Abstract

This study aims to analyze the characteristics of Competency Test questions in the book of Islamic Cultural History (SKI) grade IX Madrasah Tsanawiyah Curriculum 2013 reviewed from a cognitive level based on the revised Bloom taxonomy. This study uses a qualitative approach with a documentation study method. The research data is in the form of all Competency Test questions contained in the SKI class IX book, which consists of 70 multiple-choice questions and 35 description questions spread across seven chapters. The data analysis technique was carried out by classifying each question item into cognitive levels C1–C6, then grouping the questions into the categories of Lower Order Thinking Skills (LOTS), Middle Order Thinking Skills (MOTS), and Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). The results of the study showed that the question items in the SKI class IX book were dominated by questions at the cognitive level C1 (remembering) and C2 (understanding). Some of the questions have reached the HOTS level, especially at the C4 level (analyzing) to C6 (creating), but the number is still relatively limited and not evenly distributed in each chapter. These findings indicate that the quality of the Competency Test questions in the book still needs to be improved, especially in the development of questions that encourage students' high-level thinking skills. Therefore, efforts are needed to improve and enrich the preparation of question items to be more in line with the demands of 21st century learning and to strengthen students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Analysis of the items in the Aqidah Akhlak Class IX book is an effort to improve the quality of education through evaluation, given the urgency of evaluating learning as a benchmark for student success, it is necessary to have an analysis that can later improve the quality. In learning evaluation, we are familiar with the terms HOTS, MOTS, and LOTS questions. In a question formulation, of course there must be accuracy in making it, both context, level of difficulty, KKO, and others. The purpose of the analysis of the items in the class IX Mts Aqidah Akhlak subject can later become an analysis that can improve the quality of the next questions. The inadequacy of the questions in the subject book will make the level of a child's thinking ability less developed.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the quality of assessment items in the Grade X Islamic Theology and Ethics (Akidah Akhlak) textbook used in Indonesian Islamic senior high schools by analyzing their cognitive levels and classification into Lower Order Thinking Skills (LOTS), Middle Order Thinking Skills (MOTS), and Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). The study employed a qualitative descriptive research design with document analysis as the primary data collection technique. The units of analysis consisted of 45 essay-type questions distributed across four chapters of the textbook. The findings reveal a strong dominance of LOTS-oriented items, with 39 questions (88%) categorized as LOTS, while only 3 questions (6%) reflected MOTS and 3 questions (6%) met the criteria for HOTS. In terms of cognitive level, most items were concentrated at the C2 (understanding) level, indicating limited opportunities for students to engage in analytical, evaluative, or creative thinking processes. These results suggest that the assessment items in the analyzed textbook have not yet adequately aligned with contemporary curriculum demands that emphasize higher-order thinking and 21st-century skills. The predominance of low-level cognitive questions may constrain students’ critical thinking development and reduce the effectiveness of assessment in Islamic education. Therefore, teachers, textbook authors, and curriculum developers are encouraged to redesign assessment tasks by incorporating more HOTS-oriented items to enhance cognitive challenge, pedagogical quality, and alignment with modern educational standards in Islamic senior high schools.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the application of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model and analyze the improvement in student learning outcomes on the material “Let's Learn the Qur'an Surah at-Tin” in grade V of SD Negeri 004 Sedarat Baru. The method used was Classroom Action Research (CAR) based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, which was carried out in three cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The research subjects included 12 fifth-grade students (7 boys and 5 girls). Data were collected through observation and learning outcome tests at the end of each cycle. The results showed that the application of the PBL model significantly improved students' memorization skills. This was evidenced by an increase in the percentage of student learning completeness (KKM) from 25% in the pre-cycle stage to 42% in cycle I, increasing to 67% in cycle II, and reaching 92% at the end of cycle III. The implications of this study indicate that the PBL model is effective in increasing student activity and cognitive achievement in Islamic Religious Education and Ethics subjects, so that it can be used as a reference for teachers in developing teaching variations in the classroom.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the learning interest of second-grade elementary students in the topic of the story of Prophet Nuh (A.S.) within Islamic Religious Education through the use of audio-visual media in the form of video. The research was conducted at an elementary school in Natuna Regency using a Classroom Action Research approach implemented in two cycles. The participants were second-grade students enrolled in Islamic Religious Education classes. Data were collected through classroom observations of students' learning interest and participation, as well as questionnaires administered at the end of each cycle. The data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative techniques supported by qualitative reflective analysis to identify changes in students' learning interest throughout the intervention. The findings indicate a consistent improvement in students' learning interest across the cycles, as reflected in increased attention, engagement, and active participation during the learning process. The use of audio-visual media enabled the prophetic narrative to be presented in a more concrete and engaging manner, which aligned with the learning characteristics of elementary school students. Pedagogically, this study provides empirical evidence that integrating audio-visual media into Islamic Religious Education can effectively enhance students' learning interest in narrative-based religious content and offers an innovative instructional strategy for improving the quality of Islamic education at the elementary level.

