Abstract

This article discusses the development of teaching materials for Catholic Religious Education (CRE) at Catholic Higher Education Institutions (CHEIs) based on a deep learning approach. This study employs a qualitative literature review method to analyze relevant sources concerning the development of CRE teaching materials and the application of deep learning in religious education. The main findings suggest that deep learning can enrich the religious learning experience by emphasizing deep understanding, critical reflection, and the integration of Christian values in students' lives. The proposed model for developing teaching materials based on deep learning combines personalized learning, spiritual reflection, and the use of advanced technology. Despite challenges such as limited technological infrastructure and resistance to change, the study recommends strengthening technological infrastructure, providing faculty training, and implementing project-based learning methods. This study is expected to contribute to the development of more holistic and relevant Catholic religious education in CHEIs.

Abstract

The development of digital technology brings great opportunities as well as challenges for the development of the faith of Catholics. This article discusses the role of catechists in fostering the spirituality of the people in the digital era using the literature review method. The results show that catechists are required to not only convey the Church's teaching, but also to be present as spiritual companions through digital media such as social media, faith apps, podcasts, and virtual prayer communities. The role of catechists is evolving into creative and contextual content creators, virtual community facilitators, and digital evangelists. However, challenges arise in the form of digital distractions, the spread of misinformation, and reduced face-to-face relationships in the life of faith. With mastery of digital literacy, spirituality, and faith pedagogy, catechists are able to provide relevant and transformative services. This article confirms that catechism in the digital age plays a central role in strengthening the faith of the people and building a deep spiritual community even in a virtual space.

Abstract

Educational quality serves as a central indicator of the effectiveness of instructional systems in achieving educational objectives. However, prevailing linear and less adaptive instructional practices reveal weaknesses in feedback-based regulatory mechanisms within educational systems. This article aims to reconstruct Norbert Wiener’s cybernetic theory as a systemic paradigm for improving educational quality within the framework of educational psychology. The study employs a qualitative approach using a library research design through content analysis and conceptual synthesis of relevant primary and secondary sources. The findings indicate that the principles of control and communication in cybernetic theory can be integrated with self-regulation and formative assessment concepts to develop an adaptive learning system based on dual-loop regulation. This study proposes the Cybernetic Feedback-Based Educational Quality Improvement Model (MPM–SUS), consisting of five components: input, interactive regulatory process, output, dual feedback mechanisms, and strategic adaptation. The novelty lies in operationalizing classical cybernetic theory into a modern educational psychology framework by integrating micro (classroom), meso (school), and macro (policy) regulatory levels. Educational quality is thus conceptualized as the outcome of a structured, data-driven, and continuous control cycle.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the theological and spiritual meaning of Jesus’ declaration in John 8:12, “I am the light of the world; whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness.” The focus of this research is to understand the meaning of “following Christ” as a process of transformation from the darkness of sin to the light of salvation. Using a theological-biblical and hermeneutical approach of faith, this study interprets the Scripture contextually by considering its historical, theological, and existential meanings for the life of believers today. The results show that following Christ is not merely a religious act or verbal confession of faith, but a full participation in His life, love, and mission. The light of Christ is interpreted as a symbol of divine revelation that liberates humanity from sin and leads to a new life in love and truth. The theological reflection emphasizes that the light of Christ is personal, universal, and communal moving the Church and believers to be witnesses of love and bearers of light amid a world afflicted by moral and spiritual crises. This study underscores that following Christ means living an active faith and becoming a visible reflection of Christ’s light in daily life.

Abstract

This research explores the spiritual dynamics of diocesan priests in facing the phase of the dark night of the soul, a condition of spiritual emptiness that often triggers a vocational crisis. The objective of the study is to analyze how obedience to the Bishop and the local Church serves as an instrument of mystical purification and a pillar of vocational stability. Utilizing a qualitative method through a literature review and phenomenological analysis, this study examines texts of mystical theology, canon law, and contemporary literature. The research findings indicate that obedience during times of darkness is not merely a matter of juridical compliance, but rather an act of pure faith (naked faith) that purifies the soul from egoistic attachments. Obedience functions as a theological anchor that enables the priest to remain faithful to objective ministry despite the loss of subjective consolation. The implications of this research emphasize the importance of adequate spiritual direction and the strengthening of presbyteral fraternity within ongoing formation to maintain the priest's spiritual resilience. Ultimately, obedience tested in the dark night transforms the priest into a more humble and authentic alter Christus.

Abstract

This paper re-examines Jesus' words, "The truth will set you free" (John 8:32), highlighting the relationship between truth and freedom, which is often reduced to spiritual or moral readings. The research gap addressed is the lack of studies that integrate John's lexical-textual analysis with the crisis of truth and identity experienced by Asian communities, particularly Indonesia. Using a hermeneutic-literary method, this study examines the narrative structure of the pericope, the lexical meaning of key Greek terms (aletheia, eleutheroo, doulos), and the historical context of John's community, then connects these with Asian contextual theology. The results demonstrate that truth in John's Gospel is both personal and relational, rooted in Christ's revelation that renews human identity. Freedom is understood not as moral autonomy, but as existential transformation through a relationship with the Word that liberates from the power of sin and structures of injustice. The unique contribution of this study lies in its integrative approach that brings together Johannine exegesis with the Asian social context, thus offering a relevant theological framework for the Church in responding to relativism, manipulation of truth, and the ethical challenges of contemporary society.

Abstract

The encyclical Sollicitudo Rei Socialis highlights the Church's concern about social injustice, particularly the condition of the poor who do not have fair access to resources intended for all. As a development of Populorum Progressio, this document emphasizes the importance of integral development centered on human dignity through the priority of solidarity. This article aims to reactualize the teaching of justice in Sollicitudo Rei Socialis and examine its relevance in the context of Maluku society which still faces social inequality, issues of natural resource management, gender inequality, and post-conflict impacts. The analysis is carried out by combining descriptive methods to explain the concept of justice in the encyclical and reflective-analytical methods to interpret and draw its contextual implications for social reality in Maluku. The results of the study indicate that solidarity is not only an individual moral virtue, but also a transformative principle that encompasses structural and cultural dimensions in communal life. In the Maluku context, solidarity plays a crucial role in encouraging active community participation in addressing injustice and restoring social harmony and interfaith tolerance. Therefore, this article emphasizes that solidarity is a relevant and contextual ethical foundation for realizing social justice and shared prosperity.
