Abstract

Basically, children need education, guidance, and development through a directed learning process. In the millennial era that continues to grow rapidly, various activities can now be done easily, quickly, and instantly. Today's generation is greatly influenced by the rapid development of technology in the millennial era. Technological improvements have provided valuable opportunities for children to enrich their learning experiences, especially through the utilization of audio-visual catechesis approaches that can enrich their social-emotional aspects. The main goal of this approach is to understand and apply the idea of improving the social aspect of the child through audio-visual catechesis. It is important that children are given the opportunity to fully grow and develop, so that they can smoothly interact in a variety of social situations, ultimately helping them to become overall healthy individuals in church and community life. In order to understand the social psyche more deeply, it is recommended to Catholic Pastoral Officers, Catechists, and Teachers to provide audio-visual catechesis as an effective socialization tool. This activity is an important part of pastoral workers' efforts to support the growth of children today, with the aim of providing them with essential skills and positively engaging social interactions in their lives.

Abstract

This article aims to provide an in-depth review of the implementation of the inquiry method in Catholic Religious Education. The study applies a systematic literature review approach by analyzing various relevant sources, including books, indexed journal articles, and official documents of the Catholic Church published within the last five years. The inquiry method is considered an effective approach to fostering critical thinking, creativity, and active participation of learners in understanding the values of the Catholic faith. Data analysis was conducted through reduction, classification, and synthesis to explore the relevance of inquiry implementation in the context of religious education. The findings indicate that the inquiry method encourages students not only to receive the faith teachings passively but also to reflect on their life experiences in the light of the Gospel. This strategy strengthens faith identity, builds reflective thinking skills, and promotes a dialogical attitude in facing contemporary challenges. The article concludes that the inquiry method can serve as an effective pedagogical alternative in Catholic Religious Education, although its application requires adaptation to theological contexts, spirituality, and Catholic school curricula. Thus, this review is expected to contribute to both theoretical development and practical innovation in the teaching of religion in contemporary contexts.

Abstract

This research was motivated by concern about the low awareness of some alumni of STP Dian Mandala Gunungsitoli in living Missio Canonica, which is part of their responsibility of ministry. The main focus of this research is to analyze the level of alumni involvement in church life, particularly in St. Maria Ratu Surga Togizita Parish, with the aim of obtaining a clear picture of their role in liturgical, catechetical, and pastoral activities. The approach used was qualitative with a case study method that allowed the researcher to explore the experiences and dynamics of alumni ministry among the congregation. Data were collected through direct observation in the parish, in-depth interviews with ten informants consisting of the parish priest, pastoral council administrators, and active members of the congregation, and also through documentation of relevant activities. The results of the study show a striking difference in alumni involvement; those who live in the parish center tend to be more active participants in various church activities, while alumni who domiciled in the station showed lower participation. Factors influencing these differences include busy work, limited follow-up development after the study period, and minimal communication with the parish. These findings provide important evaluations for STP to focus more on long-term alumni development, while also providing input for local churches to design more effective mentoring strategies. Furthermore, this study reminds alumni to reflect on their calling to ministry and live it out in their daily lives.

Abstract

Hombo Batu, or fahombo, is a Nias tradition involving jumping over tall rocks, now widely recognized as a cultural icon, particularly in Bawomataluo Village, South Nias. This research was conducted to examine the symbolic, historical, and contemporary relevance of this cultural practice in the lives of local communities. The method used was a descriptive qualitative approach combining literature review, participant observation, and the study of various relevant academic documents. The research findings indicate that Hombo Batu is not merely a test of physical strength or courage, but also a means of affirming cultural identity, strengthening social solidarity, and educating the younger generation about values and character. The meaning has shifted over time, from its original function as a traditional military exercise to prepare young people to defend their villages, to its development as a cultural attraction and tourist attraction with economic value. These changes do not necessarily eliminate the traditional meaning, as Hombo Batu remains viewed as a symbol of dignity, honor, and cultural heritage that must be preserved. Therefore, this study emphasizes the importance of local community-based preservation, the implementation of adaptive conservation strategies so that traditions remain relevant to the modern context, and the integration of Hombo Batu into character education and sustainable tourism, so that this cultural heritage can continue to live and make a positive contribution to the Nias community and the nation at large.

Abstract

The ecological crisis gripping the world is increasingly apparent through the intensity of natural disasters, extreme climate change, and environmental degradation that threaten human survival. In response to this situation, Pope Francis, in his encyclical Laudato Si' (2015), called on all humanity to view the earth as a shared home that must be cared for with full responsibility. This article focuses on the relevance of Pope Francis' teachings in facing today's ecological challenges, emphasizing the development of ecological spirituality, the concept of integral ecology, and an awareness of social responsibility. The study was conducted through a literature review by examining encyclicals, official documents of the Catholic Church, and recent Indonesian-language books and academic articles. The results show that caring for the earth is not merely a technical act of conservation, but is a call to shift the paradigm of life to align with faith, science, and social solidarity. The Catholic Church itself plays a crucial role in building ecological awareness through education, liturgy, and interfaith dialogue. By integrating moral, spiritual, and public policy aspects, the concept of integral ecology offered by Pope Francis is seen as highly relevant to addressing the challenges of the global environmental crisis. This article emphasizes that the commitment to embracing the earth is not just an ecological obligation, but also a call of faith and humanity for the sake of the sustainability of life for current and future generations.

