Abstract

Paclobutrazol Application Study on Balance the Growth of Three Varieties of Peanuts(Arachis hypogaea L.). This study aimed to learn effect of paclobutrazol application ongrowth of three varieties of peanuts. The research was conducted at Tanjung Sari, Medan (±25 m above sea level) from June – October 2012 used randomized block design. The firstfactor was the paclobutrazol concentration with 4 level were 0, 100, 200 and 300 ppm and thesecond factor was three varieties were Gajah, Bima and Domba with 3 replication. Parameterwere plant length, number of productive branch, flowering time, harvest time, ginofornumber formed per sample, number of pod contains, seed weight per sample and weight of100 seeds. The results showed that paclobutrazol significant of plant length 7-9 week afterplant. Variety significant of plant length 2-9 weeks after plant, number of productive branchat 5-9 weeks after plant, flowering time, harvest time, ginofor number formed per sample,weight of 100 seeds, but not significant to number of pod contain and seed weight persample. Whereas, interaction between paclobutrazol and varieties only significant to reducenumber of empty pods.Keywords: peanuts, paclobutrazol, varieties

Abstract

Isolation of fungi Oncobasidium theobromae P.H.B Talbot and Keane cause disease VascularStreak Dieback (VSD) on cocoa plants in the laboratory. The research aims to isolateO. theobromae cause Vascular Streak Dieback (VSD) disease on cocoa in the Laboratory. Theresearch was conducted at the Laboratory of Plant Desease Faculty of Agriculture, University ofSumatra Utara.. The research results showed that O. theobromae has a mycelium shaped like cottonand thick white cream, thin walled hyphae, hyaline, with irregular septa, spores an oval with oneflat side, 10-15μm in length and width of 8-10μm.Keywords: Vascular Streak Dieback, Oncobasidium theobromae, cocoa

Abstract

The objective of this research is to know the interaction effects of Silicate and Mycorrhizaapplication to Andisol on the phosphorus and maize growth. The experiment was conducted at thescreen house, at Laboratory of Chemistry and Soil Fertility, and Research and TechnologyLaboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatera, Medan from July until December2012 . Andisol soil was taken from horticultural farms at Kuta Rakyat Village, Naman Teran Subdistrict, Karo District. The design used was Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 3 replicationand 2 (two) factors, namely Silicate (Si) consists which of 5 level: Si0(control), Si1(0.89 g/4 kg soil)Si2(1.78 g/4 kg of soil), Si3(2.67 g/4 kg soil), Si4(3.56 g/4 kg soil) and Mycorrhiza factor (Mi),which consists of three levels, that is: Mi0 (0 g/4 kg soil), Mi1(15 g/4 kg soil) Mi2(30 g /4 kg soil)and 3(three) replication to meet 45 experimental units. The results of this research showed thatapplication of Silicate on Andisol without mycorrhizal and higher dosage did not increase Pabsorptionand corn growth, while Silicate application at medium dosage (15 g/4 kg soil) increasedP-Available, P-absorption and corn growthKeywords: andisols, silicate, mycorrhiza and P-available

Abstract

Heritability of some varieties of mustard plants (Brassica juncea L.) with organic fertilizer. Mustardis a vegetable that seasonal and widely cultivated because of their many benefits and rewards.Mustard production has decreased each year. The decreasing availability of land and cultivationmethods are less than the maximum, then powered back organic farming system. The purpose ofthis research was to determine the response of two varieties of mustard with a heritability ofproviding a variety of organic fertilizers. Research conducted in public land Jl.Setia Budi, SelayangSimpang Village, District Field Tuntungan in September to November 2012, using a randomizedblock design with two factors and four replications. The first factor was mustard varieties consistedof Toksakan and Morakot. The second factor was sources of Will Grow organic fertilizer consistedof without Will Grow organic fertilizer, (0.5 x recommended dosage): 31.25 g / plot, (1.00 xrecommended dosage): 62.5 g / plot and (1.50 x recommended dosage): 93.75 g / plot. The resultsshowed that the varieties tested significantly different observation variables plant height, leaf area,leaf chlorophyll amount, selling fresh weight per plant, biomass per sample weight and harvestindex. Fertilizer Will Grow significant effect on the observation variables plant height, leaf area,leaf chlorophyll amount, selling fresh weight per plant, and weight biomass per sample. Highestheritability value contained in the variable observations of the lowest plant height and leaf area atthe observation variables.Keywords : heritability, mustard, variety, fertilizer

