Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of danger of erosion on land coffee plant ( Coffea Sp ) insome of the District Dairi . Coffee plants can grow in a variety of soil types and grows well ataltitude 800 sd 2000 m above sea level , the temperature is 15 sd 25oC , rainfall 1,750 mm peryear sd 3.000 and pH 5.5 up to 6.5 . Number of Production Smallholders 2758.85 tonnes ofRobusta and Arabica coffee 10088.50 tonnes . In 2006 amounted to 2,865 tons , an increase of18,168 tonnes (2008 ) , dropped to 2,060 tons (2009 ) , be 12 847 tonnes (2010 ). 19,000 hectaresof land used , used for Robusta coffee smallholders and 8,495 for Arabica coffee 10504.5hectaresKeyword : Coffee Plant, Soil Slope, Erosion potential.

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of the composition of Sinabung volcanic ashand cow manure in the planting medium on the growth and production of Deli tobacco. Theresearch was conducted at Balai Penelitian Tembakau Deli (BPTD) Sampali, Percut Sei TuanDistrict Deli Serdang Regency North Sumatera with the height of + 15 metres above sea level,began from June until July 2014. The research was arranged with a non-factorial randomized blockdesign which is consisting of 6 treatmentsratio of top soil : volcanic ash : cow manure that is 15kg:0kg: 0kg (P0), 12kg: 2.5kg: 0.5 kg (P1), 12kg: 2kg: 1 kg (P2), 12kg: 1.5kg: 1.5 kg (P3), 12kg: 1 kg:2 kg (P4), 12kg: 0.5kg: 2.5 kg (P5). The result showed that the composition of volcanic ash and cowmanurein the planting medium significantly affected the plant height, number of leaf, stemdiameter, sand leaf length (Z), first feet leaf length (VA), sand leaf width (Z), first feet leaf width(VA), sand leaf area (Z) and first feet leaf area (VA) at 18 days after transplanting up to 50 daysafter transplanting. The composition of Sinabung volcanic ash and cow manure in the plantingmedium unsignificantly affected the sand leaf thickness (Z) and first feet leaf thickness (VA).Keywords: volcanic ash, cow manure, Deli tobacco.

Abstract

The aim of the research was to evaluate the response of latex production at various times application in multiple clones rubber plant to giving several sources hormone ethylene. The experiment was conducted in October 2013 to March 2014 in Sungei Putih Rubber Research Institute, Galang Subdistrict , Deli Serdang regency. Three-Stage Nested Design was applied with three replications. The first step was time application, i.e., a first application, a second application, a third application, and a fourth application, the second step was clones treatment, i.e., IRR 118 clones, PB 260 clones, IRR 42 clones, IRR 39 clones and the third step was stimulants treatment, i.e., without stimulants, ethrel, SP1, banana peel extract and extract of pineapple skin. Observed parameters was the latex volume. The study showed that time application had no significant increased on latex production, and clones treatment at various times application had no significant to produce on latex production, whereas stimulant treatment in multiple clones at various times application significantly increased latex production. IRR 39 clones were clones that experienced the highest increase in producing due to the provision treatment of stimulants. SP1 was a stimulant that increases the production of the highest latex. Ethrel, banana peel extract was a stimulant that can increase the production of latex higher than without stimulants. Pineapple peel extract resulted in clumping of latex flow on tapping grooves and a low yield of latex productionKeywords: Latex Production, Time Applications, Clones, Stimulants

Abstract

Volcanic ash had an acidic pH may degrade agricultural lands and the result of shallot production.The composition of giving about the volcanic ash, rice husk charcoal and rice straw compos canhelp the availability of nutrients through the release of organic acids thereby creating a plantingmedium that supports the growth and production of shallot. The objective of the research was todetermine the effect of composition of giving about the volcanic ash, rice husk charcoal and strawcompost on the growth of shallot. The research was done at experimental field of AgriculturalFaculty, University of Sumatera Utara, Medan in July-September 2014. The research usedrandomize block design with seven treathments and three replications. This study used arandomized block design Non Factorial with ten treatments and three replications. Parameterobserved were tillers number, wet weight per sample, wet weight per plot, dry weight per sample,dry weight per plot. The results of research showed that the composition of giving about thevolcanic ash, rice husk charcoal and straw compost influence significantly the parameters of tillersnumber 4 MST. There are no significant different for wet weight per sample, wet weight per plot,dry weight per sample, dry weight per plot.. The composition of giving volcanic ash 5 ton/ha + ricehusk charcoal 5 ton/ha + straw compost 3,75 ton/ha was the the best composition to produce tillersnumber of shallots.Keywords : rice husk charcoal, shallot, straw compost, volcanic ash

Abstract

Research aim to of this was to study effect of aplication empty palm oil fruit bunches (EPOFB)and depth biopori treatment on soil and oil palm nutrient content. The research was conducted inPTPN III Kebun Bangun since July- October 2013, used factorial randomized block design with 2factors and 3 replication. The first factor was aplication EPOFB with levels 0, 16, 32 and 48 kg.The second factor was depth biopori with 50, 75 and 100 cm. The results showed that the highestlevel of N-leaf obtained at a depth of 75 cm with biopori without giving EPOFB, the highest levelof N-soil acquired in treatment without giving EPOFB at depth of 50 and 75 cm, the highest palmleaf chlorophyll obtained at aplication 16 kg EPOFB at depth of 50 cm bioporiKeywords: Palm oil , empty palm oil fruit bunches (EPOFB), biopori

