Al-A'raf: Jurnal Pemikiran Islam dan Filsafat
AL-ARAF: Jurnal Pemikiran Islam dan Filsafat is highly dedicated as a public space to explore and socialise academic ideas and research findings from the researchers, academics, and practitioners who are concerned with developing and promoting the values of religious moderation and tolerance, with the following but not limited to, six main topics: (1) Islamic Thought; (2) Islamic Philosophy; (3) Islamic Theology; (4) Islam and Politics; (5) Islam and Culture; and (6) Qur’an and Hadith Studies. Taking an expansive view of the subject, the journal brings together all disciplinary perspectives. It publishes peer-reviewed articles on the historical, cultural, social, philosophical, political, anthropological, literary, and other aspects of the subject in all times and places. The journal aims to become one of the leading platforms in the world for new findings and discussions of all the aforementioned fields. Academics from any countries who are interested in these topics are cordially invited to submit their article to Al-A’raf and to use this open-access journal. Novelty and recency of issues are the priority in publishing.

This paper offers an interpretation approach which involves historical data as its important dimension, socio-cultural contexts, and psychological effect on the audience. It is an important thing, since the Qur’anic interpretation studies in the contemporary era demands an interpretation model which involves historical data, socio-cultural context and psychological effect on the society. Since, the holy Qur’an given to Prophet Muhammad SAW was revealed in order to respond certain social condition, so each verse given to the prophet was clearly interrelated actively to the space and time. Hereby, each verse of the holy Qur’an has its own historical context, meaning, and effect.

Wearing jilbab as an obligation of the religious teaching is not the only reason for Muslim women to wear it. There are many factors that cause someone wearing jilbab. It can be from internal and also external factors. The internal factor comes from individual’s awareness to implement syariat, whereas the external factors come from motivation from closely related persons, existing regulation of wearing jilbab, and also environmental influence. At the early process of wearing jilbab, there are that influence someone’s decision to wear jilbab. The resistance from within (self-resistance) is mind pressure felt by someone faced change. Whereas resistance coming from outside, can be from family, negative response of the society, and the unsupported environment.

History of the Qur’an has showed numbers of its translations into various languages, including Indonesian Language. Even the existence and the roles of translations in society are evidently needed, but its theoretical discourse within the field of ‘Ulum Alqur’an is still ambiguous. This paper attempts to describe the theoretical debate in Qur’anic translation and examine it through the existed Qur’anic translation in Indonesia. The basic argument built is that the theory of tarjamah Alqur’an within ‘Ulum Alqur’an has several theoretical problems: first, the categorization of harfiyyah and tafsiriyyah are not clearly operative; second, the terminology of tarjamah is implied to be meaningless; and third, there is no clear-cut concept of tarjamah dan tafsir. This problem rose from the stringency in the meaning of tarjamah and theological burden to emphasize i’jiz of the Qur’an. Hereby, widening the meaning of tarjamah as an alternative solution is needed.

Umar ibn al-Khattab was one of the most controversial caliphs. He was a caliph that was courageous or "disobedient" to the text of Alqur’an and Sunnah literally. This “disobedient”side of Umar ibn al-Khattab brought up a serious reaction from the other companions. Toward this context, Umar ibn al-Khattab could be said as the “liberal” companion, because of his courage to re-interpret the sacred text. From the J.E. Gracia’s perspective, the way of Umar ibn al-Khattab interpreting the sacred text is a sophisticated reading, considering that at the time he had already been aware of the hermeneutic difference from other companions. This hermeneutic consciousness was able to make Umar bin al-Khattab placing the sacred text as a text that can be reinterpreted in accordance with the certain conditions and its maqasid can be taken. Thus, the sacred text revealed historically, is always sahih li kulli zaman wa makan.

