Abstract

The use of antagonism fungus of Trichoderma sp. and Gliocladium sp. for controlling wilt(Fusarium oxysporum) in red onion plants. The aim of the research was to know the effectiviness ofantagonism fungus of Trichoderma sp. and Gliocladium sp. in controlling wilt in red onion plants. The research used non-factorial RAK (random group design) with eight treatments: control, 10grams of F. oxysporum, 12 grams of Trichoderma sp., 18 grams of Trichoderma sp., 24 grams ofTrichoderma sp., and 12 grams of Gliocladium sp., 18 grams of Gliocladium sp., 24 grams ofGliocladium sp., and three repetitions. The result showed that the worst-highest disease was incontrol with 10 grams of F. oxysporum (2.60%) and the lowest disease was in control, 18 grams ofTrichoderma sp., 24 grams of Trichoderma sp., 18 grams of Gliocladium sp., and 24 grams ofGliocladium sp. (0.71%). The accident of the highest disease was in 10 grams of F. oxysporum(5.01%) and the lowest was in control, 18 grams of Trichoderma sp., 24 grams of Trichoderma sp.,18 grams of Gliocladium sp., and 24 grams of Gliocladium sp. (0.71%). The largest number ofleaves was in 24 grams of Trichoderma sp. (36 leaves), and the smallest was in 10 grams of F.oxysporum (29 leaves). The highest plants was in 24 grams of Gliocladium sp. (40.20 cm) and thelowest in 10 grams of F. oxysporum (37.26 cm). The largest number of F. oxysporum colonies in 10grams of F. oxysporum (8.86%). The highest production was in 24 grams of Trichoderma sp. (2.34tons/ha) and the lowest in 10 grams of F. oxysporum (1.56 tons/ha). The test of antagonism fungusof Trichoderma sp. and Gliocladium sp. on F. oxysporum indicates that the growth of both types ofantagonism is faster so that F. oxysporum tends to keep away from antagonism in the medium of thelaboratory. Keywords: Trichoderma sp., Gliocladium sp., Fusarium oxysporum, antagonism

Abstract

Radopholus similis is a major constraint to banana production in the world including Indonesia and growers have relied on nematicides to manage yield losses. The use of endophytic fungi is one method that may reduce the need for nematicides, however little is known on the effective application method of endophytic fungi to control R. similis. The aim of this research was to find out an effective application method of endophytic fungi to reduce R.similispopulation on banana. Fifteen isolates of endophytic fungi originated from banana corm and root collected from banana plantation in North Sumatera were applied to Barangan cultivar by sowing and deeping methods. The isolates was contained of 11 isolates of Fusarium sp. (2BSTMHMM, 3ASTMHP, 5ASP, 1ASU, 4BSP, 4BJP, 5BKJP, 4BSU, 1BJP, 2 BSP, and 4BKJP) and 4 isolates ofTrichoderma sp. (2BSTMHP, 4BSTMHP, 2BSPH, and 2BSTMHH). All of these endophytic fungi were able to suppress the population of R. similis and they had potential to promote plant growth.

Abstract

Distribution of Potato Cyst Nematode in Wonosobo and Banjarnegara, Central JavaPotato cyst nematode (PCN), Globodera spp., is the primary pathogens that infect potato plants and has been distributed world wide. This study aimed to determine the geographic distribution and species of PCN that infect potato plants in Wonosobo and Banjarnegara, Central Java through a survey, morphological and molecular approaches. Morphological characters were observed among cyst (fenestra diameter, distance from anus to the fenestra, and the Graneks ratio, eggs (length and width of eggs), and the juvenile stage 2 (J2) (length and width of the body, the length and width of the head, the length of the stylet, knob type, as well as the length of the tail). While the molecular identification by polymerase chain reaction is based on the amplification of the internal area transcribed spacers using G. rostochiensis PITSr3 specific primer, G. pallida PITSp4 specific primer and universal nematode primer ITS5. Twelve isolates of PCN, i.e. 5 isolates from Wonosobo and 7 isolates from Banjarnegara were used in this study. The results showed that all isolates were identified as single species, G. rostochiensis.

Abstract

Insect Species Diversity Index in Oil Palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) Planting in Helvetia Estate, PT.Perkebunan Nusantara II. The purpose of this study was to find out the insect species diversity index inoil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) planting in Helvetia Estate, PT. Perkebunan Nusantara II. This surveystudy was conducted from June to August 2101 in Helvetia Estate, PT. Perkebunan Nusantara II, DeliSerdang District with the altitude of ± 23 meters above sea level. The insects were caught by busingsweep net, pit fall trap, and light trap, then they were observed at the Plant Pest and Disease Laboratory,Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sumatera Utara. The result of this study showed that 298 insectsconsisting of 9 orders and 29 families were trapped and caught in the oil palm plantation area which hasproduced and 367 insects consisting of 10 orders and 34 families were trapped and caught in the oil palmplantation area which has not produced. The value of Insect Species Diversity Index according to thehighest Shanon-Weiner (H’) in the oil palm plantation area which has produced is 2.9276 (adequate) andin the oil palm plantation area which has not produced is 2.9848 (adequate). While the value ofSorensen’s Quotien of Similarity for the kinds of insects in both areas is 79.365%.Keywords: Diversity index, oil palm, insect

Abstract

Research on title effect of insecticides to control bean fly (Ophiomyia phaseoli Try.) on soybean(Glycine max L.). Using chemical insecticide to control bean fly unwisely caused pest resistance. For that purpose in this research used biology, botany, and chemical insecticide to determine theireffectiveness. This research was conducted at Kelurahan Berngam, Kecamatan Binjai Kota,Kotamadya Binjai from June to July 2013 using factorial randomized block design. The resultshowed used soursop leaf 200 gr/l of water (P1) and Bacillus thuringiensis 1 ml/l of water (P5) wereeffective to control population of bean fly with percentage of attack (0.00%) and number of larvae(0.00 larvae). Using soursop leaf 200 gr/l of water (P1) also effective to control number of bean flywas (0.00 bean fly). Time symtomp in P1 (soursop leaf 200 gram/l of water) also lower than theother treatments was six days after planted. Keywords: insecticide, Glycine max, Ophiomyia phaseoli