Abstract

One of determining factors of water supply for rubber plants are rain fall and rain day. Rain fall andrain day are factor of climates that often change as impact by climate changes. Climate changes cannegatively or positively effect rubber plantation production. This research was done inPT. Bridgestone Sumatra Rubber Estate plantations Dolok Merangir, Kecamatan Dolok BatuNanggar, Kabupaten Simalungun, North Sumatra Province, from February to Maret 2014. Thisresearch used to studied about influence of rain fall and rain day toward rubber plantationproduction aged 6, 10, 14 years in plantation. This reasearch used primary data that used foranalysis consists of latex production; rain fall data and rain day monthly in 2010-2012. Theanalysis method was double linier regression analysis and correlation analysis. Model analysistested by classic asumption test consists of normality test, heteroskedasticity test, multicollinearity,and autocorelations test by using statistic software SPSS.v.17 for windows. The regression analysisshows that rain fall and rain day variables not significant with alpha 5% (Sig > α 0,05) toincreased latex production of rubber plants aged 6, 10 and 14 years. The result from classicalassumption tests that used for seeing the feasibility of multiple regression equation concluded thatthe rubber plants aged 6, 10, and 14 years are qualified. The correlation result of rain fall and rainday with two-tailed analysis using significant level 1% is weak against the latex production ofrubber plants aged 6, 10 and 14 years.The largest correlation value contained between rain fall andrain day are 0,933 each with significant level 0,000 (Sig <α 0,01).Keywords: latex production, rain day, rain fall.

Abstract

Goosegrass is one of weeds that had negative effect on crops which is commonly found in oil palmplantation. In the past few years, the existence of this weed in Adolina Estate, PTPN IV has beenreported that population was difficult to control with paraquat and glyphosate. This research aims todetermine the dose response of the multiple herbicide resistance in Eleusine indica population toparaquat, diuron, and ametryn. The levels of paraquat applied were 0, 50, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600g a.i. ha-1; diuron at 0, 187,5, 375, 750, 1500, 3000, 6000 g a.i. ha-1, and ametryn at 0, 62,5, 125,250, 500, 1000, 2000 g a.i. ha-1. The treatments were arranged in randomized block design (RBD)and each treatments was made in three replication.The results showed that the multiple resistantpopulationEluesine indica from area of Adolina Estate, PTPN IV was reconfirmed resistant toparaquat but, diuron and ametryn controlled satisfactorily this population.Keywords : Paraquat, Diuron, Ametryn, Goosegrass, Resistance

Abstract

This research aim to determine the effect of several source and dosage of organic activators ondecomposition rate of empty fruit bunch. This study used a factorial randomized block design (RBD)consist of two factors and three replications. The first factor was the source of organic activatorsconsist of three treatments (chicken manure, cow manure, goat manure) and the second factor wasthe dosage of activator consist of 4 treatments (0, 15, 30 and 45% (w/w)). The results showed thatthe best organic activator in decreasing C/N ratio of compost was chicken manure, withdecomposition rate 10,77 unit/week. The best dosage activator in decreasing C/N ratio of compostwas 45% (w/w), with decomposition rate 17,51 unit/week. Increasing dosage of activator increasedthe decomposition rate, except for chicken manure. The best dosage of chicken manure to increasedecomposition rate of EFB was 30% (w/w).Key words : Oil palm empty bunche compost, organic activator, decomposition rate.

Abstract

The objective of the research was to know effect of chemical dormancy breaking treatments on theviability of pomegranate seeds. The research was conducted at the Laboratory of Seed Technology,Faculty of Agriculture, University of North Sumatra, Medan with a height of ± 25 meters above sealevel, in July 2014, using a completely randomized design with 10 level dormancy breakingtreatments (control, seed soaking treatment with H2SO4 (70%, 80%, 90 %), seed soaking treatmentwith KNO3 (0.1%, 0.2%, 0.3%), and seed soaking treatment with HCl (50%, 60%, 70%)).Parameters observed were germination rate (day), normal seedling (%), abnormal seedling (%),seeds that have not grown (%), and vigor index. The results showed that seed soaking treatmentwith H2SO4 significantly affect normal seedling, rate of germination, seeds that have not grown andvigor index but no significant effect on abnormal sprouts.Keyword : pomegranate seeds, dormancy, viability

Abstract

Pemberian pupuk NPK dan pemangkasan buah berpengaruh terhadap pertumbuhan dan produksisemangka. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan dosis pupuk NPK yang tepat danpemangkasan buah yang sesuai untuk pertumbuhan dan produksi semangka. Penelitian dilakukan dilahan masyarakat, Dusun Sei Mencirim Kecamatan Sunggal Kabupaten Deli Serdang, mulai bulanApril sampai Juli 2013, menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok faktorial dengan 2 faktor. Faktorpertama adalah Dosis pupuk NPK (0, 40, 80, 120 gram) sedangkan faktor kedua adalah jumlah buahper tanaman (1, 2, 3 buah per tanaman). Parameter yang diamati adalah panjang tanaman, jumlahcabang primer dan sekunder, berat buah, panjang buah, diameter buah, produksi per tanaman,produksi per plot, produksi per hektar, dan mutu buah.Hasil penelitian diperoleh bahwa perlakuandosis pupuk NPK berpengaruh nyata terhadap parameter panjang sulur umur 6 – 8 MST, jumlahcabang primer dan sekunder umur 5 MST, panjang buah, diameter buah, berat buah, produksipertanaman, produksi per plot, produksi per hektar dan mutu buah kelas A, B dan C. Jumlah buahper tanaman berpengaruh nyata panjang buah, diameter buah, berat buah, produksi pertanaman,produksi per plot, produksi per hektar dan mutu buah kelas A, B dan C. Sedangkan interaksi antaradosis pupuk NPK dan jumlah buah per tanaman berpengaruh nyata terhadap produksi per tanaman,produksi per plot dan per hektar.Kata kunci: semangka, pupuk NPK, pemangkasan buah.
