Abstract

This study aims to determine whether students' translation skills can have a good effect using the Duolingo application for class VIII students using quantitative and qualitative methods. This research was conducted on 15 students of class VIII MTs Panca Dharma Padang Sidempuan. The results of this study indicate that the use of the Duolingo application is effective. This is evidenced by the data collected in the field. At that time the results of the pre-test were still bad. Then at the post-test stage 100% achieved the minimum completeness criteria. Therefore, related to the results of observations showed that students experienced an increase. Based on the students who passed the KKM above, it means that the actions taken were successful. The suggestion of this research to other researchers is to use the Duolingo application to help students' translation skills.

Abstract

An Error Analysis of Using Simple Present Tense in Descriptive Text at The Grade VIII MTs Muhammadiyah 22 Padangsidimpuan (2018). The purpose of this study is to analyze of student’s errors on the use of present tense in Descritpive text based on the problem that students felt confused about using present tense in their writing especially Descriptive text. The method of study is qualitative descriptive. The subject of study writer chose VIII-A class (2021/2022) in MTs Muhammadiyah 22 Padangsidimpuan. Data collection techniques by instructing students to write descriptive text with a given theme. The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis methods and classified the types of errors and the writer gave check in the observation checklist. The result show that the reseacher found four types of errors: omission, addition, misformation, misodering. Then, the writer found the highest error made by students is misformation with 37% percentages. This problem influenced by student felt confused to understand simple present tense because they didn't understand the use and placement of to be on the chosen subject. Therefore, students claimed if they seldom to practice writing paragraph.

Abstract

The aims of this research are to find out the types of error and dominant error in students’ writing Descriptive Text by using Proofreader as analysis tool, at the grade X of SMA Negeri 1 Portibi. The researcher used purposive random sampling at the grade X IPA 1 with the number of sample were 33 students. The result showed that types of errors made by students in writing Descriptive Text were; spelling(27,8%), style(10,1%), punctuation(3,7%), grammar(7,3%), capitalization(32,7%), collocation(1,1%), typography(9,9%), redundant phrase(2,1%), and miscellaneous(4,9%). The dominant errors in students’ writing Descriptive Text were; capitalization in the highest percentage that is 32,7% with total error 139, and followed by spelling(118), style(43), typography(42), grammar(31), miscellaneous(21), punctuation(16), redundant phrase(9), and collocation(5)

Abstract

The aims of the research to determine the improvement of students’ reading skill after using story mapping in understanding narrative text. In this study, the research used quantitative methods with the type of Classroom Action Research (CAR). The population in this study were eight grade students of Mts Muhammadiyah 22 Padangsidimpuan as the sample. The total number of students in the eighth grade is 23 students. The technique of collecting data using multiple choice can be seen from the increase in students’ abilities from the result of the pretest to the posttest. The last data showed average score of 3.47 % of the 15 students exceeded the KKM. The latest data show the students gave met or exceeded the KKM achievement target of 30 %. Based on the data, it could be concluded that using story mapping in teaching narrative text can improving the students’ understanding of narrative text.

Abstract

The formulation of the problem in this study is: is there any application of the jigsaw cooperative learning model to the ability to criticize short stories for class XI MAN 4 Mandailing Natal students? The goal to be achieved in this study is to prove whether there is an application of the jigsaw cooperative learning model to the ability to criticize short stories of class XI MAN 4 Mandailing Natal. controlled by using the product moment correlation formula. In the calculations that have been done, it is obtained that the price is rcount> rtable or 0.031773> 0.0301. So thus the author can conclude that there is an application of the jigsaw cooperative learning model to the ability to criticize short stories for class XI MAN 4 Mandailing Natal students.

