Abstract

Research Problem: Anxiety is one of the psychological factors that can affect the performance of athletes during a match, including in futsal. Research Objective: This study aimed to analyse the anxiety level of male futsal athletes of the Semarang State University Student Activity Unit before competing. Method: This study uses descriptive quantitative methods through surveys. The study used 25 samples of male futsal athletes selected by total sampling. Data were collected using the Sport Competition Anxiety Test (SCAT), containing 15 questions.  Results: The results showed that 11 athletes (44%) had low levels of anxiety, while 14 athletes (56%) had moderate levels of anxiety. None of the athletes were included in the high anxiety category. Conclusion: Based on the findings, it can be concluded that anxiety is a significant psychological factor influencing the performance of futsal athletes. Moderate levels of anxiety can have a positive impact by enhancing focus, alertness, and mental readiness in high-pressure situations. In contrast, excessive anxiety negatively affects motor skills, concentration, and decision-making, ultimately reducing overall performance quality. Therefore, appropriate psychological interventions, such as stress management training and relaxation techniques, are essential to help athletes effectively manage anxiety and maintain optimal performance during competition.

Abstract

Research Problems: The lack of literature studies on traditional meong-meongan sports games, such as books in educational units, is the root of this research problem and the lack of preservation of traditional sports. Research Objectives: Describes an ethnographic study of the traditional sports game meong-meongan that takes place in the Tenganan Pegringsingan Traditional Village, Karangasem Regency. Methods: This qualitative research uses an ethnographic approach. Data were collected through observation, interview, and documentation techniques. With the sample, namely Kelian Adat and Village Head of Tenganan Pegringsingan Traditional Village, Karangasem Regency Cultural Office Employees, Chairperson of Portina Bali, and PJOK Teacher of SD Negeri 1 Tenganan.   Observation was carried out to find out whether it was true that the traditional sports game meong-meongan originated from the Tenganan Pegringsingan Traditional Village, Karangasem Regency. Documentation was carried out to document photos and videos during interviews and as evidence of having conducted interviews. Data analysis was carried out through several stages, namely data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Results: The research showed that although all five interviewees were familiar with the traditional game meong-meongan, most students did not know about it when it was introduced at school. This indicates that the game is almost unknown among the younger generation, due to a lack of supporting literature and minimal efforts to socialise the game. Conclusion: The findings of this research are that the traditional sports game meong-meongan contains noble cultural values, including elements of education, cooperation, and local wisdom that have been passed down from generation to generation. However, modernisation and a lack of regeneration in the community led to a significant decline in the practice of this game. This research aims to reintroduce the traditional sports game meong-meongan to the younger generation, to preserve the cultural heritage.

Abstract

Research Problems: Parental involvement is a crucial factor in supporting the development and achievement of athletes, including those in Taekwondo. Parents’ support, in the form of motivation, accompaniment, and facilities, plays an important role in shaping athletes’ confidence and performance. However, the level of involvement often varies, making it necessary to investigate further the role of parents in the process of fostering athletic achievement. Research Objectives: This study aims to describe the forms of parental involvement in supporting the improvement of Taekwondo athletes’ performance. Methods: The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach with participants consisting of coaches, athletes, and parents from the Koryo Club and Lembah Cobra Taekwondo Dojangs in Pekalongan Regency. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, using interview guidelines, observation sheets, and supporting documents as instruments. Data were analysed using source and method triangulation to ensure validity and provide a comprehensive understanding. Results: The findings indicate that parental involvement manifests in four main aspects: motivational (encouragement, praise, and support during failure), logistical (providing facilities and training needs), emotional (accompanying athletes during training and competitions), and educational (family communication regarding the athlete’s development). This involvement positively contributes to athletes’ motivation, confidence, and achievement. Conclusion: Parental involvement plays a significant role in enhancing Taekwondo athletes’ performance. Comprehensive parental support not only strengthens children’s motivation but also creates a more conducive environment for athletic development.

Abstract

Research Problems: Low mastery of basic volleyball techniques in physical education classes—caused by using conventional learning methods that tend to be passive—is a major problem, requiring the application of innovative and participatory learning models such as the Cooperative Type Jigsaw to maximize student learning outcomes. Research Objectives: This study aims to improve learning outcomes in physical education on basic volleyball techniques—which were previously low due to conventional methods—by applying the Cooperative Jigsaw Learning Model, and the results show that this model is effective in improving students' mastery of the material. Methods: This study used the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method, which was carried out in two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four main stages, namely: action planning, action implementation, observation/evaluation of actions, and reflection on actions. The research subjects were 22 students of Class XI of Muhammadiyah 2 Singaraja High School in the 2024/2025 academic year. Results: The results of this study indicate that there was a significant increase in student learning outcomes, particularly in the basic techniques of underhand and overhand passing in volleyball. This improvement was clear from the increase in the average scores obtained by students during the study. This was supported by an increase in the learning completion rate from 54.54% in Cycle I to 81.81% in Cycle II. Conclusion: The implementation of the Cooperative Type Jigsaw Learning Model has proven to be effective in improving learning outcomes in physical education, particularly in mastering underhand and overhand passing techniques, for students in Grade XI at Muhammadiyah 2 Singaraja High School in the 2024/2025 academic year.

Abstract

Background of the Problem: Anxiety is one of the psychological factors that athletes often experience, both before and during the game. Anxiety levels can affect focus, self-control, and decision-making in competition. Research Objectives: This study aims to determine the relationship between anxiety levels before and during matches and the performance of pencak silat athletes at Tapak Suci Cikidang Club. Methods: This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational method. The sample amounted to 25 athletes who participated in the Mini Event 2 championship and were selected using the purposive sampling technique. The research instruments included pre-match anxiety questionnaires, post-match anxiety, and athletes' performance measured using a Likert scale of 1-4. Results: The results of the Pearson correlation test showed that there was no significant relationship between pre-competition anxiety and athlete performance (r = -0.182; p = 0.384 > 0.05), and anxiety during competition with athlete performance (r = -0.075; p = 0.721 > 0.05). The multiple linear regression test showed a simultaneous significant value of p = 0.638 (> 0.05), which means that there was no significant effect of the two forms of anxiety on athletes' performance simultaneously. Conclusion: These findings indicate that anxiety, both before and during the match, was not the dominant factor influencing the performance of pencak silat athletes in the context of this study. The results suggest that coaches place more emphasis on confidence development, relaxation techniques, and simulation of competing conditions to support athletes' optimal performance, as well as a reference for future research to reach a wider population and consider other variables.
