Abstract

This research aimed to determine the effect of brown algae compost (Sargassum polycystum)enriched with various of dosage N, P and K fertilizer against inceptisol chemical properties andmaize. This research was conducted in June – October 2013 using non-factorial randomized blockdesign, with 7 treatment and 4 replication. That is P0 (not enriched brown algae compost), P1, P2,P3, P4, P5, and P6 (compost enriched urea 2g and 4g dosage level, SP36 2g and 4g dosage level,KCl 0,5g and 1g dosage level). Applied before the vegetative period (when beginning to cultivatethe land) and before the generative period. Parameters measured d canopy, and cob with cornhuskweight. The results showed that brown algae enriched compost significantly affect the pH (H2O),K-exchange soil, plant height and cob with cornhusk. The best dosage is P5 (brown algae compostenriched with urea 4g, SP36 2g, and KCl 0,5g application on early vegetatif and urea 2g, SP36 2g,dan KCl 1g application at the end of vegetative period) against cornhusk cob weight and dry weightof maize plant canopy.Keywords : Brown Algae Compost, N, P dan K Fertilizer, Inceptisol, Maize

Abstract

The objectives of the research were to study the effect of the number host C. sacchariphagus andsex ratio of C. flavipes on the progeny produced. The research was held at the Laboratory ofSugarcane Research and Development Sei Semayang, Binjai, Medan, North Sumatera from Julyuntil September 2013. This method used Randomized Complete Design Factorial with two factors.The first factor was sex ratio of C. flavipes (1 male:1 female, 1 male:2 females, 1 male:3 females, 2males:2 females, 2 males:3 females) and the second factor was number of C. sacchariphagus (5 and10 larvae) with three replications. The results showed that the number of larvae ofC. sacchariphagus and sex ratio of C. flavipes significantly effected on the sex ratio of progenyproduced. The highest percentage (58.67%) of the number of host C. sacchariphaguon 5 larvae andthe lowest (36.00%) on 10 larvae. The highest sex ratio (1:2.5) on 1 male:1 female and lowest(1:0.6) on 2 males:3 females. Average male and female of sex ratio is 1: 1.54.Key words : C. flavipes, C. sacchariphagus, parasitism, sex ratio,.

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of paclobutrazol and potassium fertilizer onthe growth and yield of peanuts. The research was conducted at Pasar I Tanjung Sari street, Medanwith the height of 25 metres above sea level, began from May until October 2013. The research wasarranged with a randomized block design with two factors. The first factor was concentration ofpaclobutrazol ( 0 ; 75 ppm ; 150 ppm and 225 ppm ) and the second was dose of KCl ( 0; 0.15 g ;0.3 g and 0.45 g ) . The parameters observed were plant height, number of ginofor, number ofproductive branches, number of unproductive branches, days to flowering, harvesting, pod weightper sample, number of filled pods per sample, number of empty pods per sample, weight of grainper sample, weight of grain per plot and weight of 100 grains. The results showed that plant height,number of ginofor, number of productive branches, days to flowering, pod weight per sample,number of filled pods per sample, weight of grain per sample, weight of grain per plot, and weightof 100 grains were significantly affected by paclobutrazol concentration. However all parametersobserved were unsignificantly affected by dose of KCl. There was also no interaction betweenpaclobutrazol concentration and dose of KCl .Key words : peanuts , paclobutrazol , KCl fertilizer.

Abstract

The objective of this experiment is to determine the response adding to the coumarin in to microtuber production of potato plantlets (Solanum tuberosum L.) varieties of granola. The research wasconducted at Tissue Culture Laboratory Experiment Berastagi where the surface level is atapproximately at ± 1340 m above sea level. The experiment was started on October 2013 untilFebruary 2014 using a completely randomized factorial design with two factors. The concentrations ofcoumarin was (0,000; 0,025; 0,050; and 0,075 gram/l) and the volume of coumarin was (30, 60, 90,120 ml). Parameters observed were the percentage of plantlets which produces micro tubers, thepercentage of plantlets were dead, the number of tubers on each micro planlet, the weight of tuberson each micro planlet, weight of each micro tuber, and diametres of tuber in each planlet. Theresults showed that adding of coumarin concentration into micro-tuber production of potatoplantlets was significantly affected the percentage of plantlets which produces micro tubers (1 BSAand 2 BSA) and the diameter of micro tubers of each plantlet. Adding of coumarin volume intomicro-tuber production of potato plantlets significantly affect on the percentage of plantlets whichproduces micro tubers (1 BSA and 2 BSA), the number of tubers on each micro planlet, the weightof tubers on each micro planlet, weight of each micro tuber, and diametres of tuber in each planlet.Key words : potatoes, production, micro tuber

Abstract

The objective of the research was to test antagonism ability of endophytic fungi to control C. oryzaeand C. lunata in laboratory. This research was conducted in Plant Disease Laboratory,Agroecotechnology Program Study, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sumatera Utara, Medan(± 25 m asl) from November 2013 until February 2014. The method used was RandomizedComplete Design with two factors in 3 replications. The first factor was the pathogens (C. oryzaeand C. lunata) and the second factor was the endophytic fungi (Penicillium sp., Trichoderma spp.,Aspergillus sp1., Trichocladium sp., Aspergillus sp2. and Nigrospora sp.). Parameters observedwere inhibiting zone, width of inhibiting zone, diameter of pathogen colony and growth width ofpathogen colony. The results of this research showed that the pathogens, the endophytic fungi andinteraction between them affected significantly to the inhibiting zone, width of inhibiting zone,diameter of pathogen colony and growth width of pathogen colony . The good result to controlC. oryzae was showed on P1E2 (C. oryzae + Trichoderma spp.) with 67,56% andP1E5 (C. oryzae + Aspergillus sp2.) with 67,52% and to control C. lunata on P2E1(C. lunata + Penicillium sp.) with 70,10% in inhibiting zone.Key words: C. oryzae, C. lunata, endophytic fungi, rice

