Abstract

Diabetes is a metabolic disorder characterized by increased blood glucose levels due to impaired insulin production, insulin function, or a combination of both. To date, no cure exists for the disease; current efforts focus on controlling blood glucose levels, one of which is through dietary management. The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) projects that among the top 10 countries with the highest number of diabetes cases, China, India, and the United States occupy the top three positions. Indonesia ranks seventh, with 10.7 million individuals diagnosed with diabetes. It is further estimated that by 2030, the global number of diabetes mellitus cases will increase to 678 million. This underscores Indonesia's significant contribution to the prevalence of diabetes cases in Southeast Asia. A diabetes mellitus diet is specifically designed to help patients achieve and maintain normal blood glucose levels. This study aimed to analyze dietary compliance and its impact on blood glucose level changes in diabetes mellitus patients. A qualitative descriptive research method was employed, conducted at Kenten Permai Public Health Center, Palembang. The qualitative data analysis was inductive, leading to hypothesis development. The study involved three diabetes mellitus patients as informants and one expert informant, a nutritionist. The findings revealed that one respondent was fully compliant with the diet, one was partially compliant, and one was non-compliant. Respondent D, who adhered to the schedule but not the portion sizes or food types, showed a reduction in blood glucose levels from 186 mg/dL to 160 mg/dL. Respondent R, who fully complied with portion sizes, food types, and meal timings, experienced a decrease from 213 mg/dL to 136 mg/dL. Meanwhile, respondent Y, who was less compliant, exhibited only a slight reduction, from 328 mg/dL to 298 mg/dL. All respondents demonstrated awareness of the diabetes mellitus diet and had started implementing it in their daily lives.

Abstract

Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) is a contagious infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, primarily affecting the lungs but also capable of attacking other organs in the body. A common symptom experienced by TB patients is shortness of breath, increased respiratory rate, and reduced oxygen saturation levels. One nursing intervention that can be applied is the pursed lips breathing technique. This technique involves two main mechanisms: a strong, deep inhalation and an active, prolonged exhalation, with the primary goal of increasing oxygen saturation in the patient’s body. The aim of this case study is to analyze the nursing care provided to a pulmonary tuberculosis patient at the Umar Bin Khatab 1 treatment room, employing the pursed lips breathing technique. The descriptive-analytical method was used in this case study, focusing on nursing assessment, diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation, following an Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) approach. The results of the case study show that the pursed lips breathing technique effectively alleviated the patient’s shortness of breath, improved breathing frequency, and increased oxygen saturation. The study recommends that the pursed lips breathing technique be used as a nursing intervention for patients with ineffective breathing patterns.

Abstract

Stroke infarction is a condition caused by an interruption in blood supply to the brain due to blockage, leading to loss of motor and sensory functions. This results in limb weakness, which impacts daily activities. Mirror therapy is a rehabilitative intervention involving the neuronal system to improve muscle strength in stroke patients with limb weakness. This study aims to evaluate the application of mirror therapy as a nursing intervention to enhance muscle strength in infarction stroke patients. Using a case study approach, data were collected through anamnesis, observation, physical examination, and medical records. Four nursing problems were identified: physical mobility disorders, verbal communication disorders, self-care deficits, and risk of falling. Mirror therapy was employed as the primary intervention for physical mobility disorders. Despite four days of therapy at a frequency of once per day, no significant improvement in muscle strength was observed in the patient with hemiparesis due to infarction stroke. It is recommended that mirror therapy be implemented over a longer duration and frequency for optimal results in nursing practice

Abstract

Hypertension, characterized by elevated blood pressure, is a prevalent cardiovascular disorder influenced by genetic, lifestyle, and socio-cultural factors. Effective management, including non-pharmacological interventions like warm water foot soaking therapy, is crucial to prevent complications. This case study details the nursing care provided to Mrs. N, a geriatric patient with hypertension, using warm water soaking therapy at Tarogong Health Center. A qualitative descriptive method was used to analyze the nursing process, covering assessment, diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The study identified three nursing problems: chronic pain, sleep pattern disturbance, and risk of falls. Warm water foot soaking therapy was implemented based on Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) to alleviate pain and improve peripheral circulation. Following three days of therapy, Mrs. N's blood pressure decreased. This study highlights the potential of warm water foot soaking therapy as a beneficial nursing intervention for managing hypertension in geriatric patients.

Abstract

The elderly are a population group aged 60 years or older. An elderly person usually experiences several changes, namely physical, mental, social, and spiritual changes. Osteoarthritis (OA) is a long-term chronic disease characterized by the degeneration of joint cartilage, which causes bones to rub against each other and triggers stiffness, pain, and disturbances in daily movements. The complications that arise depend on the location of the joint experiencing OA and how the repair process occurs during therapy. Treatment to reduce the pain experienced can be done by non-pharmacological methods, such as red ginger warm compress therapy. Purpose: This case study aims to provide an overview of the application of red ginger warm compress therapy as an intervention for osteoarthritis patients with musculoskeletal system disorders. Method: The method used is a descriptive case study by conducting anamnesis, observation, physical examination, and medical record reviews, as well as analyzing the theoretical and practical aspects of nursing care provided based on evidence-based practice (EBP). Participants in this study were osteoarthritis patients who received warm red ginger compress therapy. Results: The results of a case study on osteoarthritis patients with chronic pain nursing problems showed that these problems could be overcome by performing red ginger warm compress therapy. This was indicated by the client experiencing a decrease in the pain scale. Therefore, red ginger warm compress therapy has been empirically proven as a chronic pain intervention for osteoarthritis patients in the Kenanga Griya Elderly Room, Garut Regency. Thus, it can be concluded that warm red ginger compress therapy has an effect on pain in osteoarthritis patients in the Kenanga Griya Elderly Room, Garut Regency. Conclusion: Red ginger warm compress therapy can be applied in providing nursing care to the elderly with osteoarthritis because it is effective in reducing pain.

Abstract

The prevalence of diseases in the elderly increases with age due to declining body functions, including blood vessel function, leading to conditions like hypertension. Hypertension, characterized by systolic blood pressure over 140 mmHg and diastolic over 90 mmHg, is a major risk factor for kidney failure, heart failure, and stroke. This case study examines nursing care with slow stroke back massage (SSBM) therapy as an intervention to reduce blood pressure in elderly hypertensive patients. A descriptive case study approach was used, involving nursing assessment, diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation. The subject was an elderly patient, Mrs. P, at the Garut Elderly Home Service Unit. The interventions, particularly slow stroke back massage, effectively addressed the patient's discomfort and sleep pattern disturbances. The risk of decreased cardiac output and falls were partially resolved. The sustained management of hypertension requires a longer timeframe for optimal control of blood pressure. Slow stroke back massage significantly impacts lowering blood pressure in patients with hypertension and is recommended as a beneficial therapy
