Abstract

Children, as a trust and a gift from God Almighty, possess inherent rights, dignity, and worth as complete human beings. Within the context of national law, the state is obligated to provide protection for children’s rights as stipulated in Law Number 35 of 2014 on Child Protection, which amends Law Number 23 of 2002. Such protection includes the right to life, growth and development, education, protection from violence, and the right to social welfare. Children living in orphanages constitute a vulnerable group requiring special attention, both in terms of the fulfillment of basic needs and legal protection. This community service activity was conducted at Pelangi Orphanage in Palembang with the aim of enhancing the understanding of orphanage administrators and foster children regarding the legal protection of children’s rights, as well as encouraging the creation of a child-friendly and legally oriented orphanage environment. The method employed was a participatory-educational approach through interactive legal counseling, discussions and question-and-answer sessions, as well as simple case studies tailored to the conditions of the children and the orphanage management. The results indicate an improvement in participants’ legal understanding of children’s rights and the obligations of orphanage administrators, increased awareness among foster children regarding their right to protection from violence and discrimination, and the establishment of a commitment by the administrators to create a safe, comfortable, and child-friendly environment in accordance with the principles of child protection. This activity has a positive impact in the form of increased legal awareness and capacity within the orphanage environment, which is expected to be sustainable in supporting children’s welfare and protection.

Abstract

This community service program aims to strengthen Qur'an learning and shape the character and spirituality of students at the Albasya Modern Islamic Boarding School. The activity was carried out using a participatory and collaborative approach through stages of coordination with the Islamic boarding school, identification of students' initial abilities, mentoring Qur'an learning in a classical and individual manner, character building through role models and habits, and continuous evaluation. The results of the activity showed an increase in the ability to read the Qur'an, especially in aspects of the accuracy of makhārij al-ḥurūf, application of tajwid laws, reading fluency, and students' self-confidence in reading the Qur'an. In addition, the program also had a positive impact on increasing discipline, responsibility, social awareness, and the formation of a stronger Qur'an learning culture in the Islamic boarding school environment. Good collaboration between the community service team, ustaz, and Islamic boarding school management supported the effectiveness of the implementation of the activity. Thus, mentoring in learning the Qur'an combined with character and spiritual development is an effective alternative in supporting the strengthening of Islamic education in Islamic boarding schools.

Abstract

The quality of scientific publications is greatly influenced by the quality of the editorial process, particularly the desk evaluation stage, which serves as an initial screening before articles enter the peer review process. In practice, many journal editors and reviewers still lack a uniform understanding of article assessment indicators according to international journal standards. This condition impacts the less than optimal manuscript selection process and the quality of published articles. This community service activity aims to improve the competence of editors and reviewers through a workshop entitled "Rules and Strategies for Editor and Desk Reviewer Desk Evaluation in the Article Review Process of International Journal Standards." The activity was carried out using a participatory workshop method consisting of material delivery, interactive discussions, case studies, desk evaluation simulations, and feedback sessions. The target audience of the activity was editors, reviewers, and managers of scientific journals. The results of the activity showed that participants gained a better understanding of the differences in editor and reviewer duties, indicators for assessing scientific articles, desk rejection strategies, and techniques for evaluating novelty, methodology, and the suitability of articles to the journal's scope. The discussion revealed that the limited number of manuscripts remains a challenge, especially in unaccredited journals and journals accredited by SINTA 5 and SINTA 6. Therefore, strengthening the capacity of editors and reviewers needs to be accompanied by strategies to increase the number and quality of manuscripts through expanding the author network, promoting calls for papers, and mentoring in writing scientific articles.
