Abstract

Research on “Analysis of Economic Loss and Society Knowledge of Orangutan Sumatra (Pongo abelii) conflict” was conducted in March 2013 until April 2013 at Kuta Gajah and Besilam Village by interview inhabitants whose land damage by the orangutan. The purpose of this research are to calculate the total economic loss caused by the conflicts, to know the cost of community, NGO and government have been spend for mitigating conflict between human and Orangutan Sumatera (P. abelii) and also to analyze community knowledge about the reasons of the conflicts. The result of this research showed that total economic loss at Kuta Gajah is higher than Besilam. Total economics loss occured to Kuta Gajah villager was Rp 2.120.952,00, that clasified to high, while occured to Besilam villager was Rp 340.,00 and clasified to low.  In conflict mitigation, governments cooperated with OIC and by evacuating into Gunung Leuser National Park Area.Keywords: Orangutan Sumatra, Orangutan conflict, Economic Loss, Mitigation Cost, Gunung Leuser National Park.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know the composition and stratification of vegetation at Education Forest of North Sumatra University, Tongkoh, Karo District, North Sumatra Province. This research conducted from May to June 2013. Data collection was using “lines method”. The sample plot techniques was a Purposive Sampling method with random start. The plot size was 20 m x 100 m. The results showed that found 73 species of 31 Families of trees, in which 5 Families with the most species of trees which Lauraceae (9 species), Meliaceae (7 specie), Myrtaceae (6 species), Fagaceae (5 species), and the Guttiferae, Moraceae, and respective Sapotaceae (each are 4 species). Education Forest  of USU compiled by A stratum (62 individuals), stratum B (416 individuals), stratum C (2133 individuals), and stratum D (164 individuals) in a 2 ha area.Keywords: tforest compotiion, frest stratification, education forest of North Sumatra University (USU)

Abstract

Forest area is still gives contribution from non timber forest products (HHBK) economic value to household income of the community around the forest higly. This research was conducted on June-July 2013 in Simasom Village, Subdistrict of Padangsidimpuan Angkola Julu, Padangsidimpuan City by using purposive sampling method which means that the choised respondents were who employing at non timber forest products (HHBK) directly from limited production forest. The aims of this research were to identify the kinds of HHBK, tho determine the economic value of HHBK along with the contributions to household income, and to determine the income distribution of this HHBK employing and to make a poverty analysis about the people concerned on this HHBK income to reduction of the people’s poverty rate. The results of this research showed that the kinds of HHBK which is employed by the people from limited production forest are: rattan, nira water, palm fiber, sugar from palm sugar, fruits of sugar palm, bamboo, cinnamons, deer, bracken, pig, durian, candlenut, petai, lanseh fruit, top soil, and firewood. While, the total contribution of HHBK from limited production forest to household income in Simasom Village was Rp. 723.519.000,-/year (39,22%). Then, the imbalance of people’s income distribution from HHBK employment from limited production forest can be measured according to Gini Coefficient value that is 0,42 which means that the high enough imbalance between the rich employer and the poor one has happened. While, the income from HHBK has been contributed to reduce the persistent poverty people about 15 persons or about 30% of household.Key Words: Non timber forest products, economic value, contribution of income, income distribution, poverty.

Abstract

The hybrid Eucalyptus urograndis IND 47 is a hybrid between Eucalyptus urophylla ST Blake and Eucalyptus grandis ex Maid W.Hill developed in operational scale in PT Toba Pulp Lestari Tbk (TPL). Therefore, a research had been  conducted on E. urograndis IND 47 in Estate A, sector of Aek Nauli, PT TPLTbk. The aim of this research was to predict biomass of E. urograndis IND 47. The results showed that the biomass of E.urograndis IND 47 in Estate A was 8,431.25 tons for total area of 367.38 ha compartment with an average biomass was 22.95 tons /ha with ages of 1-3.3 years. Biomass differences caused by differences in ages of trees, number of trees in each compartment and environmental factors.Keywords: biomass, Eucalyptus urograndis IND 47, PT Toba Pulp Lestari Tbk

Abstract

Water is the most essential need for human and people will pay no matter how to get it, so that the water can be said a non economic good. The forest as the main function of the Hydrological cycle which is a unified system that can’t be separated, but the people in Hapesong Baru village still not understand the value of economic benefits available from water in the Parsariran River. This study aimed to determine the economic value of water in quantitative household in subdistrict of Batang Toru and to determine the economic value estimate household water needs from Parsariran River. This study conducted on August 1 to September 7, 2013, using the model cuantitative collecting data through interviews with respondents. The result showed that the value of the benefits of total household water is Rp. 28,482,522,- - in one year, with an average value of benefits domestic water obtained is Rp. 418 860 , - in one year/household. The model estimates the economic value of water equal to the household sector is Y = 19,86 X1-0,0618. The results can be seen that the value of the economic benefits of domestic water has contributed greatly to the needs of the community .Keywords: Water Consumption Prediction, Economic value of water, Parsariran River

