Abstract

This research focuses on the kasar and tenga’an speech level of the Madurese language used by students in 4th, 5th and 6th grades at the Madrasah Ibtidaiah Mambaul in Probolinggo Regency. This study aims to describe the use of the Coarse and Tenga'an speech levels in Madurese language among students at Madrasah Ibtidaiah Mambaul Ulum Probolinggo. This research is relevant to do because there is still a lack of research on linguistic phenomena in Probolinggo, especially in the field of local language pragmatics. Therefore, this research is not only relevant to do, but also important to do. Based on the analysis that the use of tengnga’an speech level is often used by students of Madrasah Ibtidaiah Mambaul Ulum Probolinggo in daily conservation. They use kasar level, because they have certain factors namely kinship (sibling), equality (classmate), and situation. Kasar level occur between 4th grade to 4th grade and 4th grade to 5th grade because they are classmates or they are brother and they are in informal situation. Tengnga’an level occur because first reasons is they want to give honor to their friend,and second because the senior wants to teach politeness to their junior. Tengnga’an level used by students of Madrasah Ibtidaiah Mambaul Ulum Probolinggo occur in informal situation when they are to give honor to their frien and because they live in are Madrasah Ibtidaiah Mambaul Ulum Probolinggo environment, so they have a good effect on their behaviour.

Abstract

This research politeness strategy used by an English teacher at Smp Islam Nurus Syamsi to motivate student in English learning. This research used pragmatic theory Politness and Interaction by George Yule. The method that is used in this research is Qualitative Description Analysis Method by theory of Sudaryanto, meanwhile for searching or searching and analyzing the data this research used theory by Mile and Huberman. The results of the study shows that the total of occurrences is 52 data which comes from 4 sub-strategies. Positive politeness, Negative Politenes, Bald On Record, Off Record and Say Nothing. Bald On Record is the most dominant politeness strategy used by the teacher than the other politeness strategy.

Abstract

This research analyzed translation technique in the subtitle of Pitch Perfect 2 movie. This research has 807 data objective of study and found 9 types of translation techniques by Molina, L. and Albir. They 1. Adaptation technique used is 25 data ( 3,1 % ), the translator change the culture element from source language to target language become close meaning, 2. Borrowing technique used is 16 data ( 2,1% ), the translator is totally use pure borrowing technique, 3. Generalization technique used is 8 data ( 1,13 % ), the translator is translate the source language in general term of something,4. Linguistic Compression technique used is 115 data ( 14,2 % ), the translator is totally compress the target language from the source language, 5.Literal Translation technique used 357 data (44,2 %), the translator is use literal meaning on this technique, 6. Modulation technique used is 144 data (17, 8% ) , the translator is change point of view in this technique 7. Reduction technique used is 57 data ( 7,1 % ), the translator is not translate the source language, but is not change the meaning and context, 8. Transposition technique used is 26 data (3,22 % ), the translator change the source language in target language in a grammatical theory and 9. Variation technique used is 58 data ( 7,1 % ). The dominant technique that used is Literal translation technique that found 355 data (44,2%).

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe in depth the meaning and reveal the cultural values contained in the Temu Manten ceremony in Brumbungan Kidul Village. Many people are actors in the Temu Manten ceremony but do not know the meaning contained in each series of these ceremonies. This study uses the Symbolic Interactionalism Theory by George Herbert Mead, which is a research that examines social and cultural groups in society in depth. So that researchers must be involved and directly follow the daily aspects of their research. This study uses a qualitative method that aims to describe the symbolic meaning of Temu Manten in Brumbungan Kidul Village. In Brumbungan Kidul Village, only people who have more money use Complete Javanese Traditional Weddings. For the lower middle class, they usually only use yellow rice cone which is eaten with their lover after the marriage contract. The Temu Manten tradition is a package with displays and MUA or called WO (Wedding Organizer). It can be concluded that marriage with the Temu Manten tradition can be said to be a marker of social status.

