Abstract

The aim of this paper is to investigate the problematic and dynamic of ‘religious truth’, put into the context of religious freedom in today’s Indonesia. Generally speaking, the dominant discourse of religious truth in Indonesia is heavily determined by epistemological knowledge and understanding. In everyday language, through which this knowledge is produced and distributed, some epistemological categories, such as ‘deviant-believer’, ‘true- false’, and even ‘blasphemy’- are commonly applied. Here, in the problem lies these categorizations might open up possibility for the xation of ‘truth’, which in turn, inclines to subordinate what generically refer to as ‘the other’Seeking    an    alternative,    this    paper    attemptsto develop more favorable and inclusive religious understanding, which indebted to the mode of existential religious understanding including linguistic model of translation. Employing Ricouerian’s hermeneutics, this mode of existential understanding offers valuable critique to the monopoly and orthodoxy of religious truth. Moving further, it promotes the others as an interpretative horizon and a ‘circling way’, through which we enrich our religious understanding, as well as self-understanding.

Abstract

The citizen journalism has been inuenced not only by organization culture of media and news criteria, but also the position of citizens. This entire time citizens are merely a consumers and their position is passive to information produced by traditional media. With the emergence of citizen journalism, now the citizens not only become news consumers but also act as news producers and consumers at the same time (produsage). The commodication of citizen journalism is a phenomenon of counter commidication done by the companies of traditional media. This shown that there are symptoms of attracting each other in the room (market) of citizen journalism that the citizens do not always react passively to the exposure of media and become a commodity by traditional media companies or the advertiser, but they also commodify anything as whatever they want to reach. Thus, this research is a rebutting the denition of citizen journalism popularized by Curt Chandler and Jesse Hicks from Penn State University who said that citizen journalism is citizens activities in publishing a content because of their interest to a case without economic motive or personal gain.

Abstract

This writing is a study on the form of power relations in Sukur Bumi as a cultural practice. Sukur Bumi is a sacred ritual activity conducted by the people in Rancakalong as a gratitude of their harvest. Power is not only meant as authority and hegemony, but also as symbolic power. The power has its power to construct knowledge and truth. The power relation is in three level, that is, between the society and Sukur Bumi, the government and the society, and between the society, Sukur Bumi, and the government. In the end, Sukur Bumi has its own power. Its meaning and symbols has the power to control the society and the government. Without Sukur Bumi, both the government and the society do not have their sphere to construct the power.
