Abstract

Screening genotypes of Aceh cacao to obtain resistant genotypes to Black Pod Disease (Phytopthora palmivora) is a key step. This study was conducted on basis of screening natural infection in the field and artificial infection in laboratory. The research was conducted in the field (Saree Aceh and East Aceh) and in the Plant Pathology Laboratory, Agriculture Faculty, Syiah Kuala University. The study started from March to November 2013. Results from the field and laboratory, based on artificial inoculation, showed that three genotypes originated from Saree Aceh i.e. SR 26, SR 40 and SR7 were resistant, indicated by the characters of long incubation period (more than five days), a small diameter of spot, slow growth of the spot, and low percentage of symptoms. The three genotypes had both a good wounded post-penetration and unwounded pre-penetration resistance. Conversely, cacao genotypes originated from East Aceh did not show a significant difference of post-penetration resistance.

Abstract

The Organic Compound Supplement in Knudson C Medium on The Growth of Protocorm Like Bodies of Dendrobium Bertacong Blue X Dendrobium Undulatum  Syammiah Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Syiah Kuala Banda Aceh ABSTRACT The aim of this research was to find out the best modification on Knudson C medium for the growth of protocorm like bodies of Dendrobium bertachong blue X Dendrobium undulatum in vitro. Research has been done for three months from April to July 2005. Completely Randomized Design with 6 treatments and 4 replications was applied. The treatments were Knudson C medium added with: 15% of coconut liquid endosperm, 7.5% of banana juice, 0.2% of yeast extract, 15% of potato juice, 5% of aloe juice, and 5% of tomato juice. The results showed that 5% of tomato juice was the fastest for shoot forming and 5% of aloe juice was the best medium supplement for the colour of protocorm like bodies.

Abstract

The use of superior seeds and certified hybrids is one of the efforts to increase the productivity of chili. Absorption of nutrients and water is strongly supported by root growth, with the administration of Trichoderma sp. hence root growth becomes better so that the process of absorption of nutrients and water will also be optimal which also results in the growth and production of chili plants. This study aims to determine the effect of varieties and dosages of T. harzianum pellets as well as their interactions with the growth and production of chili. The design used in this study was a factorial randomized block design (RBD) with 3 replications. The results showed that the treatment of varieties had a very significant effect on the average plant height and canopy width at 20, 40, and 60 DAP, wet stover weight, dry stover weight, fruit length and fruit diameter. Varieties have a significant effect on leaf length, and root length. The growth and production of chili plants is better found in the Lado variety. The dose of T. harzianum has a very significant effect on the average root length and has a significant effect on the average weight of dry stover. The better growth and production of chili plants is found in the administration of 20 g of T. harzianum / plant.

Abstract

                      Cacao is an important plantation plant in Indonesia for its contribution to our income.  The productivity of this plant still have a chance to be increased, with the improvement in culture technique. One limited information concerning the cacao cultivation technique is seedling ages and urea dosages when transplanting. The purposes of this research were to find out the effect of seedling ages, urea dosages, and interaction between them on cacao seedling growth at nursery. Research was conducted at Experimental Station of Agriculture Faculty, University of Syiah Kuala. Units of treatment were arranged according to Factorial Randomized Complete Block Design with 4 replicates, followed by Honestly Significant Different Test at the level of 5%. Seeds were extracted from 1/3 of cacao mature fruits at the center of the pod and germinated in germination box filled with sand and covered by wet towel. Growing medium used was top soil:manure:sand=2:1:1 (by volume). Variables observed were seedling height, stem diameter, leaf number and area, primary root length, and wet and dry mass of seedling at 45, 60 75 and 90 days after transplanting. Results showed that there were significant  interactions between treatments on all variables observed. The best combination was age of 10 days of seedling and dosage of 2 g urea per polybag.

Abstract

MOL (Local Microorganism) is one of the key factors to determine the success in manufacturing of organic fertilizer. MOL can fully substitute EM4 (Effective Microorganism) widely being sold in market, as starter to accelerate composting process. The MOL in the experiment was produced from agricultural waste likes in consumable fruits. The experiment was aimed to investigate a better fermentation method in the production of MOL. A Split Plot Design with fermentation methods (with and without applying of air channel) as main plot and length of fermentation (0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 weeks) as sub-plot were applied to produce MOL, with 2 replications. With air channel, the gas produced from the fermentation process could be channeled out of the fermentation container. Analysis of MOL quality included total microorganisms (TCC), temperature, pH, and color. In general, result showed that the MOLs produced from fermentations without air channel were better than the ones produced from with air channel. The highest amount of TCC in MOL was produced from 3 weeks fermentation without air channel.