Abstract

One of the problem encountered in rubber cultivation by rubber budded stump is high deathpercentage of stum in field. The research aim was to obtain useful rubber germ by cococut water soakand liquid organic fertilizer. The research was conduted at Kelurahan Pulo Brayan Bengkel Baru,Kecamatan East Medan (+ 25 meter above sea level) on June to October 2012.Completely randomized design with two factors and three replications. The first factor isthe duration coconut water soak (0, 12, 24 hour) and the second factor is liquid organic fertilizer(0, 20, 40, and 60 cc/plant). Parameters observated were percentage of break bud in field, time of brekbud, height of bud, diameter of bud, amount of leaf, root drived weight, shoot drived weight andpercentage of amount the death of stump at field. The result showed that period of coconut watersoak significantly affect the to percentage of broken bud 2 weeks after plant and the time of brek therubber bedded stump. The liquid organic fertilizer significantly affect to time of break stump, heightof bud, and shoot drived weight. Interaction of coconut water and liquid organic ferlilizer was notsignificantly effect to all paremeters. The best sit of coconut water is 12 hour and dose of liquidorganic fertilizer is 60 cc/plant.Key word : rubber budded stump, coconut water, liquid organic water, growth

Abstract

The survey research is aimed to know the morphology and classification of soils at north slope ofMt.Sinabung. This research was conducted in Subdistrict Naman Teran, District Karo, NorthSumatera Province. Three selected pedons were observed at top slope, middle slope, and bottomslope. Soil samples were taken from each horizon for analysis soil texture, bulkdensity, pH H2O,pH KCl, pH NaF, Aldd, Base Saturation, CEC, ZPC (Zero Point of Charge), Organiccontent, P-retention, P-total, Al-oxsalate extracted (Alo), Si-oxsalate extracted (Sio), and Feoxsalateextracted (Feo) in The Chemical Soil Fertility and Research and Technology Laboratory,Agricultural Faculty of North Sumatera University, Medan. The result of the observation and theanalysis showed that the top slope soil has a rock material of lava which has been solid through ashallow solum, the middle slope soil have a perent material of lahars through a thick solum, and thebottom slope soil have a parent material of volcanic ash through a thick solum. According to SoilTaxonomy, the top slope soil is classified into su group Andic Dystrudept, however both of themiddle slope soil and the bottom slope soil are classified into sub group Typic Hapludand.Key Word : Mt.sinabung, soil classification. Abstract

