Abstract

This research was aimed at finding out the influence of constructivism learning on: (1) the increase in concept understanding, and (2) the increase in science process skill of PGSD students. The research method applied was classroom action research. The research is conducted in three cycles and each cycle comprises planning, action imple-mentation, observation, and reflecting/evaluation. The subject of this research is the third semester of PGSD students of FKIP UNS, consisting of 42 students. The length of the research is six months from July to December 2008. Based on the analysis, it can be concluded that constructivism learning can increase the third semester students of PGSD dealing with (1) science concepts understanding and (2) science process skills.

Abstract

The aims of this research are to know how to design and how to implement cooperative learning model, Team Assisted Individualization (TAI) through contextual approach in enhancing student's learning achievement of Economic Mathematics course on Economic Education Program FKIP UNS in academic year 2009/2010. Subjects were students attending Economic Mathematics course in the first semester. Data were collected in the form of information about student's learning outcomes including the scores of exercises and competency tests. Data were collected from various sources which include: (1) The informants, the teaching team and the students, (2) Places and events that were taking place at teaching learning process, and (3) documents including curriculum, syllabus, lesson plans, learning contracts and assessment books. Techniques used in collecting data are (1) Interviews (2) Observations (3) Test and (4) Documentation. The result of the research revealed that students showed liveliness and increasing learning achievement. Most students dare to express their opinions and become critic. 25 students (81%) had increased their skill in team collaboration, and four students (13%) showed adequate improvement. Besides, the result shows that the implementation of the action on the second cycle has been successful indicated by at least 80% of students have a minimum score, 70.

Abstract

This paper discusses about developing characteristics of being a citizen. The aim of this paper is to develop personality of citizens who are fully participating, competent, responsible, and having commitment to the values and objectives of the state in accordance with the vision of Indonesia in 2025. This can be done by developing a national perspective, which is fostering a sense of nationality through the study of civics education learning, the actualization of nationality through civics curriculum changes, and actualization of national spirit through the development of civics education materials.

Abstract

Multiple intelligence theory is proposed and developed by Howard Gardner. He defined intelligence as a capability in problem resolving and providing a product in varied setting and real situation. This multiple intelligence concept is related to attractive learning. The word ?attractive? has interesting meaning by which besides to attract and provide fun, it also provides creativity and motivates students to play while learning in which this conforms to the main principle of education in kindergarten. There are considerations which must be taken into account by the teacher in implementing attractive learning integrated with multiple intelligence on PAUD (early-aged children education), they are the impact of multiple intelligence on learning method or approach being used class management or setting and the evaluation of learning process. Principally teacher does not only provide lectures but also use problem solving approach adjusted with the student's capability in multiple intelligence theory.

Abstract

The purposes of this research are: (1) to find out whether or not Cooperative Learning methods improve students' English proficiency to score higher in TOEIC; (2) to know the students' interest toward the TOEIC class; and (3) to describe the students' activity during the TOEIC class. The method used in this research is a classroom action research done collaboratively with the English teacher, conducted in two cycles from August 28th until October 28th 2010 at the twelfth grade of SMK Negeri 1 Wonogiri by applying Think-Pair-Share (TPS) and Student Team Achievement Division (STAD) methods. Data were collected through observation, questionnaire, and test. The data were analyzed by using FLINT system, Comprehensive and Individual Analysis, and mean statistical formula. Result shows that students' TOEIC score improves. It is also found that students became more interested in TOEIC class. Students' activity also improves. It can be concluded that Cooperative Learning can (1) improve students' TOEIC score, (2) attract the students to join TOEIC class, and (3) push the students to actively participate in the class.

Abstract

Reading activity in education is very important, because it can provide a wide range of information and knowledge so that a person would have generous knowledge. In other word reading is the most inexpensive, effective, and efficient learning source. On the other hand, achieving competent reading ability is not easy to do. Based on that reason the writer tries to generalize the model of mind mapping learning in improving students' reading ability. The aim of this paper is to measure the students' reading achievement by implementing mind mapping learning model. The method of the research is descriptive and experimental method. The result of the research showed that the improvement of students' reading achievement on skimming skill by implementing mind mapping learning model is significant.

Abstract

Unemployment issue has been a social problem that never ends. It is triggered by several causes such as monetary crisis, unbalance between the supply and demand, and unprepared working force. Many efforts through education have been done to overcome unemployment issue, for example through Competence Based Curriculum, Link and Match, and apprenticeship. The government has also determined some policies, namely Professional Autonomous Young Manpower (TKPMF), Educated Autonomous Manpower (TKMT), Effective and Efficient Technology (TTG), and Labor Force Opportunity Widening (PSPK). In addition, the government has also given opportunity to the society to become workers in foreign countries (TKI). Despite the efforts mentioned above, unemployment issue is still a problem in Indonesia. Viewing various phenomena related to this problem, many unemployment will be revealed thorough this writing to find the solutions by conducting critical analysis from educational aspect review.

Abstract

Global, regional, as well as local competitions demand all the agents of educational organizations should possess dynamic, critical, creative, and strategic conceptions responding the escalating challenges. On the other side, the process of conducting education in Indonesia nowadays is rightly tending to be static. It hasn't arrived at provisioning academic as well as administrative personnel who are capable of thinking and taking measures strategically or improving the organizations. The matters arising are that all the agents of previous educational organizations, particularly the state educational institution are still so dependent upon government subsidy that they ignore exercising the strategic management. Nevertheless, in its implementation, the strategic management also has limitations, primarily matters related with the agents' interpretation toward organizational environments which are quite varied. This article is addressed toward the discussion of the role of strategic management in conducting education in Indonesia. It is virtually hoped that all educational administrators are able to determine vision and mission, identify mandate and core competition, carefully analyze the tendency of strategic environments so that they can produce an accurate strategy and implement the indicated strategy in a correct manner.
