Abstract

The increasing demand and consumption of fish food from year to year means that demand for raw materials also increases. Vegetable raw materials can be an alternative because they have a relatively longer shelf life, are easy to find and are relatively cheap. Vegetable raw materials are raw materials that come from plants such as grains and nuts. Vegetable raw materials that exist in nature are usually reprocessed into feed with better nutritional content, so it is necessary to maintain the feed ingredients so that their content remains long-lasting. The raw materials used are soybeans, corn, sword beans, peanuts, kapok seeds and jackfruit seeds. Vegetable raw materials require physical processing to change texture, taste and other properties. Physical processing such as grinding, mixing, drying, soaking, steaming aims to increase nutrient availability, reduce anti-nutrients, extend the shelf life of vegetable raw materials, and improve the texture and taste of feed. Physical processing also plays a role in increasing the digestibility of vegetable ingredients, reducing the risk of microbial contamination, and extending the shelf life of fish feed. By optimizing physical processing techniques, plant feed can be produced that is efficient, high quality, and supports healthy growth and sustainable productivity of farmed fish. The use of vegetable raw materials for fish is starting to be widely used because it has good protein, for example the use of peanuts in fish feed which produces the best growth rate values, namely 0.7% and feed efficiency of 16.76%.

Abstract

The Bagek Kembar Mangrove Ecotourism Area is a rehabilitated mangrove forest area carried out by the government and the community of Cendi Manik Village, Sekotong District. Mangrove forests play a crucial role in human life and the biota associated with them. One of the biota associated with mangrove forests is gastropods. Gastropods are biota that belong to the phylum Mollusca. These biotas can grow and develop well in mangrove forests because mangrove forests provide sufficient food to support the life of these gastropods. This research aims to discover the types and activity of gastropods associated with mangrove forests in the Mangrove Ecotourism Area, Cendi Manik Village, Sekotong District, West Lombok. At the research location, 7 types of gastropod species were associated with mangrove forests. These types of gastropods were P. scutata, T. sulcata, F. javanica, F. ater, T. granifera, S. minata and L. angulifera. All species found are only associated with the Rhizophora and Avicenia Genus. Meanwhile, the gastropod activity found in the Bagek Kembar mangrove forest area serves as a feeding area and shelter.

Abstract

Forests are vital ecosystem components that provide water, oxygen, habitat, and maintain environmental balance. Forest vegetation with a developed canopy reduces sunlight intensity reaching the ground, influencing microclimate. This study aims to identify the types and dominant models of tree architecture in the Gampong Iboih Nature Park (TWA) area, Weh Island, Sabang City. The method used was line transect at 8 stations with different elevations (5-200 masl). The results found 14 branch architecture models from 71 tree species, namely Koriba, Leeuwenberg, Schoute, Rauh, Prevost, Massart, Holttum, Tomlinson, Stone, Corner, Petit, Chamberlain, Attims, and Scarrone. The Koriba model was the most dominant with a percentage of 36.6%. This dominance indicates the forest's structural characteristics that influence its ecological functions, such as soil and water conservation

Abstract

Viral infections in commercial poultry are not always caused by a single pathogen and may involve concurrent infections by multiple viruses. Avian influenza virus (AIV) and Newcastle disease virus (NDV) are among the most important pathogens affecting poultry health, as they often induce overlapping clinical manifestations and tissue alterations, leading to high mortality rates and substantial economic losses. This study investigated the presence of these viruses in commercial layer chickens exhibiting neurological signs, including torticollis and leg paralysis, accompanied by hemorrhagic lesions in the digestive tract, using a molecular diagnostic approach. Serum and digestive tract samples were collected from affected layer chickens originating from commercial farms with reported disease outbreaks. All samples were analyzed using simplex reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (sRT-PCR). RNA extraction for AIV was performed using a commercial kit, while NDV RNA was isolated using Trizol reagent. Viral detection was carried out using specific primers targeting the nucleoprotein gene of AIV and the conserved region of NDV, producing amplicons of 552 bp and 320 bp, respectively. Amplified products were visualized by electrophoresis on 1.5% agarose gel. The results demonstrated the presence of AIV-specific amplicons in serum samples and NDV-specific amplicons in digestive tract tissues, indicating concurrent infection by both viruses in the examined layer chickens. These findings confirm that sRT-PCR is a reliable molecular tool for the confirmation and differentiation of AIV and NDV infections in poultry cases presenting similar clinical signs and pathological lesions.