Tomato is one of the fruits that are beneficial to humans. Tomato has a delicious taste and has acomposition of substances in tomatoes quite complete and well. Composition in tomatoes quiteprominent of these is the composition of vitamin A and C. With vegetables like tomatoes and otherfruits, can be processed into various food products. Nutrient composition of tomato fruit is 100grams of protein (1 g), carbohydrate (4.2 g), fat (0.3 g), calcium (5 mg), phosphorus (27 mg), iron(0.5 mg ), vitamin A (carotene) 1500 SI, vitamin B (thiamine) 60 mcg, vitamin C 40 mg. Vitaminscontained in tomatoes is necessary for the growth and health of the body. Vitamin C is useful toprevent ulcers, to maintain healthy teeth and gums, as well as protect against other diseases causedby lack of vitamin C. Even the U.S. study showed, tomatoes can be used as a preventative ofcancer, particularly prostate cancer, if eaten on a regular basis as much as 5 pieces every week. Oneof the business in order to increase the levels of vitamin C in tomatoes that growth hormone GA3application. Results of research conducted by Meiriani (2011) on the provision of GA3 on tomatoplants results obtained highest levels of vitamin C at a concentration of 450 ppm with a frequencyof 3 times is equal to 123.20 mg/100 g. This research aimed to increase in vitamin C of tomato(Lycopersicum esculentum Mill.) with the hormone GA3. This research aimed to increase vitaminof tomato (Lycopersicum esculentum Mill.) with the GA3 hormone. This Research was conducted atthe Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara about + 25 meters above sea level fromJanuary to April 2012. And arrange in randomized block design with two-factors factorialtreatments. The first factor was concentration of GA3 with four levels : 300 ppm, 450 ppm, 600ppm, 750 ppm and the second factor was frequency of GA3 with three levels, i.e : 3 time, 4 timesand 5 times. The result of research showed that application of GA3 at concentration up to 750 ppmwas significantly influenced to increased tomato vitamin C level. Interaction of both treatmentwas not significant to influenced parameter of observation.Key words : GA3, tomato, consentration, application frequency, vitamin C.

Abstract

The use of mycorrhizal arbuscula fungi (MAF) to control the Fusarium oxysporum f.sp.cubense and Radopholus similis on Barangan banana (Musa paradisiaca L.) in glasshouse.The research was to knew the effectivity of MAF in controling Fusarium wilt and R. similison Barangan Banana. The research was carried out in glasshouse of Agriculture Faculty,University of Sumatera Utara, Medan since May until December 2012. The method of thisresearch was Randomized Complete Design Non Factorial with nine treatment, namelycontrol, inoculation of MAF, inoculation of R. similis, inoculation F. oxysporum f.sp cubense,inoculation of mycorrhizal, R. similis & Foc, inoculation of Foc one week later MAF and R.similis, inoculation of R. similis one week later CMA dan Foc inoculation of MAF one weeklater Foc one week later R. similis; inoculation of MAF one week later R. similis one weeklater Foc and with three replication. The parameters are incubation period (days), diseaseincidence (%), and disease severity (%). The results showed that fastest incubation period inthe treatment M0R0F1 are 11 days and the lowest in the treatment M1R3F2, M1R2F3 are 20days. The highest percentage of disease incidence in the treatment M0R0F1 are 88.89% andthe lowest in the treatment M1R2F3 are 22.22%. Abstract

The objective of this research was to study the influence of endomycorrhizae on bioremediationheavy metals of Cd, Cu, and Pb. The research was conducted from April 2012 until February 2013used non factorial randomized block design with 5 replications and 5 treatments. Applications ofheavy metals treatments are: Control (non-application of endomycorrhizae and heavy metals), L0(application of endomycorrhizae and non-application of heavy metals), L1 (application ofendomycorrhizae and heavy metals Cd 1,5 ppm, Cu 20 ppm, and Pb 60 ppm), L2 (application ofendomycorrhizae and heavy metals Cd 2,25 ppm, Cu 25 ppm, and Pb 200 ppm), and L3 (applicationof endomycorrhizae and heavy metals Cd 3 ppm, Cu 30 ppm, and Pb 340 ppm). Heavy metals wereapplied 3 weeks before planted and endomycorrhizae was applied when planting. The plants keptuntil vegatative phase in the screen house.The result of this research showed that the application of endomycorrhizae decreased Cu and Pbavailablity in soil. In the plants, application of mycorrhizae decreased Pb uptake. Applications ofendomycorrhizae and heavy metals increasing mycorrhizae infection rates, but has no effect toheavy metals uptake, shoot dry weights, root dry weights, and pH H2O soil. Heavy metalsavailability in soil only significant to Pb availability after heavy metals applications.

Abstract

Potential of endophytic fungal to control Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. cubense (Foc) andnematode Radopholus similis (Rs) on banana cv. Barangan (Musa paradisiaca L.) crop ongreenhouse.
