Abstract

Stunting is a public health problem that affects not only the physical growth of toddlers but also their cognitive development, susceptibility to infections, and the quality of human resources in the future. This issue is also found in the working area of Kaliwates Health Center, Jember Regency, where monitoring of child growth and development is still not optimal due to services being more focused on physical aspects, limited knowledge and skills among community health cadres, PAUD (early childhood education) teachers, and parents, as well as inadequate SDIDTK (Stimulation, Detection, and Early Intervention of Child Growth and Development) facilities. This community service activity aims to improve the quality of monitoring the growth and development of stunted toddlers through the development of a holistic integrative PAUD post. The implementation method consists of preparation, execution, and evaluation stages using a participatory approach, including discussions, consultations, workshops, training, hands-on practice using SDIDTK tools, as well as nutrition and sanitation education. Evaluation was conducted using pre-test and post-test on 30 participants, analyzed with a paired t-test. The results showed a significant improvement in participants’ knowledge and skills after the intervention, along with strengthened capacity of cadres, PAUD teachers, and parents, availability of SDIDTK tools, and improved coordination among posyandu (integrated health posts), PAUD, and Bina Keluarga Balita (family development program for toddlers) in delivering more integrated services. Therefore, the development of a holistic integrative PAUD post is effective in improving the quality of monitoring growth and development of stunted toddlers in the working area of Kaliwates Health Center

Regarding compliance, 85% of participants consumed iron tablet once per week, while 15% did not consumed them at all. These finding incicate that the intervention was effective in improving knowledge, however adherence to iron supplementation remain suboptimal. Therefore, continuous monitoring and evaluation are necessary to improve compliance. Abstract

Early childhood is highly vulnerable to health issues like diarrhea and infections due to poor implementation of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS). This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge, attitudes, and skills of preschool children in Kertosari Village, Jember, specifically in mastering proper handwashing and tooth-brushing techniques. The method employed interactive counseling combined with direct demonstrations using dental phantoms and educational brochures to accommodate the concrete learning characteristics of children. The program involved 20 children under the age of seven accompanied by their parents. The results indicated that while initial knowledge was low, the children demonstrated high enthusiasm and were able to correctly practice the six-step handwashing method and proper tooth-brushing after the intervention. Evaluation through parent questionnaires showed high satisfaction, confirming that the play-based demonstration method is effective for this age group. In conclusion, this activity successfully established a foundation for independent healthy habits in children, which is essential for long-term health quality. Continued implementation with diverse health topics is recommended to ensure sustainable behavioral change

Abstract

Anemia in the community, especially among the elderly and women, remains a significant health problem and is often undetected due to low awareness and limited health screening. This community service activity aimed to improve knowledge and promote early detection of anemia through health education and hemoglobin (Hb) examination. The method included interactive educational sessions on anemia, covering its definition, causes, symptoms, prevention, and management, followed by Hb screening using a portable device and brief counseling. A total of 35 participants were involved in this activity. The results showed an increase in participants’ knowledge after the education session. Hb examination revealed that 68.6% of participants had normal Hb levels, while 31.4% were identified as having low Hb levels or being at risk of anemia. Participants with low Hb received counseling and were advised to seek further medical examination. This activity demonstrated that the combination of education and Hb screening is effective in increasing awareness, improving knowledge, and detecting anemia early in the community. Therefore, similar programs are recommended to be conducted regularly to enhance public health outcomes and prevent anemia-related complications

Abstract

Pregnancy is a physiological process that requires the mother's physical and psychological preparation for a healthy and safe birth. Lack of physical activity during pregnancy can increase the risk of discomfort and complications during labor. One promotion and prevention initiative that can be implemented is community-based prenatal exercise. This community service activity aims to increase pregnant women's knowledge and participation in maintaining a healthy pregnancy through an innovative community-based prenatal exercise program in Sukojember village, Jelbuk district, Jember regency. The activity's methods include health education, prenatal exercise demonstrations, and practical exercises. The target group consisted of 15 pregnant women in their second and third trimesters. The evaluation was conducted through observation and a question-and-answer session before and after the activity. The results showed an increase in pregnant women's knowledge of the benefits of prenatal exercise and increased participation in health activities. Community-based prenatal exercise is an effective way to educate and empower the community to achieve healthy pregnancies. It is hoped that this activity can be continued regularly through collaboration with village midwives and health workers.

Abstract

Vaccine hesitancy is the delay in acceptance or refusal of vaccines despite the availability of vaccines and evidence supporting their effectiveness. This is a complex problem influenced by various factors, not merely the inability to access vaccines. A persuasive approach is a relaxed and communicative method of communication that prioritizes psychological aspects, awareness, and building trust to achieve mutual agreement voluntarily. The purpose of this activity is to increase immunization coverage by reducing public vaccine hesitancy through education on AEFI (Adverse Events Following Immunization) risk management, so that parents have an understanding and practical skills to independently and confidently handle post-vaccination reactions. The methodology includes situation analysis and planning, implementation through risk management education of AEFI, and evaluation. Evaluation is conducted by assessing participants’ understanding the procedures for handling AEFI at home, measuring the level of parents' anxiety about the vaccine through a short questionnaire to see if they feel more confident (self-efficacy) in facing AEFI risks.

Abstract

Vector-borne diseases remain a public health concern closely related to environmental conditions and community behavior. Limited public awareness regarding environmental management and disease prevention contributes to the persistence of vector breeding sites. This community service activity aimed to increase public understanding and awareness of vector-borne disease prevention through health socialization, basic health screening, and environmental control education. The activity was conducted in Wayakrui Village, Banyumas Subdistrict, Pringsewu Regency, using a participatory and promotive–preventive approach. The methods included health education sessions, basic health screening through blood pressure measurement, and distribution of larvicide (abate) accompanied by education on proper use. The results showed positive community participation and engagement during the activities, reflected in active discussions, interest in environmental risk factors, and improved understanding of vector control measures. The integration of health education and basic health services supported effective communication and increased community awareness regarding disease prevention. In conclusion, community-based health socialization combined with basic health screening can support efforts to improve public awareness and understanding of vector-borne disease prevention and environmental health management.

Abstract

Hypertension remains a major public health problem in Jenggawah Village, where many adults and older people still have limited knowledge of its prevention and nonpharmacological management. This community outreach initiative was designed to enhance public awareness regarding hypertension while demonstrating the use of processed cucumber and celery as an auxiliary method for managing blood pressure. The program was implemented through health education, interactive discussion, hands-on demonstrations of cucumber and celery preparation, question-and-answer sessions, and health screening, with pre-test and post-test questionnaires used to evaluate knowledge changes. The results showed a clear improvement in participants’ understanding after the intervention, as more respondents moved from low and moderate knowledge categories to good and very good categories. The activity also increased community awareness of healthy lifestyle practices and the use of local plant-based resources as complementary support in hypertension management. In conclusion, this educational and practical approach was effective in strengthening knowledge and promoting preventive health behavior in the community
