Abstract

The phenomenon of mazhaab differences among Muslims still faces various problems, such as discrimination and responses to diversity in the form of exclusive behavior among some Muslims. Research by the Setara Institute in 2023 shows that the level of intolerance among students is still high: 0.6% are exposed to violent extremist ideology, 5.0% are actively intolerant, and 24.2% are passively intolerant. This study discusses how religious moderation can be used as a framework and pedagogical approach to address sectarian differences in Islamic education. This study uses a literature review with a descriptive qualitative approach. Data analysis was conducted using an inductive approach, which draws conclusions based on an examination of various literature without using numbers or statistics, as is characteristic of qualitative research that emphasizes meaning and context. The results of the study show that religious moderation in Islamic education is an approach that emphasizes balance, tolerance, and social harmony amid diversity. Islamic education that adopts a multi-sectarian perspective and instills values of moderation can contribute to preventing radicalism, reducing excessive fanaticism, and strengthening social cohesion in the school environment. Abstract

The Qur’an functions as the primary foundation of Islamic teachings, providing theological guidance, an integrated epistemological framework, legal principles, and ethical directives relevant to contemporary life. This study examines the Qur’an through five major dimensions: its theological role as divine revelation, its epistemological structure integrating textual, rational, and spiritual approaches, its authority as the basis of Islamic law, its ethical contribution to the development of civilization, and its relevance to modern challenges such as science, technology, social change, and moral crises. The findings show that the Qur’an harmonizes faith, intellect, and moral action through universal values such as justice, compassion, responsibility, and human dignity. Legally, the Qur’an offers fundamental principles that can be developed through ijtihād and maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah to address contemporary issues. In education and civilization-building, the Qur’anic worldview encourages holistic human development and balanced social order. This study concludes that the Qur’an remains profoundly relevant for shaping a modern Islamic society that is ethical, intellectual, and justice-oriented, provided it is approached with contextual understanding and sound methodology.

Abstract

This study examines the contribution of classical creedal literature in explaining the concept of istighāthah and defining the boundaries of shirk in Islamic theology, while also assessing its relevance to contemporary istighāthah practices that often spark debate among Muslims. Using a qualitative descriptive approach and library research methods, this study traces the major works of scholars to find the principles of faith used to determine whether a request for help is a valid act of worship or has crossed the boundaries of tawhid into shirk. The results of the study show that there are three main principles that are strongly emphasized by classical scholars: attributing divine attributes to creatures, transferring mahdah worship to other than Allah, and inner beliefs that place creatures as independent owners of supernatural abilities. These three principles have proven to remain relevant in addressing the problems of modern istighāthah, especially in distinguishing between worldly requests for help, tawassul that is still within the corridor of sharia, and supernatural requests that contain elements of shirk. This study emphasizes the importance of examining contemporary religious practices through the framework of classical creed so that the community can understand the difference between reverence, tawassul, and forms of divine attribution that are not permitted in Islam.

Abstract

This study examines the erosion of the traditional Banjar sales contract (akad) in Pahandut Seberang amid the rapid growth of digital transactions such as GoFood and online shopping. For generations, the Banjar community has upheld the verbal akad expressed through the phrases “jual-lah” (sell it) by the seller and “tukar-lah” (I take it) by the buyer as a symbol of mutual consent, honesty, and ethical conduct in trade. This practice is deeply rooted in Qur’anic values, particularly the principle of tarāḍin (mutual willingness) as stated in Qur’an Surah An-Nisā’ verse 29. However, modernisation and digital technology have caused the verbal akad to diminish, especially in non-face-to-face transactions where ijabqabul is replaced by technical actions such as pressing the “order” button. This research employs a Living Qur’an approach and a qualitative-descriptive method through interviews, observation, and documentation with three informants: a Banjar seller, a GoFood driver, and a buyer. The findings reveal three patterns: (1) traditional sellers continue to preserve the akad as cultural identity and religious practice, (2) digital transactions eliminate verbal akad and transform social relations into impersonal interactions, and (3) buyers reinterpret akad through social expressions such as saying “thank you” as a sign of consent. Thus, the Banjar akad tradition is not entirely disappearing but undergoing a transformation of meaning amid technological change.

Abstract

The atomistic approach in Qur'ānic studies often separates verses from the context of their wholeness, thus risking a rigid partial understanding and obscuring the moral message of the sacred text. Responding to these methodological challenges, this study aims to analyse the operational function of munāsabah in Tafsir Al-Mishbah as the main hermeneutic tool to reconstruct the meaning of verses that appear incoherent. By applying qualitative literature method and descriptive analysis of historical and textual data, this study examines how the logic of inter-verse relationship is built in the frame of Nusantara tafsir. The analysis reveals that in the midst of the transformation of Indonesian tafsir towards adab al-ijtima'i style, M. Quraish Shihab succeeded in proving the harmony of the Qur'anic structure through a variety of relationship patterns in Q.S. Al-Isrā', namely mudhāddah (opposition), istitrād (further mention), and tafsīr (explanation). This study concludes that the application of munāsabah effectively overcomes the problem of fragmentation of meaning by binding separate verses into a unified structure, resulting in a systematic interpretation product and avoiding the rigidity of textual understanding.