Abstract

Polyethylene Glycole Effectivity as Selection Agent to Soybean: Kipas Merah from Bireun Radiated with Gamma Ray for Drought Stress Tolerance ABSTRACT. The purpose of this research is to know the effectivity of Polytethylene Glycole (PEG) in drought simulation in vitro to soybean – Kipas Merah from Bireun – radiated with gamma ray. Research was conducted in Tissue Culture Laboratory, Agriculture Faculty, Syiah Kuala University, Darussalam, Banda Aceh. Gamma ray radiation conducted at Research Development of Isotop and Radiation Technology of BATAN, Pasar Jum`at, Jakarta. The results show that increasing in PEG concentration into selection medium in vitro, decrease soybean seed germination percentage. Twenty percent of PEG concentration can be use as sub lethal concentration for the next drought selection attempt. Gamma ray radiation cause variation to seed germination percentage and seed growth in vitro.

Abstract

ABSTRACT             The objective of study was to determine the effective concentration of garlic extract in controlling S. zeamais on maize in storage. Concentrations of garlic extract tested were 2 percent, 4 percent, 6 percent, 8 percent, 10 percent, and 12 percent. The results showed that garlic extracts were potential as plant-based insecticide, indicated by a positive effect of garlic extract on S. zeamais mortality, the average time of S. zeamais death, the maize kernel damage and the number of S. zeamais progeny. Concentration of 12 percent gave the highest mortality rate of S. zeamais, the fastest average time of S. zeamais death, the lowest maize kernel damage and the lowest number of S. zeamais progeny, while the concentration of 2 percent gave the lowest mortality rate of  S. zeamais, the longest average time of S. zeamais death, the highest percentage of kernel damage, and the highest number of S. zeamais progeny.

Abstract

The research was aimed at studying effects of potassium on the development of Aphis glycines populations and soybean yield. The experiment was conducted in Village Rayeuk Naleung, Sub district Tanah Luas, District North Aceh from July to September 2013. The experiment was arranged in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with 3 replicates. The treatment was without fertilizer, potassium fertilizer at a dose of 25 kg/ha K2O, 50 kg K2O/ha and 75 kg K2O/ha. The variables observed were populations of A. glycines and components of yield soybean. The results showed that potassium at doses of 75 kg K2O/ha can reduce populations of A. glycines and soybean yield increase as compared to potassium fertilization at a dose of 25 kg/ha K2O  and 50 kg K2O/ha.

Abstract

The Aplication of PaddyHusks As An Alternative  Medium and  Test of Efectivity Of Foliar Fertilizer on Growth and Yield of Tomato In Hydroponics ABSTRACT             A research of using various media and fertilizers on tomato planted hydroponically has been conducted in the green house of Agriculture faculty, Syiah Kuala University, Banda Aceh, starting from July to November 2002. The objective of research was to observe the influence of various media and fertilizer, as well as the interaction of each other to the growth and yield of tomato planted hydroponically. The treatment composed of two factors, namely various media (paddy’s husks / kuntan, sands, and mixture of  kuntan and sands) and fertilizers (Vitamon, Bayfolan, Complesal and Hoagland solution). The research was assigned in completely randomized design in a factorial manner, consisting three replications. The results showed that the best growth and highest yield of the tomato were found in the mixture medium (kuntan + sands). These results were significantly different from those of the single medium. The use of Hoagland solution resulted on the best growth and highest yield of tomato which were not significantly different from those of Bayfolan and Complesal Fertilizer. It is observed that there were no significant interactions between the two factors tested.

Abstract

Biologi dan Statistik Demografi Menochilus sexmaculatus Fabricius (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) Predator Aphis gossypii Glover (Homoptera: Aphididae). Masa perkembangan pradewasa dan imago serta keperidian Menochilus sexmaculatus (Fabricius) (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) telah diteliti di laboratorium dengan menggunakan Aphis gossypii (Glover) (Homoptera: Aphididae) sebagai mangsa. Masa perkembangan M. sexmaculatus sejak stadium telur hingga menjadi imago adalah 29,43 ± 4,71 hari. Perkembangan larva terdiri dari empat instar, masa perkembangan instar I sampai IV berturut-turut adalah 1,72 ± 0,21 hari, 1,74 ± 0,31 hari, 2,30 ± 0,46 hari dan 2,46 ± 0,40 hari. Betina M. sexmaculatus yang keluar dari pupa mampu meletakkan telur sebanyak 123,44 ± 15,03 butir, selama 13,50 ± 2,12 hari. Parameter demografi M. sexmaculatus menunjukkan bahwa laju reproduksi kotor (GRR) adalah 130,50 individu per generasi; laju reproduksi bersih (Ro) 40,15 individu per induk per generasi; laju pertumbuhan intrinsik (rm) sebesar 0,44 individu per induk per hari; masa generasi rata-rata (T) selama 16,87 hari; populasi berlipat ganda (DT) selama 1,57 hari.Keywords: Predator, Coccinellidae, Aphididae sp, Cabai
