Abstract

Poverty is a complex problem that is widespread in developing countries like Indonesia. MSMEs are seen as the engine of national economic progress, as they can engage large numbers of young people and the poor and thus increase productivity and community income for low-income groups. However, there are many problems with strengthening MSMEs, such as low-quality human resources, high raw material costs, intense business competition, lack of capital, lack of management skills, and a less conducive business climate. In the era of globalization, with a climate of intense business competition, one of the prerequisites for the survival of MSMEs is one of the capital requirements to increase the capacity and quality of the corresponding resources. Therefore, this article has been created to examine and examine what efforts can be made to strengthen MSMEs. This study uses qualitative research using a literature review method. We found that several programs that can be used as examples of MSME compatibility are: 1) Coaching programs in collaboration with the government, social agencies, and universities; 2) provide education and training to the public on business management and entrepreneurship; 3) develop digital technologies as a platform for MSMEs; 4) provide access to capital; 5) e-on learning;; 6) create policies that can encourage market-oriented MSMEs, 7) provide information to MSMEs, 8) build an innovative culture and 9) create entrepreneurship exhibitions and seminars to increase competitiveness.

Abstract

Rural households keep multiple livestock species across various income levels, and the sources of these animals differ. The study examined the dynamics in acquiring livestock assets and food security using a focus group discussion and cross-sectional survey of 400 households. Descriptive statistics and paired differences were employed to achieve the objectives. The results showed that livestock assets ownership within a household were mainly held as separate marital property. The ownership pattern indicated that men owned 81.3% of livestock assets while women held 14.9%, with 3.9% of livestock assets being jointly held by men and women. Also, livestock assets are acquired through inheritance, market purchases, NGO/Government and gifts. Women had limited opportunities in acquiring livestock compared to men due to discriminatory customary norms on inheritance. The paired difference in percentages of women’s and men’s total livestock proceeds spent on household food was significant, with women spending a higher fraction of their income on household food than men. Furthermore, the paired difference in the percentage of joint livestock income spent on food was higher than men. The study recommends that programmes target women’s economic empowerment to bridge the gender livestock assets gap to help improve the wellbeing of households.

Abstract

Agricultural practices performed by the potential farmers largely impact the development of any economy. Agriculture is an important sector of the Indian economy as it contributes about 17% to the total GDP and provides employment to over 60% of the population. If we want the industrial sector to grow in tremendous scale, the agriculture growth needs to be boosted. The government has been launching various schemes and credit facilities for the farmers so the agricultural productivity may be increased. This paper will attempt to discuss the various issues and challenges which are impacting the agricultural growth. Agriculture has been providing support for human survival and supporting the sustainability objectives. It not only ensure food security for the present population but also ensure the generation of employment opportunities. During the last 6 years ending 2017-18, the Food Processing Industries sector has been growing at an Average Annual Growth Rate (AAGR) of around 5.06 per cent. The sector constituted as much as 8.83 per cent and 10.66 per cent of GVA in Manufacturing and Agriculture sector respectively in 2017-18 at 2011-12 prices. It has been apparent that there has been a large imbalance in demand and supply of the food supply due to increasing population, a change in people’s living standards, economic growth and changing climatic conditions. In spite of the technological advancement, the technology is still not reached the rural farmers and hence there is a need to overcome the huddles which come across the agricultural productivity i.e heavy shortages of water and cultivated land, low productivity, inefficient irrigation or agricultural planning and management. This paper will discuss how the uneven distribution can be channelized and various steps could be taken as a remedial measure for solving the issue which in turn increases productivity to support the livelihood of the rural population. The aim of development in agriculture should also go a long way in supporting the program of generating jobs for the unemployed and bringing high standard of living, economic prosperity and agricultural sustainability.
