Abstract

Abstract

In Toraget Village, Minahasa, the ‘Padakanan’ hot springs serve as a vital center for communal life, yet its potential theological meaning remains unexplored. A gap exists between the communal physical practice around the hot springs and its theological interpretation as "Living Water". This research aims to bridge this gap by constructing a contextual theology through a comparative-thematic analysis of the practices at ‘Padakanan’ and the narrative of Jesus's encounter with the Samaritan woman (John 4:1-14). Using a qualitative method with a contextual theology approach, this study collected data through observation, interviews, and biblical exegesis. The analysis found four main points of convergence: (1) The water at ‘Padakanan’ as a gift of creation becomes a metaphor for "Living Water" as the gift of salvation. The space of ‘Padakanan’ as a communal hub reflects the potential for a transformative space of encounter that transcends social boundaries; (2) The physical purification process at ‘Padakanan’ symbolizes the spiritual purification process from sin towards restoration in Christ. (3) The vital role of women as community agents at ‘Padakanan’ is theologically affirmed by the Samaritan woman's role as a gospel evangelist. This study concludes that ‘Padakanan’ can be interpreted as a "natural sacrament" that offers pastoral and missiological implications for the church to develop a ministry rooted in the local cultural context.

Abstract

The advancement of information and communication technology has brought about significant transformations in social interaction patterns, including in the practice of Christian faith proclamation. Generation Z, as a digital-native generation, shows a strong preference for social media as the main medium for receiving information and forming religious identity. This study aims to examine digital evangelization strategies that are contextual and adaptive to the characteristics and socio-cultural dynamics of this generation. With a descriptive-qualitative approach based on literature studies, this paper highlights the importance of integrating theological values with creative and relational digital communication methods. Evangelization in the digital era is not only about the distribution of messages of faith, but also demands authentic and dialogical involvement in cyberspace. Therefore, contextual strategies are urgent in bridging the proclamation of the Gospel with the digital reality of generation Z.

Abstract

This article reexamines the meaning of God's mission in digital culture. Its aim is to formulate a new understanding of mission that is relevant in the digital age, where technology is transforming how people interact and practice religion. This qualitative research utilizes literature studies and data from various sources, including observation. The results indicate that digitalization opens up opportunities for the church through instant connectivity, active participation, and user-generated content. However, challenges such as information overload and superficial spirituality also arise. The church must adapt, transforming its mission through the digitalization of evangelism, diakonia, koinonia, and martyria, as well as improving digital literacy and digital theology to maintain the integrity of faith. In conclusion, the church must leverage the digital space as a new, adaptive, and inclusive mission field, grounded in the teachings of Jesus Christ. .

Abstract

The doctrine of the Holy Spirit is a central component of Christian theology, yet in contemporary church life it often suffers from a diminished role and lack of holistic application. Today’s churches face various pneumatological issues, including the reduction of the Holy Spirit to a mystical force, imbalance between doctrinal formulation and spiritual experience, and the lack of integration between the Spirit’s work and communal life. This study aims to evaluate and reconstruct the doctrine of the Holy Spirit systematically and constructively, making it more contextual and relevant for the modern church. Using a qualitative theological method through library research, this study employs both systematic theology and constructive theology approaches. It critically engages with the theological insights of Joas Adiprasetya, John Frame, Wolfhart Pannenberg, Vera Loupatty, and Wayne Grudem. The analysis reveals tensions between dogmatic and charismatic approaches, as well as a detachment of the Spirit’s work from the Trinitarian framework—factors that contribute to the weakened pneumatological awareness in the church. As a constructive response, this study proposes a renewed formulation of the Holy Spirit doctrine that emphasizes the Spirit’s role within Trinitarian and communal relationships, as the sustainer of church life and agent of God’s mission, and as a bridge between doctrine, spirituality, and social praxis. It also underlines the need for a contextual and pastoral pneumatological language. Thus, the doctrine of the Holy Spirit can be lived out as a dynamic, reflective, and transformative reality for the church in today’s world.

Abstract

This article examines the theological meaning and missiological significance of the Fourfold Gospel symbols developed by Albert Benjamin Simpson—Jesus as Saviour, Sanctifier, Healer, and Coming King. Employing a literature-based approach and content analysis, this study explores the theological foundations of these symbols and their application within a holistic global mission framework. The findings indicate that the Fourfold Gospel is not merely a doctrinal formulation but a ministry paradigm that integrally addresses spiritual, social, and eschatological dimensions. Simpson’s thought proves to be highly relevant in responding to the contemporary multidimensional crises and offers a contextual and transformative model of proclamation. Accordingly, these symbols remain profoundly pertinent for today’s Church in cultivating ministries that empower both individuals and communities in a comprehensive manner.
