Abstract

Association of small intestine measurements with body weight in broilersABSTRACT. The main objective of the present study was to investigate the association of small intestine measurements with body weight in broilers. Sixty five weeks old unsex broiler chicks (CP 707) were used. All birds were leg-banded and alloted to 60 cage units and than were fasted for 10 hours but water given. All birds were weighed individually and then sacrificed by neck vein bleeding. Small intestine was dissected individually to determine length and wide. All data were subjected to statistical analysis: correlation and simple linear regression, analysis of variance and t-test. The length of small intestine, duodenum, and jejunum/ileum were each strongly correlated with body weight: r = 0,88; P 0,01; r = 0,71; P 0,01; and r = 0,80, P 0,01 respectively. The wide of duodenum and jejunum/ileum were each closely correlated with body weight: r = 0,90; P 0,01; and r = 0,86; P 0,01 respectively. Results of study indicated that there were strong association between small intestine measurements and body weight in broilers.

Abstract

Feed formulation influence of forage (Caliandra calothyrsus, Gliricidia sepium and Penisetum sp.) on distribution protein in sheep digestive tractABSTRACT. It was assumed that feed formulation given to animals has an effect on digested nutrient of the animals. The purpose of this experiment is to investigate nutrient contribution mainly protein in digestive tracts of sheep by forage formulation treatment (Caliandra calothyrsus, Gliricidia sepium and Penisetum sp.). Thirty (30) sheep tails with the average body weight 15,42 kg (SD 2,68) were fed forage with the following formulation: A. Fresh Penisetum sp. (FP) and fresh Caliandra calothyrsus (FC) (7 : 3 or 70 % + 30 %), B. Fresh Penisetum sp. (FP) and fresh Gliricidia sepium (FG) (7 : 3 or 70 % + 30 %), C. Fresh Penisetum sp. (FP), fresh Caliandra calothyrsus (FC) and fresh Gliricidia sepium (FG). The experiment was conducted for 90 days and water was provided ad libitum. Parameter recorded in this experiment were distribution of protein in sheep digestive tract, covers by protein rate in rumen, omasum, abomasum, small intestine, caecum, large intestine and rectal. Data recorded were processed by covariant analysis with body weight of sheep at the early experiment treatment as a covariant. Continuation test with Tukey test. The results of this research indicated that treatment had no significant effect on protein distribution of digestive tract. It was shown by protein content in digestive tract had no significantly difference among treatments ( P 0,05), except for rectum part.

Abstract

The effect of cabe cabe leaf (Lepidagathis javanica) in feed on broiler performanceABSTRACT. This study was conducted to determine the effect of using cabecabe leaf (Lepidagathis javanica) into the ration on broiler performance. Design of this experiment was assigned to Completely Randomized Design (CRD) in 4 treatments and 5 replications. Each replication contained 5 chickens. The treatments were R0 = basal ration (as control), R1 = 97.5% of basal ration + 2.5% of cabe cabe leaf, R2 = 95.0% of basal ration + 5.0% of cabe cabe leaf and R3 = 92.5% of basal ration + 7.5% of cabe cabe leaf. Basal ration composed by corn, rice bran, soybean meal, coconut meal, fish meal, coconut oil, mineral mix and premix. Parameter measured was feed consumption, daily weight gain and feed conversion ratio. To determine the effect of treatment on the parameter was analyzed by analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the significant effect of treatment on the parameter was analyzed by Duncans Multiple Range Test (DMRT). Result of this study showed that using cabe cabe leaf into the ration significantly (P0.05) decreased feed consumption. Daily weight gain and feed conversion ratio. Duncans Multiple Range Test showed that feed consumption and daily weight gain were significant (P0.05) different between control and all level of cabe cabe leaf, however, feed conversion ratio was significant (P0.05) different only between control and 7.5% of cabe cabe leaf in the ration. It is concluded that using 2.5% of cabe cabe leaf into the ration reduced feed consumption and daily weight gain but not influenced feed conversion ratio up to 5% of using cabe cabe leaf into the ration.

Abstract

Evaluation of antibody titre in yolk from immunized chickens with excretory/secretory antigen of L3 stage of Ascaridia galliABSTRACT. The purpose of the present study was to trigger humoral immunity of chickens egg yolk exposed to excretory/secretory released in vitro by L3 stage of Ascaridia galli. Amount of 6 head chickens were divided into two groups. First group, the chickens were not immunized. Second group, the chickens were immunized with excretory/ secretory. Active immunizations with excretory/ secretory antigen were applied intra muscularly of chickens with an initial dose of 80 g. The immunizations were repeated three times with dose of each 60 g with an interval of one week. The first immunizations were excretory/secretory antigen mixed with Fruend Adjuvant Complete and subsequently mixed with Freund Adjuvant Incomplete. Antibody response in yolk was detected at weekly intervals by enzyme linked immunosorbant assay (ELISA). The result showed that antibody in yolk was begun detect with ELISA increased at two weeks after immunization, This study has shown that the excretory/secretory released in vitro by L3 stage A. galli is capable of stimulating humoral immunity by mean of producing IgY in yolk.
