Abstract

The Council of Nicaea (325 AD) was an important milestone in the history of Christianity that affirmed the divinity of Christ through the formulation of homoousios, namely the essential equality between Jesus Christ and the Father. In the Western theological tradition, this decision is often understood in the context of the theology of its time. However, in the perspective of Minjung theology that developed in the context of the struggle of the oppressed people in Korea, the incarnation of Christ is not merely an ontological issue, but also an act of divine solidarity with the oppressed. This study interprets the decision of the Council of Nicaea in the framework of Minjung theology, emphasizing how the incarnation of Christ can be seen as God's act that radically sides with those who suffer. This study uses a hermeneutic approach and explores how the concept of homoousios can be interpreted as a form of God's involvement in the reality of human suffering. Analysis of Minjung theological texts, especially the works of theologian Ahn Byung-Mu, is used to highlight the dimension of liberation in the event of the incarnation. The results of this study indicate that the meaning of the incarnation in the Minjung perspective emphasizes that God not only has compassion, but actively enters the history of human suffering, providing hope and transformative power for marginalized communities. Thus, the Minjung theological interpretation of the Council of Nicaea offers a more contextual and relevant understanding for Christian communities struggling in situations of injustice.

Abstract

Discussing the Parable of the Good Samaritan, one of the main themes that can be discussed is the theology of cordiality "his heart was moved with compassion". This cordiality is revealed from the actions of the Good Samaritan figure. He helped a victim who needed a helping hand of compassion. Insinuatingly, the actions of the good Samaritan were driven by his cordiality. In the context of the Council of Nicaea, the beliefs about God are summarized in homoousios. The beliefs about God in Jesus are as follows: God who is one in essence and God who is in cordial with human being. This article will discuss the beliefs or spirituality derived from a combined analysis of the cordiality of the Good Samaritan and the concept of homoousios in the Council of Nicaea. The author uses historical-critical analysis and hermeneutic methods. These methods were carried out using library research. From the cordial actions of the Good Samaritan and the concept of homoousios, the author finds concepts and relevancies: Almighty God transcends the limits of human being; but also, Almighty God become human being and moves humans to do cordial acts of love specifically for the marginalized and suffering.

Abstract

The Nicene Creed (325), which affirms the Trinity as the core of Christian faith with profound theological, spiritual, and social ramifications, holds particular significance within the Asian context. This qualitative study employs a literature review to analyse the intricate relationship between the doctrine of the Trinity and communal spirituality in Asia. A comprehensive review of theological sources was undertaken, and the results demonstrate how the Trinitarian understanding of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit's relationality inspires a communal ethos characterised by solidarity, harmony, and togetherness. Within Asian traditions, which are deeply rooted in values of collectivity and interrelational spirituality, the doctrine of the Trinity emerges as a potent paradigm for an inclusive and dialogical expression of faith. The study thus substantiates the conclusion that the Nicene Creed, in addition to its dogmatic function, possesses the power to effect transformation in the practical realm of Christian communal life throughout Asia.

Abstract

One of the discussions in the Council of Nicea was that man was created in the Imago Dei (the image of God). With the presence of Christ as God incarnate, this understanding is further affirmed, that man has sacred value and ultimate goal in relation to God. In line with that, Nurcholish Madjid, who is one of the Islamic figures in Indonesia, also has interesting thoughts about human beings, especially about human dignity. His thinking is based on Islamic teachings about humans being created as representatives of Allah in this world. This theme of human dignity is important, especially when viewed from two perspectives, Catholicism (in the Council of Nicaea) and Islam (in Nurcholish Madjid's thought). The hope is the creation of a dialogue of thought between two different cultures for the sake of creating harmony and mutual understanding. Therefore, this article wants to answer the question of How did Nurcholish Madjid and the Council of Nicea think about human dignity? The author tries to see the connection between the points of thought in the council of Nicaea and the points of thought of Nurcholish Madjid. Using the Appreciative Inquiry and interculturality approach, the author wants to dialogue these two thoughts and find out what things are related to each other. This paper argues that both Nicea and Madjid contribute valuable insights into the discourse on human dignity. This common view can be a way of dialogue between Islam and Catholicism so that harmony can be created in religious life.