Abstract

This research analyzed the representation of Javanese woman in Aroma Karsa novel by Dee Lestari. The aim of this study is to know the representamen meaning and describe the representation of Javanese woman in Aroma Karsa novel. The research is uses semiotic theory based on Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotic model: representamen, object, interpretant. Aroma Karsa novel tells Javanese woman as strong, brave, smart, and idealistic. This research hopes to be used as a useful contribution to the implementation of feminism and changing the society’s perspective on Javanese woman who are considered as weak and dependent on men.

Abstract

This research analyze Representation of South Korean Pop Culture in Fashion K-Pop Idol. One of the trends in K-Pop idol is a fashion outfit and fashion brand. The purpose of this study is to describe the meaning and describe representation in fashion K-Pop idol. The scope of this study is cultural study by using semiotics in Charles Sanders Pierce theory. The limitation of this research in the picture, fashion, outfit, accessories and brand of K-Pop idol, which describe representation of south korean pop culture in fashion K-Pop idol. The theory on semiotics analysis is based on Charles Sander Pierce : sign –object-interpretant, or is called the triangle theory of meaning. The method of this research use of method analize a research design, data source, data collection method and data analysis method The result shows that Korean teenagers are considered to have their own uniqueness, which is different from the fashion styles that come from Western countries so that the uniqueness of Korean-style clothes is identical to the bright colors of clothes and can easily be combined with Asian body colors and skin., K-Pop idol fashion is indeed in great demand by many people, especially K-Popers, they even imitate all the styles that their idols wear from outfit to brands worn by their idol.

Abstract

Madurese is a language used by the Madura ethnic in their daily communication. This research aim to describe the Madura dialect used in Probolinggo-Bondowoso-Banyuwangi whether the dialect is the same or different, and aims to determine the lexical differences of the Madura dialect in the three research areas and determine the status of the Madura dialect in Probolinggo-Bondowoso-Banyuwangi. This research uses a theory related to dialectology research and uses a quantitative descriptive method using 829 gloss from Swadesh Morrish developed by Nothover and was modified by Kisyani Savitri and also uses purposive sampling method in determining the research area and uses the interview method to collected data. After completing the data, there are 175 gloss of lexical differences was found by using dialectometry method. The result are: Probolinggo-Bondowoso has totally 107 gloss of lexical differences with 61,14% different dialect. Probolinggo-Banyuwangi has totally 162 gloss of lexical differences with 92,57% different dialect. Bondowoso-Banyuwangi has totally 143 gloss of lexical differences with 81,71% different dialect, and the status of the three research areas are different dialect.

Abstract

Pendalungan is a unique community. This uniqueness is caused by the hybrid cultural construction of the Pendalungan people. Therefore, it is relevant to carry out cultural research in the Pendalungan community. The object of this research is the Ajheru' Cabbih salvation tradition found in the Pendalungan Probolinggo community. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative method. Based on research conducted, it was found that Ajheru' Cabbih is the name of a ritual carried out by the Kedungrejo people before the first chili harvest. This ritual is meant to bring a successful harvest and blessings. The Ajheru' Cabbih tradition has been passed down from generation to generation and is characterized by various elements such as time, place, tools used, and the person who performs the ritual. Ajheru' Cabbih is not well known outside Kedungrejo, but this tradition still survives or has its existence to this day.

Abstract

This research focuses on the Totop Sobluk Geger salvation tradition found in the Pendalungan Probolinggo community. The aim of this research is to describe the Totop Sobluk Geger salvation tradition found in the Pendalungan Probolinggo community. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative method. The data collection techniques used in this research are observation, interviews and documentation techniques. Based on the research carried out, it was found that the Totop Sobluk Geger salvation tradition is a salvation tradition that is still being preserved in the Pendalungan Probolinggo community. This tradition is a syncretistic tradition because it combines elements from Pendalungan culture and elements contained in the Islamic religion.
