Abstract

The purpose of this study was to obtain a description of the ability profile of students of SMP Negeri 3 Poso Pesisir Utara class VIIIC in solving story problems about the surface area and volume of pyramids based on Adversity Quotient (AQ). This study used descriptive qualitative method. Based on the results of data analysis, it was found that: (1) CB subjects were able to understand problems, plan solutions, implement settlement plans and re-examine problem solving. CB subjects are able to mention things that are known and asked correctly, are able to express the steps for solving and solving problems according to the plan properly, and re-examine the results of the completion. (2) CP subjects are able to understand the problem, namely being able to mention things that are known and asked correctly. In addition to planning a solution, the CP subject is also able to carry out the settlement plan that he has planned in solving the problem, but does not re-examine the solution because he feels confident with the answer. (3) QT subjects are able to understand the problem, namely being able to mention things that are known and asked correctly. QT subjects also plan solutions, but in carrying out the settlement plans, QT subjects do not solve the problem completely, because they already find it difficult and confused to continue working on the problem. QT subjects also did not re-examine their answers.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is (1) describing students' errors in completing the story about the surface area and volume of blocks based on the Newman error analysis procedure based on gender (2) describe the factors that cause students to make mistakes in solving story problems on the surface area and volume of blocks based on Newman's error analysis procedure in terms of gender. This type of research is qualitative research. The research subjects were 1 male student and 1 female student taken from 31 students of class VIII A. The results of this study indicate that the types of errors made by MH and RS subjects made the same mistakes. The mistakes made were process skills errors and writing errors in answers. The process skill error made by MH is wrong in operating numbers that have variables. MH adds up the two variable numbers 240t + 120t to make 360t2. The process skill error made by RS is wrong in operating numbers that have variables, RS adds up two variable numbers 120 x t + 60 x t to 180 x 2t. MH and RS made mistakes in writing answers, which were not being able to write down the correct units in the final answer. The factors that cause students to make mistakes in solving the problem of surface area and volume of blocks are that students' prerequisite material knowledge is still insufficient or lacking, students are not thorough in solving problems of surface area and volume of blocks, and the inability to determine the right unit.

Abstract

This research is a qualitative study that agrees to describe the types of errors made by students of class XI SMA Negeri 7 Palu in solving quadratic function questions. Data were collected by means of test and interview methods. The research subjects consisted of 2 students. The results showed that the students' misconceptions were: (1) Wrong to write down what was known and asked from the questions, it was shown that the subject did not write down what was known and was asked for the answer. (2) Wrong in determining the solution of the problem, it is shown that the subject made an error in substituting the values a, b, and c in the formula and wrong in determining the factor of a quadratic function. (3) wrong in determining the final answer. (4) wrong in multiplying the value of a to the quadratic function formula. Principle errors that were made by students were: (1) students did not understand the concept and did not master the prerequisite material, students did not write the formula for the peak point and were wrong in determining the value of the peak point of a parabola, procedural errors made by students were: (1) Not writing what was known and asked from the questions, it is shown that the subject did not write down what was known and was asked for the answer. (2) an error in carrying out the operation, it was shown that the student was wrong in doing the questions given. (3) incomplete procedure error.

Abstract

This study aimed to obtain a description of the critical thinking of students in class VII SMP in solving problems on the material of build flat triangle. This type of research is descriptive-qualitative with a case study approach. In this study, three students were selected, each of whom had high, medium and low mathematical abilities. Data collection techniques in this study by providing questions about the triangle material and interviews. The triangle material was chosen because it can trigger students to use their higher-order thinking skills. The results of this study indicate that the critical thinking profile of students in class VII of SMP Negeri 1 Mepanga in solving problems on the material of build flat triangle is as follows, the critical thinking profile of students with high mathematical abilities (PM) includes, providing simple explanations, building basic skills, solving skills problem and conclude, the critical thinking profile of students with moderate mathematical ability (SR) includes, providing simple explanations, problem solving and concluding abilities and the critical thinking profile of students with low mathematical ability (AL) only provides a simple explanation.

Abstract

This study aims to obtain a description of the number sense profile of male and female students with high mathematical abilities in solving mathematics problems. This subject of this study were two grade VII students of SMPN 1 Palu in the odd semester of the 2019/2020. Two students selected as research subject consisted of a male student with high math ability and a female student with high math ability. The number sense data of the two subjects were obtained through problem-solving tests and unstructured interviews which were then analyzed qualitatively. The results showed that male student with high math ability had good number sense in solving math problems by utilizing their understanding of numbers. Meanwhile, female students with high math ability use simpler ways to solve problems quickly than male. The results showed that female students had a good number sense in solving math problems by utilizing their understanding of numbers.

Abstract

This study aims to obtain a description of the results of student representation in solving linear programming problems at SMA Negeri Model Terpadu Madani Palu. This type of research is descriptive with a qualitative approach. The research subjects were selected based on the results of the students' mathematical ability tests which were then categorized based on high, medium and low mathematical abilities. The results of this study indicate that (1) Regarding the mathematical representation of the symbol form of students in the category of high mathematical ability (KST) (MD), students with the category of moderate mathematical ability (KSS) (NS) and students with low mathematical ability (KSR) (MF). ) is able to make equations, algebraic symbols, mathematical operations, mathematical models and solve problems involving mathematical expressions well. (2) In visual form, students both KST (MD), KSS students (NS) and KSR students (MF) have been able to present data or information from a representation to a graphical representation. While in tabular form, KSR students (MF) did not use tables to clarify problems and facilitate solutions. (3) Verbally KST students (MD) can write down the steps for solving math problems in words and answer questions using written or spoken text and draw conclusions correctly. Likewise, KSS students (NS) can also make good conclusions. However, KSR (MF) students for verbal representation are still lacking, KSR (MF) students rarely use and clarify solutions with verbal words or sentences and are often wrong in explaining the answers they get.
