Abstract

ABSTRACT This research deals with Theme and Rheme in Editorials texts of The Jakarta Post newspaper. The aims are to find out the optional element dominates the structure of theme in the editorials of The Jakarta Post newspaper and to describe where the optional dominant element occurs. The research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. The data were collected from three different editions of The Jakarta Post editorials which is publish on January 2014. The findings indicate that conjunction was an element dominantly used in textual theme because there were so many compound clauses and there were two or more clauses in coordination relation or dependency on another. In interpersonal theme, adjunct was an element dominantly used that is means that a prepositional phrase has its own internal structure containing complement within it and preposition is put at first position of a clause which is called Theme. Conjunction and adjunct were dominantly used when the editors tells their argumentation, comment and their assessment of the news, because of the using of colloquialism or spoken language in editorials of the Jakarta Post newspaper.     Keyword        : Theme, Rheme, Editorial

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study deals with code-mixing used by presenters on VISI FM. The objectives of this study are to : (1) find out the forms ofcode-mixing, that are used by VISI FM’s presenters. (2) find out the form of code- mixing that is dominantly used by VISI FM’s presenter. This research applied descriptive quantitative method.The object of this study is presenter of VISI FM namely Deris and Lia. The tape recorder is used for collecting the data where the utterence of presenters were recorded while presenting that program.After collecting the data, the writer found that forms of code mixing occured in the presenters’s utterances are code mixing in forms words, phrases, and sentences. Code mixing in form of word is dominantly used by male presenters namely Deris, where the percentage of the occurrence of code mixing in his utterances are 255 code mixing, where there are 29 code mixing in form of sentences, 92 code mixing in form of phrases, and 133 code mixing in form of words and code mixing in form of sentence is dominantly used by  female presenter namely Lia where the percentage of the occurrence of code mixing in her utterances are 184 code mixing occured where there are 82 code mixing in form of sentences, 44 code mixing in form of phrases, and 58 code mixing in form of words.     Keyword        : Code Mixing

Abstract

ABSTRACT This study deals with speech function in ‘Yeah Mahasiswa’ tweets. The research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative method. The data were collected from the twitter account of Yeah Mahasiswa which chosen purposively. The findings of the research show that there are 105 clauses which consist of 4 speech functions, Statement (84), Question (11), Command (6), andOffer (4). The most dominant type of speech function used by Yeah Mahasiswa wasstatement because it tended to give information in its interaction through its tweets. The occurrence of the dominant speech function due to the context of situation, covering field, tenor and mode.   Keyword: Speech Function, Twitter

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research focused on illocutionary act used in Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono tweet in twitter. The research was conducted by using qualitative research method. The data were collected from the twitter account of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. The findings of the thesis shows that there are 191 occurrences of illocutionary act which classified into five types of illocutionary act. They were declarative (5), representative (112),  expressive (36), directive (32), and commissive (6). The most dominant type of illocutionary act that used in Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono Tweet in Twitter was representative with (58,63%). Representatives became the most dominant types of illocutionary act because most of Susilo tweets were informs, reports, describes, and claims. The implication is Susilo needs to inform the people about his work so that they know what ever he did and as he said the purpose of making twitter account is to hear people aspiration so he informs his people and people will support him. Abstract

ABSTRACT This thesis deals with logical function used in “Simate-mate” (The Mourning Tradition of Karonese’s Culture). The objectives of the study are to find out the types of logical function, describe the social value, and find out the implication of this mourning tradition of Karonese. The research is conducted by a qualitative descriptive approach, which makes a description of the situation or event/occurrence. The data of this study is about the utterances that used in this mourning tradition. The research findings indicate that they were five types of logical function which obtained from the analysis of each data. They were elaboration 10 (8,13%), extension 18 (14,63%), enhancement 59 (47,96%), locution 30 (24,39%), and idea 6 (6,50%). The content of social values in the mourning tradition of karonese’s culture has function to motivate, advice, amuse, and strengthen the condolences family. They had some aspects of communication and have context of implication namely, emotional expression, aesthetical, and educational function that can be as the reflection for the people about the importance of this tradition for the readers especially young generation. Abstract

ABSTRACT The objectives of this research were to discover the types of violation maxims, the most dominant violation maxim, and to explain the causes of the most dominant violation maxim in Awas Ada Sule situation comedy. The source of data was situation comedy and taken from internet. The data were the scripts in Awas Ada Sule situation comedy. There were 50 violation maxims in this research. The descriptive qualitative design was used to analyze the data. The results of the analysis showed that all types of maxim were violated; 33 utterances violation maxim of quantity (66%), 7 utterances violation maxim of quality (14%), 7 utterances violation maxim of relation (14%), and 3 utterances violation maxim of manner (6%).  The most dominant type of violation maxims was the violation maxim of quantity because the main characters said something without giving enough information or even providing it too much by adding something unimportant to say which was aimed at creating humor, entertaining.   Key words: pragmatic, violation maxims, sitcom.

Abstract

ABSTRACT   This study deals with politeness strategies used by toba batak sellers in Samosir. The objectives of this study were (1) to describe the types of  politeness strategies were used by Toba Batak sellers in Samosir, (2) to investigate the type of politeness strategy was mostly used describe the reasons, (3) to describethe roles of politeness to Toba Batak society, and (4) to describe the implication of politeness strategies. The data of this study were the language of conversation between Toba Batak sellers and their buyers. This study applied descriptive quantitative method. The findings show that there are four types of Politeness Strategies used by Toba Batak Sellers in Samosir, namely: Bald on record4 utterances (2.53%), Off record17 utterances (10.75%), Positivepoliteness 129 utterances (81.64%) and Negativepoliteness 8 utterances (5.06%). Positivepoliteness is the most dominant type of Politeness Strategies used by Toba Batak sellers in Samosir. Keyword        :Politeness Strategies, Toba Batak Sellers, Samosir.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research aims to get information of sociolinguistics about code mixing in Break Out Music Program on NET.TV by the presenters. The objectives of the study are to find types of code mixing, and the most dominant type. The research on this thesis was carried out on descriptive qualitative design. The source of data was the whole script of the utterances by the two presenters. The data were the scenes that have code mixing in its dialogue. The data were analyzed based on Muysken theory, there are 104 code mixing used by the two presenters which consists of three types of code mixing which is alternation (62) with total percentage 59,7 %, insertation (34) percentage 32,7 %, and congruent lexicalization (8) 7,7 %. The most dominant type of code mixing used by two presenters of Break Out Music Program on NET.TV is alternation with percentage 59,7 %.   Key words: Code mixing, Break Out Music Program NET. TV

Abstract

ABSTRACT The study deals with the types of illocutionary act usedin Karate Kid’s Movie. The objectives of the study were to discover the dominant illocutionary act and to implicate for the use dominant illocutionary act in movie. The data were the transcript of Dre Parker’s utterances which were downloaded from internet.This research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative design. The findings showed that there were 220 utterances which contained 4 types of illocutionary act. Dre Parker tended to use the representative (54, 55%), directive (34, 50%), expressive (8, 18%),and commissive (2, 72%). The most dominant type of illocutionary act was representativebecause he mainly used the statement of arguing, asserting, informing and describing.
