementation. Secondary data on FFB production were obtained from company harvest records in both periods to compare productivity trends. Quantitative data analysis employed the t-test to examine significant differences between the control and treatment periods, while qualitative data were thematically analyzed to explore the dynamics of program execution. The combination of both approaches is expected to provide a comprehensive understanding of the effectiveness of H&C as an innovation in oil palm pollination management.

Abstract

Indonesia is known as an agrarian country with abundant natural resources; however, challenges remain in achieving food security, particularly in rice production. Bagok Village, East Barito Regency, Central Kalimantan, has considerable potential for rice cultivation, yet farmers face constraints such as limited knowledge of cultivation practices, restricted access to technology, and insufficient training or extension support. This study aims to analyze the improvement of farmers’ knowledge after participating in technology transfer activities. A qualitative approach supported by quantitative data was employed, with data collected through observation, interviews, focus group discussions, questionnaires, and documentation. Data were analyzed using a process of reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show significant improvements in farmers’ knowledge across three key aspects: rice cultivation based on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) increased by 57.6%, water management by 54.98%, and pest and disease control by 35%. These findings highlight the importance of continuous and participatory training to encourage the adoption of agricultural innovations. Overall, technology transfer activities have proven effective in strengthening farmers’ capacity to manage rice fields more efficiently, thereby supporting national food security efforts.

Abstract

Cocoa is recalcitrant seed which it has the high water content and the deterioration goes quickly. The distribution of cocoa seed need longer time and it will decrease the quality of cocoa seed and cocoa seedling. The research aimed to determine of effectiveness seed soaking with Beauveria bassiana after storage during the distribution of seed. This research was conducted in Indonesian Cofee and Cocoa Research Institute. The research was conduct using randomized complete block design with a factorial arrangement. First  factor was the  storage period  of two days (L2), three days (3 hari), four days (L4), five days (L5), six (L6) and seven days (L7). The second factor was seed soaking with Beauveria bassiana (B1) and seed soaking with fungicide (B0). The result showed that storage periode had significant effect on  plant height and stem diameter. Seed soaking with Beauveria bassiana showed significant effect on plant height. The interaction between storage periode and seed soaking with Beauveria bassiana had no significant effect on the height of seedling, stem diameter and leaf number of seedling.

Abstract

Japanese kale (Brassica oleracea) is a leafy vegetable with high nutritional and economic value and strong potential for development through intensive cultivation systems, including polybag-based cultivation. Fertilization is an important factor determining plant growth success. This study aimed to analyze differences in the effects of cattle-manure compost fertilizer and NPK Mutiara fertilizer on the vegetative growth of Japanese kale, as well as to evaluate their roles in maintaining growing media fertility. The research employed a quantitative experimental approach using a single-factor Completely Randomized Design (CRD), namely fertilizer type. Treatments consisted of cattle-manure compost fertilizer and NPK Mutiara fertilizer, each with twelve replications, resulting in twenty-four experimental units. Observed parameters included plant height, leaf width, and growing media pH. The results showed that NPK Mutiara fertilizer produced better plant height and leaf width than compost fertilizer, particularly during the vegetative phase. This advantage was associated with the rapid availability of macronutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium for plant uptake. Meanwhile, cattle-manure compost fertilizer contributed to stabilizing growing media pH and improving soil physical and biological conditions. pH values in both treatments remained within the optimal range and did not limit plant growth. Therefore, NPK Mutiara fertilizer is more effective for short-term vegetative growth enhancement, whereas compost fertilizer supports sustainable growing media fertility.

Abstract

This research was conducted in April 2024 in Kota Besi Hulu Village, Kota Besi Subdistrict, Kotawaringin Timur Regency. The research location was determined purposively. The objectives of this study were: (1) to analyze the characteristics of tomato farmers in Kota Besi Hulu Village, Kota Besi Subdistrict, Kotawaringin Timur Regency; and (2) to analyze the factors influencing tomato production in the same area. The sampling technique employed was a census (saturated sampling), in which all active tomato farmers who were members of farmer groups in Kota Besi Hulu Village were included as respondents. A total of 64 tomato farmers participated in this study. The data collected were analyzed using the Cobb–Douglas production function model. The results of the study in Kota Besi Hulu Village, Kota Besi Subdistrict, Kotawaringin Timur Regency, indicate important patterns in local farming practices based on data regarding land area, fertilizer use, seed use, pesticide use, and tomato production. The majority of farmers cultivated land ranging from 7,060.12 to 7,614.72 hectares, reflecting a tendency to manage relatively large farm areas. In terms of fertilizer application, most farmers used between 130.05 and 139.53 kilograms, suggesting a preference for higher input levels to achieve optimal yields. Regarding seed use, the dominant range was between 156.04 and 175.36 kilograms, which may contribute to better production outcomes. Pesticide application also showed a dominant pattern within the range of 4,001.72 to 4,878.76 liters, indicating farmers’ primary strategy in controlling pests and diseases.

Abstract

This study explores the impact of interactive games on the English vocabulary mastery of grade XI Animal Nursing students at the Kupang State Agricultural Vocational School. Given the low level of vocabulary mastery in vocational high school students, the study aims to investigate how using Gamestolearnenglish.com, an interactive game-based platform, can enhance vocabulary skills. A quasi-experimental design with pre- and post-treatment assessments was implemented. The results showed a significant improvement in students' vocabulary mastery, with the average score rising from 73.70 to 83.52, an increase of 9.82 points. The Shapiro-Wilk test confirmed the normality of the data, and a paired-sample t-test revealed a significant difference between the pre- and post-assessment (p = 0.000). This suggests that the use of interactive games significantly contributes to the enhancement of students' ability to recognize, understand, spell, and use vocabulary. These findings highlight the effectiveness of game-based learning in improving English vocabulary skills among vocational high school students, particularly in agricultural fields.
