Abstract

The number of illegal poachers is increasing in the forest area of Kepuharjo Village, Kapanewon Cangkringan, Sleman Regency. This illegal hunting activity can disrupt the ecosystem and threaten the extinction of certain animal species. One of the iconic animals of Sleman Regency which is now starting to become rare is the punglor bird (red anis) which is often hunted by members of the public. Referring to the many reports from the public to the Kepuharjo district government, it shows that the massive number of animal poaching requires follow-up efforts to overcome this problem. This research aims to increase public understanding regarding the urgency of protecting animals by prohibiting animal hunting in the forest area of Kepuharjo Village. This research is a normative-empirical research that uses descriptive-qualitative analysis techniques and is strengthened by a case study approach. The results of the research show that the cause of the high number of illegal poaching in the Kepuharjo sub-district is due to a lack of public legal awareness and a lack of firmness in law enforcement relating to the prohibition of animal hunting. As an effort to reduce the number of illegal poaching that occurs in Kepuharjo Subdistrict, The Student Community Services-Community Empowerment Learning (KKN-PPM UGM) team collaborates with the Kepuharjo Subdistrict Government to establish animal protection efforts in the form of drafting Kepuharjo subdistrict regulations regarding animal protection, making signs. animal hunting ban installed in eight hamlet points, planning of a task force to eradicate illegal poaching and other steps implemented in the context of animal protection.

Abstract

People with disabilities are a socially, economically and politically vulnerable group. Even though their existence has been recognized in global norms such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), their role in development is still often perpetuated as objects rather than subjects of development. This study aims to understand how far the SDGs manifested in the "Inclusion Village" program and other government programs are able to represent the actual needs of persons with disabilities in Sidoharjo Village, Polanharjo, Klaten. Data obtained through qualitative interviews with five persons with disabilities in Sidoharjo Village show that there is indeed a gap between the local context and the global standards of the SDGs. This means that various programs based on inclusivity are still not understood and their impact is not felt by persons with disabilities. The findings in this research indicate that people with disabilities in Sidoharjo Village have not been well-placed as subjects of development. Eventually, there are unfulfilled rights in regard to health, education, welfare and equality services.

Abstract

Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) is a vector-borne disease which posses a great threat for public health sector in many countries, including Indonesia. It is estimated more than 390 million cases are reported annually worldwide. Indonesia is one of the countries with the highest number of dengue cases in the world, with 95,000 cases recorded in 2018. Vector control is the main strategy for preventing the transmission of Dengue infection. Vector control practices are influenced by the level of public knowledge and perception. This study aimed to determine and improve the level of knowledge and perceptions of Islamic boarding school students regarding DHF transmission. This was a quasi-experimental research with one group pretest & posttest. The interventions carried out were in the form of health promotion with educational lectures on the prevention and transmission of DHF. The level of knowledge and perception was measured before and after the intervention using a questionnaire. The number of respondents in this study were 166 respondents, with most of them are female (50.6%). There was an increase in the average posttest scores compared to the pretest with respective averages of 63.84 ± 12.02 and 75.74 ± 11.78 (p = 0.0001). The existence of health promotion in the santri group could increase knowledge and perception of DHF as a vector-borne disease.

Abstract

Bullying in the school environment is an emerging issue that needs to be taken care of by various parties. It will cause a negative impact on the future of both the perpetrator and the victim. Children may grow up with unstable emotions and have low empathy for others. The purpose of this activity is to introduce basic emotions and anti-bullying knowledge as an effort to increase empathetic awareness in the community in preventing bullying. Prospective comparative study with an observation and interview was carried out as the methodology, teachers, and parents. The research sample was selected using a purposive sampling method. Based on observations, it was found that there are behaviors that indicate bullying in the school environment. In addition, students were also found to have poor empathy and emotional management. The activity of introducing basic emotions and anti-bullying behavior utilized posters, mini games, and attaching stickers. This activity is targeted for grade 5 elementary school students because they are already able to recognize their emotions, and their experience will be an example for other students in another grade. Students, teachers, and parents who have been interviewed stated that this emotional recognition and anti-bullying activity was excellent and had a positive impact on children's emotional development. Students increasingly understand the meaning of basic emotions and anti-bullying, recognize self-emotions, know how to express emotions, increase empathy, and create a more comfortable school environment.
