Abstract

This study was aimed at determining effects of soil surface treatments and organic matter types, as well as interactions between the two treatments on growth of cayenne pepper. The results showed that there were significant interactions between soil surface treatments and organic material types on plant growth of cayenne pepper at age of 5 weeks after planting.  Surface treatments affected plant growth However, the soil surface treatments were influenced by types of organic matters given in the soil.  On organic matter in the form of compost, the best growth was found on recycled newspaper mulch placed on soil surface. Conversely, on organic matter in the form of pieces of recycled newspaper, mulch of recycled newspapers gave the worst growth.  Organic matters also affected plant growth. However, treatment of organic matter was also influenced by soil surface treatments. On the surface soil compaction treatment, the best growth was obtained at compost. On treatment of newspaper mulch, the best growth was also obtained at the type of compost. In contrast, on the untreated soil surface, the best growth was found at the type of organic matter made of the pieces of recycled newspaper.

Abstract

Testing of Simulation Model of Soybean Seed Vigor Growth on Saline Soil ABSTRACT. The purpose of this research are to examine growth capability of 5 soybean varieties and to find out is laboratory seed testing model may be use to simulate the growth capability of soybean planted at soil with salinity problem. It is expected through this research obstacle in quick screening of plant growth at saline soil being solved. This research conducted from April – December 2011 at Seed Laboratory and Experimental Station of Agricultur Faculty of Unsyiah and farmer soil at Blang Krueng village, Aceh Besar. Experimental designs used in this research were Factorial CRD for laboratory and Factorial CRBD for field experiment. There are 5 varieties of soybean (Bener Meriah local seed, Kipas Merah, Kipas Putih, Anjasmoro and Orba) and 2 germination medium/soil (normal and saline) being examine, with 3 replicates, resulting 30 units experiments. Result from field experiments show that there is a significant interaction between soybean varieties and soil salinity level to seed growth capability. At normal soil, differences in varieties did not resulting in differences in seed growth capabilities, otherwise at saline soil. According to seed growth capabilities, at normal soil farmers can used any variety available, depends on production level. But, at saline soil farmers have to use Bener Meriah local seed. Whilst result from laboratory experiment did not show interaction of treatments to germination capability of soybean seed, but each treatment show its significant effect. Normal soil and Bener Meriah local seed are the best at laboratory experiment. The correlation test show that there is no close relationship between germination capability at laboratory and growth capability at field experiment, indicates that the method at laboratory cannot be use as a representative model to seed growth from field experiment.

Abstract

Effect of IAA and BAP on Growth of Patchouli (Pogestemon cablin Benth) In Vitro Muhammad Hatta, Mardhiah Hayati dan Ulfa Irayani Fakultas Pertanian Unsyiah Darussalam Banda Aceh  ABSTRACT The research was aimed at understanding response of patchouli growth in vitro to concentration of IAA and BAP, and looking at interaction between both treatments.  The experiment was arranged in a factorial randomized complete block design (RCBD)  2 x 6 with 5 replicates.  Factors investigated were concentration of  IAA (0 dan 1 mgl-1) and concentration of BAP (0.0, 0.4, 0.8, 1.6, 3.2 dan 6.4 mgl-1). Variables observed were shoot numbers, shoot height, and leaf numbers at 8 weeks after culturing. The results showed that there was interaction between IAA and BAP on leaf numbers of plantlet at 8 weeks after culturing, where the presence of IAA in the medium caused BAP to exert negative effect on lef formation. On shoot numbers and shoot height, the concentration of IAA and BAP did not exert any effect.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The study was aimed at determining kinds of ameliorants that increase fertility on Hemic Peats Soil.  The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design (CRD) with 6 treatments and 4 replications.  The result showed that the ameliorants increased pH (H2O), exchangeable cations (K, Na, Ca, Mg) and base saturation.  Sawdust had the highest ability to increase base saturation, K, and Na.  Lime had the highest ability to increase pH (H2O), Ca, and Mg.  Sawdust increased fertility hemic peats soil better than lime.

