Abstract

This study aims to describe the anatomical variations of leaves from five local medicinal plant species and evaluate their potential use as microscopy-based learning media rooted in local wisdom. Microscopic observations were conducted on the leaves of Piper betle, Cymbopogon citratus, Curcuma longa, Aloe vera, and Ocimum sanctum using fresh-section preparations and quantitative measurements of anatomical parameters, including epidermal thickness, mesophyll thickness, stomatal density, trichome characteristics, stomatal type, palisade–spongy ratio, xylem diameter, and vein density. The results revealed clear interspecific anatomical differences, such as variations in palisade structure, presence of secretory ducts, mucilaginous cells, and glandular trichomes that provide strong visual contrast for microscopic learning. These characteristics support the feasibility of using local plant species as accessible, contextually relevant, and effective learning media to enhance students’ understanding of plant anatomy concepts. The study concludes that local medicinal plants possess strong potential to be developed as authentic microscopy learning resources. Further research is recommended to expand the number of species examined, incorporate supporting physiological analyses, and develop ready-to-use instructional modules for educators.

Abstract

Pendidikan STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) menjadi pendekatan strategis dalam menyiapkan generasi abad ke-21.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the potential utilization of salted duck eggshell waste in the development of halal cosmetics through a literature review approach that integrates chemical, biological, and sharia-compliant financing perspectives. Globally, the increasing demand for natural-based halal cosmetics necessitates innovation in sourcing safe, high-quality, and environmentally friendly raw materials. Salted eggshells, which are commonly regarded as household or food-industry waste, have been shown to contain high levels of calcium carbonate as well as membranes rich in bioactive proteins such as collagen-like molecules and glycoproteins, making them promising candidates for skincare applications. The literature indicates that the biominerals and bioactive compounds within eggshells can enhance halal cosmetic formulations, although applied research remains limited to laboratory-scale studies. Beyond technical considerations, this study highlights the importance of sharia-based financing models—such as musyarakah and mudharabah—in supporting MSMEs to develop competitive waste-derived products, particularly in regions with abundant raw material availability, such as Banda Aceh. Overall, this study underscores the need for multidisciplinary integration to realize sustainable halal cosmetic innovations that hold the potential to become new industry opportunities within a circular economy framework

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the achievements of literacy, numeracy, and character education in Aceh Province based on the 2025 Education Report, as well as to examine their implications for science education, particularly Physics and Biology. The research data were obtained from the Aceh Education Quality Assurance Agency (BPMP) through the Education Report dashboard. The results show that literacy achievement reached 67.61, numeracy 66.61, and character 58.12. Of the 504 schools analyzed, 261 schools (51.8%) were categorized as good, 170 schools (33.7%) as fair, and 73 schools (14.5%) as poor. The 2023–2025 trend indicates an increase in literacy and numeracy achievement, while character achievement remained relatively stagnant. In the context of science learning, these findings highlight the need to strengthen scientific literacy, experiment-based numeracy, and the development of scientific attitudes through contextual learning and ethno-STEM approaches. The integration of the Independent Curriculum (Kurikulum Merdeka) with a deep learning approach offers a solution to reinforce literacy, numeracy, and character simultaneously within the context of science education.

Abstract

Soil contamination caused by the accumulation of heavy metals, pesticides, and industrial waste has become a critical environmental problem that affects human health, agricultural productivity, and ecosystem stability. Phytoremediation is an eco-friendly approach that utilizes plants to improve soil quality through the absorption, stabilization, degradation, or volatilization of pollutants. This article explores the potential of commonly found plant species in the surrounding environment as phytoremediation agents, including their working mechanisms, key species, and ecological implications. A literature review (2015–2024) reveals that Vetiveria zizanioides, Phragmites australis, Cyperus rotundus, Helianthus annuus, and Ageratum conyzoides demonstrate significant capability in reducing concentrations of heavy metals such as Pb, Cd, Zn, and Cu, as well as pesticide residues in contaminated soils. These findings highlight the promising role of phytoremediation in supporting sustainable land rehabilitation, especially in regions where access to advanced remediation technology is limited.

Abstract

Melia azedarach L., widely known as chinaberry or mindi, is a member of the Meliaceae family that has long been utilized in traditional medicine to treat various ailments such as fever, infections, and diabetes. This study provides a comprehensive review of the phytochemical constituents and pharmacological potential of M. azedarach L. based on a systematic analysis of national and international scientific literature. The findings reveal that the plant contains diverse secondary metabolites including flavonoids (rutin, quercetin), limonoids (salannin, nimbolinin), triterpenoids, phenolic acids, phytosterols, and essential oils. These bioactive compounds contribute to a wide range of biological activities such as antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anticancer, antiviral, and antidiabetic effects. Recent studies also highlight its anti-SARS-CoV-2 and immunomodulatory potential through mechanisms involving enzyme inhibition, oxidative stress induction in pathogens, and apoptosis activation in cancer cells. Therefore, Melia azedarach L. represents a promising natural source for the development of phytopharmaceutical products, although further preclinical and clinical studies are necessary to confirm its safety and therapeutic efficacy.