Abstract

Arenga pinnata is a forest plant that has a lot of advantages but can not be utilized yet completely by the local community. This research conducted in Bukum and Suka Maju village from March to May 2013. This research aimed to determine the distribution and economic value of Arenga pinnata. Sampling was done by purposive sampling technique to select the respondents and to determine the distribution of the Arenga pinnata by plotting at each height class as much as 2 plot using random line. Market price approach technique used to determine the economic values. The results of this research showed that the distribution of Arenga pinnata is obtained and dominant grew at the altitude of 600-800 meters above sea level, while the highest economic value of Arenga pinnata is brown sugar (Rp. 333.600.000/year for 31 farmers) and the lowest economic value is palm wine (Rp 39.360.000/year for 10 farmera). The marketing channels of Arenga pinnata involved Arenga pinnata farmers, brown sugar and palm wine producers, collector agents and consumers.Keywords : Aren, Arenga pinnata, distribution, economic value

Abstract

Dolok Sibual-buali Nature Reserve (CADS) is a conservation area in North Sumatra, covers ± 5.000 hectare area, altitude 1.200 – 1.700 m asl. Terrestrial orchids are orchids that grow in the ground in soil and the nutrition is obtained from the soil. Inventory of terrestrial orchids performed to study the diversity and altitudinal distribution of terrestrial orchids species in CADS. Study was performed in April - July 2013. Locations are determined by purposive sampling study with noticed the environmental factors, the vegetation observation used line plot transect which divided into 4 locations with different altitude intervals of every 100 m (1.200 m asl – 1.600 m asl), measuring plot 20 m x 100 m, divided to 5 subplots measuring 20 m x 20 m, so the plot number is 20.  The result found 29 species of terrestrial orchids, divided of 17 genus with the individuals amount as much 816/0,8 hectare. Plocoglottis sp. 1 is the most widely distribution of species, found from 1.200 m asl to 1.500 m asl.Keywords: terrestrial orchids, Dolok Sibual-buali Nature Reserve, inventory, Kebun Bonsai.

Abstract

Jeruju is one of mangrove commodities that can be found at various location including in Sei Nagalawan village. Most of the utilization of jeruju leaves still conventional and subsistence .jeruju utilization is still limited for the leaves and roots. At household jeruju leaves processing has been in Sei Nagalawan village it was process then into jeruju kerupuk and jeruju tea. According the study aim to know finansial feasibility leaves processing household jeruju, to know processing of jeruju leaves becomes various products, the financial feasibility and to know added value jeruju leaves in every production process in Sei Nagalawan village. This research was done in March 2015. Sampling was done by purposive and the method used in the form of cost and revenue analysis, RC Ratio analysis, Break event point analysis, and Added value analysis. This research showed that financially, jeruju kerupuk enough being product because its RC ratio more than one (1,17) and therefore jeruju tea enough being product because its RC ratio more than one (2,14). BEP total of jeruju kerupuk is 31 packs while jeruju tea is 7 packs and BEP price is about Rp 5.200,- per pack for jeruju kerupuk and Rp 4.700,-/ packs for jeruju tea. Added value for jeruju kerupuk is Rp 49.577,-/kg, and for jeruju tea is Rp 81.150,-/kg. Market opportunity is still possible, because it's still rare in market. Strategic area of  Sei Nagalawan village will support access to market.Key words : Jeruju Leaves, financial analysis, added value, Jeruju Kerupuk product, Jeruju Tea.

Abstract

Mangrove forest area is currently very vulnerable to environmental changes such as ecological pressures that come from nature and people. Preservation of mangrove area is very necessary, however the need of people’s livelihood around the mangrove areas can not be ignored as well. Accordingly, a business pattern which combines mangrove area and community pond system is developed, It is well known as silvofishery. This study aims to assess the financial analysis of silvofishery system and non silvofishery system and analyze the contribution of the pond business to the total income of household. This research was conducted in October - December 2014 and was held in Paluh Manan Village, Hamparan Perak Sub-District, Deli Serdang District, North Sumatra Province. This research used census method which the informants were interviewed directly. Comparative result of the financial analysis pond system shows the NPV and BCR of silvofishery is higher than the NPV and BCR of non silvofishery, which means silvofishery is more profitable than non silvofishery. Silvofishery and non silvofishery pond sufficiently provide high annual revenue for domestic fish farmer/tenants. The amount of the revenue is 65.83% for silvofishery and 55.44 % for non silvofishery. Key words : financial analysis, silvofishery, non silvofishery, household income

Abstract

Forest resources have so much benefits for human being. One of the example is environmental service such as ecotourism. Silimalima Waterfall is one of the ecotourism that can be found on Simaninggir Village, Marancar Districts, South Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatera Province. This waterfall needs some developments to be ready as an ecotourism that will give some benefits for local communities and to minimize the environmental damage that often caused by the tourism activity. The purpose of the research were to analyze the potential of Silimalima Waterfall and to analyze the problems along with strategies of Silimalima Waterfall development. The research was conducted by giving the questioner about internal and external factors to the respondents, local communities and the employers of Dinas Pemuda Olahraga dan Pariwisata of South Tapanuli Regency. Data results will be used to find the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of Silimalima Waterfall as an ecotourism on South Tapanuli Regency. The result of this research showed that the feasibility percentage of  Silimalima Waterfall development is 73,72%, that makes it feasible to do the developments. The result of SWOT Analysis shows that Silimalilma Waterfall is on the first quadrant that means Siimalima Waterfall is on a very profitable position because the strengths could covers the weaknesses and the threats and also make it possible to take all of the opportunities.