Abstract

Toxicity n-hexane leaf extract Lantana camara and its active fractions were evaluated for their insecticidal activit  ies against Plutella xylostella larvae. The method included sample extraction, fractionation, and toxicity examination of leaf extract L. camara and its active fractions against P. xylostella larvae.  The extracts were applied by residue method.  Fractionation of active compounds from extract n-hexane was conducted by a vacuum liquid chromatography by using a stationary phase of silicate gel GF254­ and mobile phase of n-hexane, etil acetate, and methanol which produced five  fractions, that is fractions A, B, C, D, and E.  Leaf extract of  L. camara and its fractions possessed an insecticidal activity  causing mortality to P. xylostella larvae. The results showed that LC50 of crude extract at 3 and 4 day after applications was 0,936 and 0,651%, while LC50 of fractions A = 0,386 and 0,178%; fractions C = 0,327 and 0,132; fractions D = 0,617 and 0,318%; fractions E = 0,622 and 0,244%.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know the effect of moisture content of field capacity on the growth of several mutant genotypes of 3rd generation (M3) Kipas Merah soybean varieties. The research was conducted at Screen House and Soil Chemistry Laboratory  Faculty of Agriculture Syiah Kuala Universtity from May to Jun 2015. The experimental Randomized Block Design (CRBD) factorial was used, consisting of two factors and three replications. The first factor was based on the field capacity level, consisting of 100%, 80%, 60%, and 40%, and the second factor consisted of 14 mutants of 3rd generation Kipas Merah and the original Kipas Merah variety as control. The results showed that the interaction between field capacity and soybean genotype significantly affected the growth of soybean crops. In a 40% field capacity treatment of almost all the parameters tested the genotype showed no significant difference, howeverKM300-38 showed the highest plant among the genotypes tested. In a 60% of field capacity, genotype KM200-18 and KM200-37 showed better growth on all parameters tested, although not significantly different from genotype KM200-9, KM200-41, and KM300-9. Genotypes of mutant soybean that can survive and provide good growth in water shortage are KM200-18, KM200-37, KM200-9, KM300-9, and KM200-41.Selection of drought-tolerant genotypes can be performed under 40% of the field capacity.

Abstract

           The objective of this research was to study content of heavy metal  (Pb) in soil and lettuce tissue caused by organic and inorganic fertilizers application. This research applied a factorial completely randomized design (CRD) with 3 replicates. The first factor was organic fertilizer, consisting of 4 levels and the second factor was inorganic fertilizers, consisting of 2 levels. Variables observed were fresh weight, and content of heavy metal in soil and tissue. Results showed that application of organic and inorganic fertilizers could reduce level of lead Pb) in soil and plant tissue. The highest Pb concentration was in the treatment without organic fertilizer and the lowest Pb concentration was in the organic fertilizer of 45 tons per ha, which was not significantly different from the organic fertilizer of 30 tons per ha. The highest plant fresh weight was obtained in dosage of organic fertilizer 15 tons/ha in the second planting. The best combination for plant fresh weight was an organic fertilizer of 15 tons/ha and an inorganic fertilizer of 1000 kg/ha.

Abstract

This study was aimed at determining type of organic material suitable for the growth and yield of two varieties of tomatoes and the interaction between the two factors. This experiment was conducted at the experimental field of the Agriculture Faculty, Syiah Kuala University, Darussalam, Banda Aceh. The experiment was arranged in a randomized complete block design, 4 x 2 with three replications. There were two factors investigated: organic material consisting 4 levels (control, manure, compost peat, and compost), varieties consisting two levels (Permata and Lentana F1). Variables observed were height and stem diameter, fruit weight per plant, number of fruits per plant, number of bunches per plant, number of fruits per bunch, average weight per fruit and yield potential. The results showed that the type of organic material highly significantly affected plant height and stem diameter at the ages of 30 and 45 days after planting, fruit weight per plant, number of fruits per plant, and significantly affected plant height at the age of 15 HST but did not significantly affect the number of bunches per plant, number of fruits per bunch, average weight per fruit and yield potential. Growth and yield were better at manure compared to compost, peat compost, and control. Varieties significantly affected stem diameter at the age of 15, 30 and 45 days after planting, fruit weight per plant, number of fruits per plant, number of bunches per plant, number of fruits per bunch, average weight per fruit and potential results. Growth and yield were better found in varieties Permata. There were significant interactions between types of organic materials and varieties in all observed variables on growth and yield of tomato.

Abstract

Effect of Organic Matter in Tsunami Affected Land on Growht and Production of Several Varieties of Mung Bean at Blang Krueng Village Muhammad Hatta dan Nurhayati* Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Syiah Kuala Banda Aceh ABSTRACT The experiment was aimed at studying dosages of organic matter for growth and production of several varieties of mung bean in the tsunami affected land.  The experiment was conducted atBlangKruengVillage, a tsunami affected area, from July to September 2006.  The experiment applied factorial completely randomized design with three replicates.  Two factors were studied, i.e. varieties and dosages of organic matter.  Varieties were consisted ofGelatik, Parkit, and local while dosages were consisted of 0, 10, 20, and 30 t/ha.  The results showed that varieties significantly afffected dried weight of grain per plot, but did not significantly affect other variables.  Parkit variety had the best one.  Dosages of organic matter did not significantly affect variables observed.

Abstract

Variables of seed quality are correlated each others, especially in storage. This fact needs investigation to predict main variables for measuring seed quality at storage. The objectives of this study were to investigate the main variables on growth analysis and seed quality using path analysis in production of extension seed. The field trial was carried out at Sebapo Experimental Station, Jambi and laboratory works were conducted in the Center for Post Harvest Research and Development,  The Ministry of Agriculture and Center for Forest Research and Development, The Ministry of Forestry, Bogor from April until December 2010. The experimental design used was an unformatted design. The research showed that relative growth rate and protein were the main variables to improve soybean seed quality.
