The research findings indicate the awareness of norms factors as a form of Inge Ndai language maintenance in the kinship domain. Awareness of language norms is evident in the utterances spoken by close relatives: fathers, mothers, aunts, and sisters-in-law. Awareness of the language norm is also reflected in specific forms of Inge Ndai utterances, such as: (1) response particles (e.g., ’uu’ and ’ae’), (2) kinship terms of address (e.g., ’aa’, ’ama’, ’ipe’, ’ela’, ’dua’, and ’baba’), and (3) personal pronominal terms of address (e.g., ’rae’, ’eme’, and ’emera’). The benefits of this research: (1) to serve as a reference for future researchers in the field of sociolinguistics that investigates minority languages, (2) to enrich knowledge regarding regional language and the importance of maintenance, specifically the minority language with limited speakers.

Abstract

In interpersonal communication, language skills are important to improve. However, this is difficult to apply to children with special needs, such as autism. Therefore, the purpose of the study is that the author wants to know the extent to which autistic students are able to articulate phonetic sounds and basic words correctly. In addition, this study also aims to determine the ability of sufferers to understand a concept instructed by the teacher. For this research method, the approach used is a qualitative study. Data collection was carried out by observation, interviews, and documentation of autistic students' speech accompanied by their teachers. Furthermore, the collected data will be analyzed. Data analysis was carried out using a qualitative descriptive method with a psycholinguistic analysis knife of the theory of child language acquisition, production, and use. The results of the study showed that autistic students with the category of being able to learn have better language skills. They can pronounce similar bilabial sounds, such as /p/ and /b/, count, and recognize concepts with instructions although they are still imperfect. Of course, this is caused by the child's lack of focus because there are other things he wants.

Abstract

Stand-up comedy is a monologue-based comedy that relies on the use of language as a means of constructing humor and conveying criticism. The use of language can be influenced by cultural backgrounds, which may potentially result in differences in the types and strategies of illocutionary speech acts employed by comedians. This study aims to describe and compare the types and strategies of illocutionary speech acts used by comedians Indra Jegel and Russell Peters from a cross-cultural pragmatic perspective. This research employs a qualitative approach using a case study method. The research data consists of utterances produced by Indra Jegel and Russell Peters containing illocutionary speech acts, obtained from two YouTube channels, namely Stand Up Kompas TV and the Just for Laughs channel. Data collection was conducted through observation and note-taking techniques. The data analysis technique consists of three main stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing/verification. The results of the study indicate that Indra Jegel tends to employ expressive and representative speech acts with varied strategies, while also utilizing nonverbal elements that reflect the characteristics of a high-context culture. Meanwhile, Russell Peters predominantly uses directives and representative speech acts with direct and literal strategies, reflecting the characteristics of a low-context culture. This study demonstrates that differences in the types and strategies of illocutionary speech acts in the stand-up comedy performances of Indra Jegel and Russell Peters are closely related to the cultural communication patterns of their respective countries, as explained through cultural context theory. This research is expected to contribute to the development of cross-cultural pragmatic studies and help society better understand intercultural communication patterns.

The data consisted of utterances containing Javanese registers obtained from Ling Ling Lieanti's content uploaded on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok from June 2024 to May 2025. Data were collected through observation, listening, transcription, and note taking techniques, then analyzed using pragmatic and referential equivalent methods including data transcription, identification of lingual units, data classification, analysis of scope of use, and drawing conclusions. The results show that the Javanese registers in Ling Ling Lieanti's content are categorized into linguistics forms consisting of single word forms and complex forms, including affixation, reduplication, compounding, and abbreviation. In terms of usage scope, the registers are divided into restricted and open registers.  Furthermore, the meanings identified include lexical, contextual, social, and cultural meanings. The study demonstrates that Javanese language registers function not only as communication tools but also as markers of local identity, humor, social relationship, and cultural representation in digital media.

Abstract

Writing anecdotal texts is an important language skill that requires students to organize ideas coherently according to the appropriate text structure. Differences in learning styles may influence how students develop and structure anecdotal texts. Therefore, this study aimed to describe the structure of anecdotal texts written by tenth-grade students of SMK NU Kaplongan based on visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach. The research subjects consisted of three students selected through purposive sampling, each representing a visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning style. The data comprised linguistic units from students' anecdotal texts, including words, phrases, sentences, and paragraphs that reflected the text's structure. Data were collected through a learning style questionnaire and documentation, and were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that all participants incorporated the full structure of anecdotal texts, comprising abstraction, orientation, crisis, reaction, and coda. However, differences were identified in the way the structures were organized. Visual learners tended to produce more systematic and coherent structures; auditory learners demonstrated relatively complete structures despite some inaccuracies in organizing certain elements; and kinesthetic learners presented complete structures but showed less variation in story development. These findings indicate that learning styles influence the characteristics of students' anecdotal text structures.
