Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of the dependency ratio, Human Development Index (HDI), and Labor Force Participation Rate (LFPR) on economic growth in West Sumatra Province. Secondary data were obtained from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) covering 19 districts/cities in 2020–2024. The analysis used multiple linear regression based on panel data with a random effects model as the best model. The results show that the dependency ratio and HDI have a significant positive effect on economic growth, while the LFPR has a positive but insignificant effect. The results of this study identify that demographic structure and improvements in population quality have contributed to economic growth, but the potential workforce has not been fully absorbed. Therefore, policies are needed that can optimize workforce absorption through improving skills, education, and creating jobs that are in line with the economic needs of West Sumatra Province.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors that influence carbon emissions in the ASEAN region with Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) as a moderating variable. The independent variables used include energy consumption, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and political corruption levels. Panel data were collected from 10 ASEAN countries over the period 2013–2022 and analyzed using multiple linear regression and moderation regression. The results indicate that energy consumption, ICT and FDI have a positive and significant effect on carbon emissions, while GDP per capita and corruption have a negative and significant effect. Interaction tests revealed that the ICT x FDI variable has a positive and significant effect on carbon emissions, but the interactions between GDP x FDI, energy consumption x FDI, and corruption x FDI are not significantly influential.

Abstract

Abstract

Wages for workers in the informal sector are generally lower than those in the formal sector, and the gender wage gap exacerbates this condition. This quantitative study analyzes the gender wage gap in Indonesia’s informal sector using variables such as education, work experience, training, region of residence, marital status, and gender as a moderating factor. Data from the 2020 National Labor Force Survey (SAKERNAS) were analyzed using Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression, robust regression, and the Blinder–Oaxaca decomposition. The results show that all variables have a significant effect on wages, while the Blinder–Oaxaca analysis reveals that the gap primarily stems from unexplained factors, which reflect gender discrimination. This study emphasizes the need for policies to improve access to education, training, and protection for female workers to reduce the gender wage gap in the informal sector.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the efficiency of government social spending in the education, health, and economic sectors and its impact on human development in Indonesia by employing the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method and Tobit regression to examine the influence of external factors on efficiency. The findings reveal that the efficiency of government social spending varies across provinces, with most provinces recording high efficiency in the education and health sectors, while the economic sector still faces efficiency challenges. Population growth rate and land area were found to have a negative effect on efficiency, as rapid population growth and large territorial size create obstacles in resource allocation and distribution. Conversely, foreign direct investment (FDI) has a positive and significant effect on efficiency in all sectors.

Abstract

Commuter and circular labor mobility emerged as a labor adjustment measure in response to the weak economic base in the area of residence in the employment of all residents, in the wage differentials and in the spatial distribution of economic activities. This research aims to see the influence of commuter and circular workforce mobility in West Sumatra Province. This research employs multinomial logistic regression analysis by using data from SAKERNAS 2020. The results of this study indicate that the employment sector, gender and income level have a significant influence on the mobility of commuter and circular labor in West Sumatra Province. Marital status has an insignificant influence on the mobility of commuter and circular labor in West Sumatra Province. Age has an insignificant influence on the mobility of commuter labor and a positive and significant influence on the mobility of circular labor in West Sumatra Province. Education level has a positive and significant influence on the mobility of commuter labor and a negative and insignificant influence on the mobility of circular labor in West Sumatra Province. Area of residence has a negative and significant influence on the mobility of commuter and circular labor.

The data used in this research are time series data covering the period from 1988 to 2023. This is a quantitative study employing the Error Correction Model (ECM). The findings reveal that: (1) In the long run, government expenditure, tax revenue, and gross domestic product have a negative and significant effect on the open unemployment rate in Indonesia. (2) In the short run, tax revenue and gross domestic product have a negative and significant effect on the open unemployment rate in Indonesia, while government expenditure has no significant effect on the open unemployment rate.