Abstract

This study aims to improve students’ learning outcomes in Islamic Religious Education (IRE), particularly in developing understanding and moral awareness of Asmaul Husna (the Beautiful Names of Allah), through the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model. The research was conducted using a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach, emphasizing collaborative learning and reflective cycles of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The participants consisted of fourth-grade students at SDN 005 Cemaga Selatan, Natuna Regency, Indonesia. Data were collected using tests, observation sheets, and documentation and analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. The findings indicate significant improvement in students’ cognitive and affective learning outcomes. The average test scores increased from 69.0 in the pre-cycle to 78.0 in Cycle I and 87.0 in Cycle II, while learning mastery improved from 60% to 100%. In addition, students demonstrated greater engagement, curiosity, and collaboration during classroom activities. The study concludes that the PBL model effectively enhances understanding and internalization of Islamic moral values by transforming the learning process from memorization-based to inquiry-based. It contributes to the ongoing discourse on integrating innovative pedagogies into Islamic education to promote holistic development encompassing faith, knowledge, and character (iman, ilmu, and akhlaq).

Abstract

This study investigates the application of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model to improve students’ learning outcomes in Islamic Education and Character at SDN 005 Cemaga Selatan. The research was motivated by low student engagement and achievement resulting from traditional, teacher-centered methods. PBL, as a student-centered approach, emphasizes active participation, collaboration, and critical thinking through real-world problem-solving. The study employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design conducted in two cycles, each involving planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Data were collected using observation sheets, learning outcome tests, and field notes, and analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively. The findings indicate a significant improvement in students’ learning achievement and participation: the average score increased from 69.0 in the pre-cycle to 73.0 in Cycle I and 87.0 in Cycle II, with the mastery level improving from 60% to 100%. The results show that PBL not only enhances cognitive achievement but also fosters moral reasoning and reflective learning aligned with Islamic values. The study concludes that implementing PBL in Islamic Education contributes to meaningful learning experiences and moral development. Recommendations are provided for teachers and schools to integrate PBL principles into daily teaching practices to support holistic student growth.

Abstract

This study aims to improve student learning outcomes in Islamic Education—specifically in the topic Asmaul Husna—through the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model. The research was motivated by low achievement and limited engagement resulting from conventional teaching methods such as rote memorization and lecturing. Using a mixed-method Classroom Action Research (CAR) design, the study was conducted in two cycles involving planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The research subjects were fourth-grade students of SDN 005 Batubi Jaya, Natuna Regency. Data were collected using observation, documentation, and tests, then analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively. The results show a steady improvement in student achievement: average scores increased from 57% in the pre-cycle to 70% in Cycle I and 76% in Cycle II, while mastery learning rose from 57% to 76%. Moreover, students demonstrated higher motivation, cooperation, and understanding of the moral significance of Asmaul Husna. The findings suggest that the PBL model provides an effective framework for integrating cognitive mastery with affective and spiritual growth, transforming Islamic Education into a more participatory, reflective, and meaningful learning experience.

Abstract

The results of interviews and initial observations found that low learning outcomes in Islamic Religious Education subjects. This condition is caused by various factors, including factors from the environment, teachers and students themselves. This monotonous and less varied learning process makes students quickly feel bored. The lecture and question and answer model that has been used only makes a small proportion of students active. As a result, student learning outcomes are not optimal. The purpose of the study was to determine the effectiveness of the Discovery Learning model based on the Wordwall application on student learning outcomes in Islamic Religious Education subjects. The background of this research is based on the low student learning outcomes due to monotonous conventional learning methods, as well as the lack of student focus during the learning process. This research uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent control group design. The results of the analysis showed that there was a significant increase in the learning outcomes of experimental class students with an average posttest of 78.53 compared to the control class of 68.50. As well as the average N-Gain of the experimental class of 61.2% with the category “quite effective” compared to the control class of 40.1% with the category “less effective”.
