Abstract

Based on the analysis results, the implementation of Think-Pair-Share method showed that defining democracy concept increased from 78% to 98%, elaborating the history of the first enforcement of democracy increased from 76% to 98%, explaining types of democracy implementation in nation?s life, increased from 79% to 97%, and explaining the nature of Pancasila democracy and its implementation in nation?s life increased from 81% to 96%. These results denoted that Think-Pair-Share method could improve the Civic Educationsubject performance in showing participation in nation defense effort. Think-Pair-Share is a right initial step to motivate students to follow the next stage of learning. Moreover, in this step, students are given chances to decide their answer and the problems delivered by the teachers, and write their own ideas, so that the individual thinking ability can be improved. This step is more effective than when the teacher presents a problem or a question, and asks the answer to the students one by one. In the next activity, which is a discussion with a partner, students who never or rarely speak in front of the class can be able to express his/her ideas to the partner.

Abstract

In curriculum structure of high education level, there is a group of courses, the existence of which is as if salt. Its presence is very desirable but it is not valued highly. Cooking with less or even no salt will have no taste. But when the salt becomes flavoring in for example gule kambing cooking, people will no longer remember its existence. What the people remember is the deliciousness of goat meat and its broth. Similarly, the existence of general course (mata kuliah umum = MKU) in the structure of high education curriculum is very important but it is not valued highly, even it is as if marginalized like stepchild. It occurs in various colleges, particularly in study program developing natural and reengineering sciences. Even in United States of America, MKU is perceived as the neglected stepchild of the undergraduate experience. Poor perception on MKU is in contradiction with the objective of organizing the course group, i.e. as the attempt of helping the personality development of students in order to serve as the members of society, nation, and state. Then, MKU also attempts to grow the students? sensitivity to social problems arising in the society, and to provide basic knowledge to make the students capable of thinking in interdisciplinary manner, understanding various scholars? thought thereby facilitating them to communicate. In contemporary terminology, MKU works to balance the three aspect of student ability known as the balance between Intellectual Quotient (IQ), Emotional Quotient (EQ), and Spiritual Quotient (SQ). Nowadays, the most appropriate moment for the organizer of college to make academic repent by means of revitalizing the general course professionally. Otherwise, this nation?s moral actually deteriorates. Other evidences of deteriorated moral are: (1) poor mastery of national language (local area and Indonesia) as the result of language imperialism. (2) Excessive pride of foreign product (various cultural artifact). (3) Dissatisfaction with state in dealing with corruption, public service, government performance. (4) Intentional or unintentional brain drain. (5) No solid national education self-identity as the result of education imperialism.

Abstract

Paying attention to the gap between the fenomenal discource dan movement of civil society in the Indonesian politics in 1990s and its anomali movement in the reformation era, has been be studied the problems of Indonesian civil society in such era using documents and decriptive and critical analysis in order to be sought its ways out using reflective analysis. Instead of being strong, Indonesian civil society in the reformation era really weakened. The civil society those formerly had autonomy were coopted by the state when their leader got power. The leaders themselves looked inconsistent in democratic culture. Moreover, civil society grew as a mean of struggle for power, and when the power was in hand they coopted the state. Besides, the public civility collapsed and the new primordialism, such as etnic nationalism, communalism, and religious sectarianism, appeared. As a solution to civil society?s weakness, is absolutely needed their empowerment through political education prioritizing Islamic ethics based on civic values: civility, autonomy, self-help, self-sufficiency, and social contract. Civility is an ethical solution for solving problems of anomalous growth of civil society as a mean of struggle for power, collapse of public civility, and leader?s inconsistency in public civility. Autonomy, self-help, and self-sufficiency are ethical solutions for solving the problem of civil society being coopted by the state when their leader gets power. Moreover, social contract is an ethical solution for solving the problem of civil society coopting the state.

Abstract

This article, the author wanted to explain about the human condition of Indonesia which experienced varying degrees of decadence, thus impacting the development of Indonesia's state-halting. There are two reasons why the Indonesia experience multidimensional problems, namely the existence of the nation's system of cultural values and heritage of colonization negative impact on the people of Indonesia. To overcome this problem, one solution is to use a sociological approach to the culture of the theory of Parsons and Kluckohn Talcot. Although the two are not necessarily theoretically able to answer a wide range of problems that exist in Indonesia, but at least it can be ground.
