He asks help from Master Teng-tu then successfully escapes from the accusation concerning his morality. Through qualitative method and theory of hypermasculinity, the analysis of the story includes how the dialogues of Sung-yu and Master Teng-tu are matters of male superiority and underestimation to women. Sung-yu may win but his effort is not manly since he prioritizes himself more than the others. In conclusion, masculinity may always exist in society, but being a hyper version of it should be hindered. People should take care more of other people by concerning better moral considerations hereafter.

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to explore exploitation in James Mcbride’s the Good Lord Bird undergone mostly by the colored people because they are dominated by the white. Using descriptive and dramatic method to analyze as well as discuss the speech and action of the characters, the study finds that the colored people are exploited through two ways, man by man exploitation and labor exploitation. Man by man exploitation refers to enslaving, taking bribes, killing, and threatening, whilst, labor exploitation refers to selling by the owner and working for the owner. Thus, exploitation is an inhumane conduct since human should be respectable as they are created the same only those with great fear of the God.

Abstract

Patriarchy refers to the domination of men over women in all kinds of field. Women have no rights to do what men can do. There are a lot of studies about patriarchy, most of which are about man’s power towards woman with the result of woman’s struggle to get equality with the man that is called feminism. This study challenges the previous studies above that study on patriarchy does not always get the responses of feminism. In Oscar Wilde’s the Picture of Dorian Gray, the researcher studies about patriarchal picture. How the characters Lord Henry Wotton and Dorian Gray reveal their patriarchal words towards women is discussed in this study. Using close reading as a method, this study shows the result that the two men, Lord Henry Wotton and Dorian Gray reveal words about women that are patriarchal: symbolizing women, oppressing women’s voices, and manipulating as well as abusing women’s emotion that the researcher suggests their words can put women in degradation as well as humiliation that feminist should fight for. Besides, the impacts on women, that is the loss of women’s dignity, are also the finding of the study.

Abstract

This study explores the use of ChatGPT as an English learning tool in an Expository and Analytical Writing class, focusing on students’ usage patterns and the challenges they encountered. A qualitative research design was employed, incorporating classroom observations and semi-structured interviews with 12 English Education students selected through stratified random sampling. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the data. Results indicate that students engaged with ChatGPT during all stages of the writing process except publishing, with particular emphasis on revising, editing, and proofreading. They used ChatGPT to request examples tailored to their writing needs and incorporated selected content into their drafts. While ChatGPT provided valuable support in specific areas of writing, students faced difficulties in crafting effective prompts. The findings suggest that ChatGPT can enhance writing development, but its effectiveness relies on students’ critical engagement and AI literacy to maintain originality and uphold academic integrity.

Abstract

All of the teacher's utterances during classroom activities have meanings that are not just information but also express certain things. Understanding linguistics is very crucial, especially in the field of speech acts that are directly related to communication and interaction between people. There are many types of speech acts and not all of them have been studied, one of which is the verdictive speech act. The purpose is to examine the types of verdictive speech acts that are often uttered by the teacher in the class. This research uses descriptive qualitative research. The data were collected using observation in class VII-E at SMPN 2 Gudo, Jombang. The research data were in the form of teacher utterances using Charles W. Kreidler's speech act theory. The data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman's model. The results showed that the type of verdictive speech act that was often expressed by the teacher was praise with 10 utterances out of 11 utterances and 1 utterance for congratulation. This research concluded that the types of verdictive speech acts that have been found by the researcher are praise and congratulation. Abstract

This research explored the role of speech acts within the context of pragmatics, focusing on their function in conveying meaning beyond literal expressions. By categorizing speech acts into locutionary, illocutionary, and perlocutionary acts, the study examined how each type contributes to communication. Searle’s four types of illocutionary acts, assertive, directive, commissive, and expressive. were analyzed to better understand the intentions behind the speaker’s utterances. The study specifically focused on illocutionary acts, demonstrating how these acts assist in interpreting the speaker’s intended message within a given context. Through a qualitative methodology and a descriptive approach, the research aimed to classify and examine the speech acts in the movie "Oppenheimer," revealing how the characters' dialogues represent real-life interactions and reflect the underlying pragmatic rules that guide communication. Keywords: Speech acts; Illocutionary; Movie.
