Abstract

In the digital era, social media has become an integral part of teenagers' lives, playing a significant role in shaping their behavior and cognitive abilities, particularly problem-solving skills. Research indicates that social media can have both positive and negative impacts on these abilities, depending on the quality of interactions and digital literacy. Further research is needed to deeply understand how social media use affects problem-solving skills and the role of digital literacy as a mediating variable that strengthens the relationship between social media use and problem-solving abilities in teenagers. This study employed a quantitative method using path analysis. The subjects were teenagers aged 15-18 living in Semarang City, with a sample of 369 students. The results show that social media significantly influences teenagers' digital literacy by 40%, but does not directly affect problem-solving skills. Instead, social media affects problem solving indirectly through digital literacy, with a total effect of 19.2%. Digital literacy itself has a significant impact of 23.1%, aiding teenagers in problem solving through skills in searching, evaluating, and managing digital information. These findings underscore the need to focus on digital literacy to optimize the positive impact of social media on teenagers' problem-solving skills.

Abstract

This study explores the role of peers in strengthening the interpersonal communication skills of 4th grade students at MI Nurul Iman. Interpersonal communication is a fundamental skill that enables children to express ideas, understand others, and engage in effective social interactions. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method involving 32 students and one homeroom teacher as participants. Data were collected through interviews and non-participant observation, analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. To ensure data reliability, the study applied data source and method triangulation. Research findings indicate that peers play an important role in strengthening interpersonal communication skills by providing support, feedback, interaction facilities, and behavioral models. Peer interactions also improve students' ability to convey messages, listen actively, empathize, communicate non-verbally, and build self-confidence. These skills are reinforced through students' daily communication contexts at school, such as group discussions, breaks, and seating arrangements among peers. The study highlights the strategic importance of leveraging peer dynamics to foster students' interpersonal communication and provides practical insights for educators to design socially interactive learning environments.

Abstract

The learning process in the 21st century required students to develop critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity skills, which must be supported by creative and innovative learning approaches and tools. This study aims to develop card-based spinning wheel media using the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) model, and to analyze the implementation of the media, students’ learning activities, and the practicality of the media. The media consisted of a physical spinning wheel equipped with six types of thematic question cards based on social studies aspects, namely: red cards (punishment), green cards (reward), yellow cards (economics), blue cards (history), purple cards (geography and civic education), and orange cards (sociology). This study employed a research and development (R&D) method using the ADDIE development model. During the media development process, the feasibility of the media was evaluated by content experts, media experts, and practitioners to ensure the quality and effectiveness of the developed product. The findings demonstrated that students’ learning activities on the topic of nationalistic values through the TGT model improved significantly. This was evidenced by classroom VIII students’ learning activity observation results, which reached 93.53% in the “very active” category. Student learning outcomes also met the minimum competency criteria, with an average score of 93.53%. Therefore, the findings indicated that the developement card-based spinning wheel media was both feasible and practical for use in social studies learning to enhance students’ learning activities.

Abstract

In a multicultural society, interaction between ethnic groups plays a crucial role in maintaining social cohesion. Schools, as a small representation of a diverse culture, play a strategic role in fostering social harmony among students from diverse cultural backgrounds. This study aims to describe and analyze patterns of social interaction between Malay and Javanese students in a multicultural school environment, particularly in a transmigration area. The primary focus of the study is patterns of social interaction, the factors that influence them, and the role of schools in fostering cross-cultural social integration. The research approach used was a qualitative case study design. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving students, teachers, and the principal. The results indicate that interactions between Malay and Javanese students still tend to be structured along ethnic lines. This pattern reflects a tendency toward exclusivity in social interactions. Factors such as differences in language and cultural habits, unequal participation in school activities, and the uneven implementation of inclusive policies contribute to limited cross-cultural interaction. Thus, education is expected to function not only as a means of recognising diversity, but also as a vehicle for fostering social harmony in the school environment.