Abstract

This research aimed to know the effect of using Estafet Writing Technique on writing Recount Text at grade X Students of SMA Swasta Harapan Padangsidimpuan. In this research, the researcher used one-group pretest-posttest design, there was not control group. The researcher gave pre-test to student, then, researcher gave the students’ treatment about writing Recount Text with Estafet Writing Technique. After treatment is given, researcher gives the student post-test. The population in this research were the students of SMA Swasta Harapan Padangsidimpuan. The researcher used purposive sampling were takes class of X IPA 1 as the sample of this research. The total of students in this class was 23 students. The score of students' before using Estafet Writing Technique was 56.04 and it was categorized "fair". While the mean score of student's after using Estafet Writing Technique was 78.91 and it was categorized "good". The result of both t-test was 14.350 and t-table was 1.717, it means that there is an effect of using Estafet Writing Technique on Writing Recount Text at Grade X Students of SMA Swasta Harapan Padangsidimpuan.

Abstract

This study was aimed to find out the Speaking Problem at the Grade XI SMK Negeri Pertanian Pembangunan Tapanuli Selatan. The objective of this research is to find out students’ problems in learning English speaking skill. The design of the research is by using descriptive qualitative method. The subject of this research is the students’ of grade XI SMK Negeri Pertanian Pembangunan Tapanuli Selatan.The data of this research were collected by using test, observation, interview, and documentation. From the finding and discussion, the students have problem in speaking. The problems were consisted of grammar, shyness, vocabulary and meaning, pronunciation, lack of confident, fear of making mistake, and anxiety. From the problems the dominantly problems is pronunciation. Most of them stated that they afraid speak because they do not know how many vocabulary and to pronounce the words. They were afraid if they made a mistake in term of pronouncing the words and using the vocabulary.

Abstract

Penelitian ini berusaha untuk meningkatkan prestasi siswa dalam kosa kata dengan menggunakan Realia. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode penelitian tindakan kelas. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas VII-4 SMP Negeri 9 Padangsidimpuan yang berjumlah 24 siswa. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dalam dua siklus, siklus I terdiri dari dua pertemuan dan siklus II terdiri dari satu pertemuan. Instrumen pengumpulan data menggunakan tes kosakata dan lembar angket untuk data kualitativ. Berdasarkan tes kosa kata, nilai siswa terus meningkat di setiap tes dan berdasarkan lembar angket ditemukan bahwa proses belajar-mengajar berjalan dengan baik. Siswa aktif, antusias, dan tertarik pada kosa kata. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Realia secara signifikan meningkatkan prestasi belajar kosakata siswa

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness and significance of using English songs to improve the listening skills of class VIII-1 students of MTs Muhammadiyah 8 Siabu. The method in this research is the quantitative method. The subjects of this study were students of class VIII-1 MTs Muhammadiyah 8 Siabu. The sample of this study amounted to 20 students. The instruments used in this study were pre-test, treatment, post-test and interviews. The results of this study indicate that the use of English songs from YouTube is effective in improving students' listening skills. This can be seen from the results of the study showing that the average score of students' listening skills before using English songs from YouTube skills after using English songs from YouTube is 66.25 and is categorized as "good". Based on data analysis, the t-test value is higher than the table t-test (8.750>2.09), meaning that there is a significant difference. Therefore Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted, it can be said that the use of English songs is effective from YouTube in the teaching and learning process and can improve students' listening skills

Abstract

This research aimed to know the effectiveness of using YouTube in improving students' writing ability of Descriptive Text at the grade X of SMA Negeri 1 Angkola Barat. In this research, the researcher used one-group pretest-posttest design, there was not control group. The researcher gave pre-test to student, then, researcher gave the students’ treatment about writing Descriptive Text with video from YouTube. After treatment is given, researcher gives the student post-test. The population in this research were the students of SMA Negeri 1 Angkola Barat. The researcher used random sampling were takes class of X MIPA 2 as the sample of this research. The total of students in this class was 34 students. The score of students' before using YouTube media was 63.52 and it was categorized "fair". While the mean score of student's after using YouTube media was 76.26 and it was categorized "good". The result of both t-test was 12.513 and t-table was 1.692, it can be concluded that the used of YouTube in process learning teaching is effective and can improve students' writing ability of Descriptive Text.