Amin Alkhulli was mapping out the qur’anic studies into two big themes, dirasat ma hawl Alquran dan dirasat fi Alquran nafsih. From this classification could be seen that majaz as part of the second studies. Majaz was categorized by Alkhulli as part of the Qur’anic text grammatical structure. Making the qur’anic text as an object of the study, therefore the existence of majaz will give various discourses. The linguistic theory gave two perspectives on this, first stated that Alqur’an was not contended majaz, because majaz indicated to have the untruth content, whereas it was impossible for Alquran to give the improper information. Second, majaz was existed inside the qur’anic texts, because it was indicating the elegant and high expression of language. Here is the focus of this article, wherein besides of becoming part of the qur’anic text, majaz was also becoming Islamic studies discourses. Â

Poverty is the social-human problem in Indonesia and in the world. Pesantren with its social capital was able to take a role for that encourages social change towards a better direction. This study is a critical study on the role of pesantren in the mobilization process of social values and norms so that it was able to make social change in the perspective of social capital. The result of the study shows that through its social capital, such as social networking and trust, pesantren was able to break through the backwardness of society into a better society. In fact, the direction of social change conducted by pesantren which is integrating the religious values with the various dimension of social lives, and based on the spirit then supported by the principle of trust, empirically all of these become the powerful basis for the professional relationship.Â

This paper tries to describe the role of Risalah Nur movement and its relationship with the tariqa movement in Turkey, especially after the collapse of the Ottoman Caliphate and the early modern state of Turkey. The methodological study of this paper will refer to literature perspective, specifically historical analysis of the life of Said Nursi and his work Risalah Nur through the Nursi’s books and the other related literatures. My study is assuming that Risalah Nur plays an important role when the tariqa, mysticism/tasawuf teachings banned by the Turkish government since 1925. For some Muslim scholars the Risalah Nur written in Arabic and Turkish is considered as the treasures of Islamic knowledge in Turkey. In fact, the Risalah Nur is supposed to be a role model of the Islamic teachings in Muslim world in which the manuscript represents the essential contents of the Quran. The Risalah Nur is strongly referred to Sufism, which deals with the universal value of peace and love that must be relevant for Muslims and all human beings from time to time.

This paper aims to discuss the revitalization of the logical reasoning’s epistemology of Islamic Jurisprudence using the sociology of knowledge' approach as the reconstructive effort to see the relation of the religious text and political context of Indonesian social reality. Based on the historical analysis of the diachronic data, comparing the various political phenomena in the past Islamic history to the nowadays situation, the study revealed that the logical reasoning of Islamic jurisprudence was always related dialectically with the human social life as a fact that Islamic studies have been able to change the paradigm and mindset of the civilization.

This article describes on the alternative reading (qira'ah altaniyah) of Alqur’an proposed by Muhammad Shahrur, in his work “Alkitab wa Alqur’an: Qira'ah Almu'ashirahâ€. Through this work, Syahrur proposed an integrative-interpretation method which is built through combining analysis of natural science, social science, and tafsir. Based on the descriptive analysis approach to this works, this study found out two important things: (1) Syahrur using mathematical analysis to interpret the muhkamat’s verses and science analysis for mutasyabihat’s verses. (2) Hudud is a result of the integrative analysis interpretation based on the linguistic and mathematic analysis in understanding the Quranic verses about the law, while ta’wil ilmi is an understanding toward mutasyabihat verses, like the revelation, which is based on the analysis of natural science cognitive.Â

This research aims to describe the conception of fitrah in the perspective of hadith. This is qualitative research, in which the data gathered from the various correlated literature to the focus of the study, such as Alqur’an and Hadith and the other religious texts. Takhrij is necessary conducted in order to know the credibility of rawi and the authenticity of hadith, followed by cross-checking to the qur’anic verses which are in line with the text of hadith in order to find out the comprehensive understanding. Hereby, the result of the research revealed that hadith-hadith which is talking about fitrah discussed, judged as maqbul and representative to be used as hujjah, or fundamental concept of fitrah and it is able to be implemented into the daily life.