Abstract

The main issue that is the focus of this study is what is the essence of the liturgy in the Catholic Church and how the Ars Celebrandi liturgy is in the perspective of Pope Benedict XVI. Therefore, this study wants to explore two important things, namely how a Catholic personally and communally understands the liturgy and how it was initiated by Pope Benedict through the theme of Ars Celebrandi. This research uses library research, which is supported by reference sources, especially Church documents and studies on the theme of liturgy and the Eucharist. Data and information are processed by researchers by sorting and examining the main ideas and classifying them in special themes according to the research objectives. This study found that Ars Celebrandi is the art of celebrating liturgical celebrations appropriately and can help the faithful to internalize all the mysteries of the faith that are celebrated in the liturgical celebration system so that in the end all the faithful can participate in the entire celebration of faith. Therefore, all liturgical leaders need to celebrate the liturgy according to the rules of the liturgy itself without having to improvise and be creative according to personal interpretation. Ars Celebrandi is closely related to the meaning of the mystery of faith, namely the encounter with God present in the liturgical celebration. Ars Celebrandi does not stop at the issue of how the liturgical celebration becomes a stunning display. However, Ars Celebrandi is more about the appreciation of the mystery of faith in oneness with God that is present in the liturgical celebration. This study is expected to add to the scientific treasures in the field of Catholic theology, especially those related to the meaning and significance of beauty in the liturgy of the Eucharist.

Abstract

This article aims to deeply reflect on the meaning of suffering and the cross in the light of Christian faith, as elaborated in the Encyclical Salvifici Doloris by Pope John Paul II. Suffering is an inevitable part of every human life. It should not be viewed merely as a negative experience or a painful burden, but also as a path that can lead one to a deeper understanding of faith and a closer relationship with God. The method used is the library research method, by collecting and analyzing various written sources such as books, scholarly journals, Church documents, and credible references from the internet. This approach aims to provide a strong theoretical foundation while also exploring various thoughts and recent findings relevant to the theme of this thesis. The findings of this study show that human suffering, when united with the suffering of Christ on the cross, has redemptive value and becomes a means of participating in God's work of salvation. This research concludes that, in the light of Christian faith, suffering holds a deeper meaning than simply being a painful experience. Suffering is not merely something to be endured, but also a way to participate in God’s salvific work and a means to lead humanity into a more intimate communion with Him.

Abstract

This study is based on the conviction that love for one’s homeland is an integral part of Christian faith, which must be lived out concretely in national and social life. The Catholic Church in Indonesia affirms that patriotism is not merely a moral or political attitude, but an expression of faith manifested through prayer, symbols, and songs within the celebration of the Eucharist. The purpose of this study is to explore how the value of love for the homeland is embodied and expressed liturgically as a contextual form of Catholic faith. This research employed a library research method by examining official Church documents as well as relevant theological and pastoral literature. The analysis was carried out through a descriptive-theological approach that integrates conceptual and contextual perspectives. The findings reveal that love for the homeland in the Eucharistic celebration is manifested through thanksgiving prayers for the nation, the inculturation of national symbols, and the use of patriotic hymns as expressions of faith and gratitude. The Eucharist serves as a sacred meeting point between faith and nationhood, forming believers to be faithful Catholics and true citizens. The study implies that liturgical inculturation plays a vital role as a medium of faith formation and national character building within the Indonesian Catholic Church.

Abstract

Lay Christian believers are members of the Church who have been united through the sacrament of baptism and are called to take an active part in the life of the Church. Their role is reflected in their participation in Christ's threefold mission: as prophets who proclaim the faith, as priests who participate in the sanctification effort, and as kings who serve others with a spirit of loving service. This thesis specifically examines the rights and obligations of lay people as regulated in the Code of Canon Law, particularly canons 225–226, which emphasize their responsibility in realizing the Church's mission in the world. These rights and obligations form the basis for lay people to play a role in building the mystical body of Christ, while also expanding the proclamation of the Gospel Good News so that more people can experience the grace of salvation. This research uses a literature review method by referring to various theoretical sources, including Church documents, books, scientific journals, and other relevant literature, to gain a comprehensive understanding of the position, role, and contribution of lay people in the dynamics of contemporary Church life.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the impact of social media use on the moral degradation of Catholic Youth (OMK). Data validity testing is carried out by triangulation, namely data source triangulation and technique triangulation. The results of this study indicate that the use of social media can have a negative impact on the morality of OMK, such as the spread of hate speech, cyber bullying, and the spread of inappropriate content. However, this study also shows that social media can be used as a means to strengthen the faith and morality of OMK if used wisely and responsibly. This study is expected to contribute to the understanding of the impact of social medicine on the moral degradation of OMK in the Parish of Saints Peter and Paul Idanögawo, and also provide recommendations for the use of social media that can provide something new that is positive for OMK.
