Abstract

This study analyzes contemporary natural events through the theological perspective of the Book of Joel 1-2, particularly the concept of the "Day of the Lord," which encompasses judgment, salvation, and the restoration of the people. Using the grammatical-historical exegesis method and contextual-theological hermeneutics, this study identifies a theological pattern of crisis-repentance-restoration in Joel's locust plague narrative and applies it to the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The study finds that God delivers warnings in two ways: sending His servants and using natural disasters as instruments of judgment. The research findings indicate a structural parallel between the locust plague (Joel 1:4-12) and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic: both result in ecological-economic crises, disruptions of religious rituals, and social disintegration. The uniqueness of this study lies in its theological interpretation that connects ancient texts with contemporary global crises, showing the relevance of Joel's prophetic message in the modern era. COVID-19, Like a locust plague, it serves as a warning for humans to recognize their dependence on God, to care for His creation, and to renew their spiritual relationship.

Abstract

Traditional pastoral counseling often relies on intuition or spiritual experience without a systematic methodological foundation, making it difficult to measure intervention effectiveness and limiting accountability in service. This study aims to explore the importance of scientific thinking in pastoral counseling practice as a means of epistemological integration between psychology and spirituality, to produce reflective and responsible practice. The method employed includes a literature review on counseling theories, scientific epistemology, and pastoral practice, as well as conceptual analysis on the application of scientific methodology in assessment and counseling interventions. The results indicate that applying scientific thinking enables pastoral counselors to evaluate intervention effectiveness objectively, reduce subjective bias, and strengthen professional service. Integrating scientific approaches with spiritual values also allows counselors to facilitate clients’ holistic growth, uniting psychological, social, and spiritual aspects. Thus, an ideal pastoral counselor functions as both a spiritual guide and a reflective scholar grounded in validated data, theory, and experience.

Abstract

Church music education in Indonesia generally still relies on conventional approaches with minimal use of digital technology, making it less relevant for younger generations. At the same time, traditional instruments such as Sasando from East Nusa Tenggara are rarely integrated into church music curricula, despite their significant potential as a contextually meaningful liturgical medium. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the Sasando Battle Arena educational game as a digital-based medium for church music learning among students of the Church Music Study Program at STT Kristus Alfa Omega Semarang. A mixed methods approach was employed: quantitative through testing Sasando Battle Arena on 24 students measuring scores, accuracy, and response time; and qualitative through theological-aesthetic analysis using interviews and observation. Results showed an average score of 86.42 and an accuracy rate of 74.29%, with female students achieving higher accuracy (77.78%). These findings imply that gamification based on traditional instruments has strong potential as a participatory, contextual, and relevant model for church music education in theological learning contexts.

Abstract

The primary purpose of this study is to explain and reflect the doctrine of the Trinity in the daily worship of believers. As divinely revealed in Scripture and understood in historical Orthodox Christianity, the doctrine of the Trinity should influence and shape the daily worship of believers to God. The implications of this doctrine for daily worship can be seen in at least three main areas. First, the object of our worship is the Triune God Himself, or God understood as three persons rather than just one. Second, when believers give thanks to God, they need to show affection for each person of the Trinity. Third, this doctrine evokes awe and humility in the hearts of believers as they reflect on it in worship.

Abstract

This research aims to design church planting guidelines that are contextual to Sumba culture based on Pentecostal doctrine in Bethel Tabernacle Church (GBT) East Sumba Region. This research is useful as a practical reference for church planters in integrating local cultural values and the teachings of Pentecostal theology. The method used is a combination with the Sequential Exploratory model, which begins with the collection and analysis of qualitative data, followed by quantitative data. The type of research is level 1 research and development, focused on product design development. The results of the study resulted in the design of church planting guidelines in four main subjects: cultural approaches, Pentecostal doctrine, church planting strategies, and implementation of Sumba culture. The novelty of this research lies in the contextualization of Sumba culture and Pentecostal theology in the form of written guidelines that are applicable to church planting ministries

Abstract

This article analyzes St. Maximus the Confessor’s understanding of sin as a theological-anthropological reality and the divine response to it. Using qualitative thematic analysis of primary and secondary Patristic sources, this study identifies four main themes. First, the essence of sin as a deviation of love’s movement (philautia) from a theocentric to a distorted self-centered orientation. Second, the origin of sin in the misuse of gnomic will, which fails to align with the divine logos. Third, the consequences of sin as existential fragmentation, disintegration of human relations with God and others, and bondage to death. Fourth, God’s response through a therapeutic and transformative pedagogy of love. These findings reveal that for Maximus, sin is a relational crisis answered by God through divine education toward restoration and reunification with Him. This article enriches Patristic moral theology by affirming the relational, therapeutic, and pedagogical character of sin and salvation

Abstract

The cosmos as a theophany and a liturgical space is one of the central themes in the theology of St. Maximus the Confessor. Amid various modern approaches that tend to view the universe as a neutral reality detached from theological meaning, Maximus offers a cosmological vision centered on Christ as the divine Logos. This study aims to analyze St. Maximus’ understanding of the cosmos as theophany and liturgical space through the concept of Logos-logoi, the role of humanity as cosmic priests, and the ultimate purpose of creation in telos and theosis. The method employed is a literature review using a descriptive-analytical approach to various sources discussing Maximus’s cosmology. The results of the study indicate that the cosmos is not understood as a neutral or static reality, but rather as a sacred space that reveals the presence of God and moves toward union with the Logos through the Incarnation of Christ. Within this framework, all of creation participates in a cosmic liturgy that directs everything toward God. This study affirms Maximus’s cosmology presents a synthesis of creation theology, Christology, anthropology, and cosmic liturgy Christ centered theological vision.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the professionalism of Christian Religious Education teachers in addressing pedagogical challenges in the era of digital learning, as well as strategies to strengthen it in fostering students’ character and spirituality. The method used is descriptive qualitative research through a literature review, examining various relevant scientific sources. The results of the literature review indicate that digital transformation promotes more interactive, collaborative, and flexible learning; however, it also presents challenges in the form of limited digital literacy among teachers, a decline in the depth of pedagogical relationships, and the risk of a reduction in spiritual values in online learning. This study offers a model of holistic Christian Religious Education teacher professionalism that integrates theological, pedagogical, digital, and spiritual dimensions as a conceptual framework to strengthen reflective learning, Christian character formation, and contextual faith development in the digital age. In conclusion, the judicious and contextual integration of technology can support the creation of transformative, relevant, and holistic Christian Religious Education.