Abstract

Deli tobacco is one of the leading agricultural commodity in North Sumatera . Water availablity andorganic material is very important aspect that influence quality of tobacco leaf. For that purposethis research aimed to know response growth and yield of Deli tobacco by giving vermicompost onwater treatments. This research was conducted in Green House of Agricalture Faculty University ofnorth sumatera in November 2013 – January 2014 using a randomized block design with twofactors and three replications. The first factor is vermicompost giving (control, 10%, 20% and30%). The second factor is water treatments (100%, 75%, 50% and 25%). Parameter observed wereplant height, numbers of leaf, stem of diameter, long leaves sand, 1 foot long leaves,leaf widthsand, 1 foot wide leaves, thick leaf sand, 1 foot thick leaves, summarize of leaf area, greennes ofleaf, root length, plant dry weight, water use efficiency.The results showed that vermicompostgiving significantly effect stem of diameter 18 days after transplanting. Water treatments showsincreasing effect stem of diameter 46 days after transplanting, long leaves sand, leaf width sand,thick leaf sand and water use efficiency.Keywords : vermicompost, water treatments, Deli tobacco

Abstract

A field experiment was carried out in oil palm plantation to determine the efficacy of selectedherbicides to control Clidemia hirta (L.) D. Don. in oil palm plantations. Treatments were trichlopyr+ aminopylarid 333 + 17 g. ai/ha, trichlopyr + aminopylarid 416,25+21,25 g. ai/ha, trichlopyr +aminopylarid 499,5 + 25,5 g. ai/ha, trichlopyr 536 g. ai/ha, trichlopyr 536 g. ai/ha, paraquat 400 g.ai/ha + methyl metsulfuron 15 g. ai/ha, glyphosate 960 g. ai/ha + trichlopyr 251,25 g. ai/ha,glyphosate + trichlopyr 620 + 98 g. ai/ha and without treatment. The results showed that theefficacy of both single and mixed herbicides significantly affected mortality and percentage of plantdry weight 16 WAT. Herbicide trichlopyr with dose of 536 g. ai/ha was the most effective treatmentto control C. hirta (L.) D. Don. with mortality rate of 97,73%.

Abstract

The objective of the research was to determine the growth and production of mustard withapplication of liquid organic fertilizer from paitan . Paitan has the potencial as the nutrition adderfor plant because it can be rapidly decomposed and has many nutrients. Therefore, the applicationof liquid organic fertilizer from paitan is hoped to increase the growth and yield of mustard. Thisresearch conducted in Screen House, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sumatera Utara, Medanon November 2013 to January 2014. The research used non-factorial randomized block designnamely of liquid organic fertilizer treatment (4, 8,12,7, 14 and 21 ml/plant/aplication). Variableobserved were leaf greeness scale, net assimilation rate, relative growth rate and fresh weight perplant. The result showed that the application of liquid organic fertilizer from Tithonia diversifoliasignificantly did not effect the growth and production of mustard. The best result showed by giving8 ml/plant/application liquid organic fertilizer.Keywords : liquid organik fertilizer, mustard, paitan

Abstract

Utilization of saline soil for soybean cultivation will decrease soybean production. Micorizainoculation and ascorbate acid treatment on saline soil will give a positive response to the soybeangrowth and production. This research was conducted at experimental field Kecamatan Percut SeiTuan Kabupaten Deli Serdang during Februari – Mei 2013, using split split plot design with threefactors. The main factor was salinity level were electrical conductivity 4-5 mmhos/cm and II:electrical conductivity 6-7 mmhos/cm. The sub plot was giving of ascorbate acid (0 dan 500 ppm)and MVA inoculants (MVA inoculants type 1, type 2, type 3, type 4 and type 5) as sub sub plot.The result of the research showed that single factor micorhizae innoculation or ascorbate acidapplication showed gave a positive response of root infection degree, root dry weight, root volume,shoot dry weight, number of pods per plant contains, the number of empty pods per plant and 100seed weight. Aplication mycorrhizal and ascorbic acid on Saline soils with dhl 4-5 will increasesoybean growth, production, and highest degree of root infection.

Abstract

Using of endophytic fungi to control Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. capsici and Alternaria solani invitro. This research aimed to know efectivity of endophytic fungi to control F. oxysporum f.sp.capsici and A. solani in vitro. This research was conducted on Plant Disease Laboratory, Faculty ofAgriculture, University of North Sumatera, used Randomized Complete Design with two factors intwo replicates. First factor was kind of pathogen (F. oxysporum f.sp. capsici and A.solani). Secondfactor was kind of endophytic (E1, E2, E3, E4, E5, E6, E7, E8, E9, E10, E11, E12, E13, E14 andE15). The result showed that kind of phatogen, kind of endophytic and interaction between them sosignificantly effect on inhibiting zone, growth width of colony and diameter of colony. The bestresult was showed on E6 and E3 to control F. oxysporum and A. solani with 56.89% and 54.10 %inhibiting zone.Key words: endophytic fungi, F.oxysporum, A. solani.
