Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect ratio of melinjo leaf extract with papaya leaf extract on the quality of simulation crackers. This study used non factorial completely randomized design i, e: ratio of melinjo leaf extract with papaya leaf extract (E) (100%:0%, 90%:10%, 80%:20%, 70%:30%, 60%:40%, 50%:50%). The analyzed parameters were moisture content, ash content, β-carotene content, tanin content, texture, and sensory test (color, flavor, taste, and crispness). The ratio of melinjo leaf extract with papaya leaf extract gave significant effect on moisture content, ash content, β-carotene content, tanin content and sensory test of taste. The best composition which gave the best quality on melinjo simulation crackers was the ratio 50%:50% of melinjo leaf extract and papaya leaf extract. . Abstract

Identification of passion fruit maturity is still done manually by the farmers . Fruit was seen visually and responded by the brain to differentiate maturity levels . In large amounts it would be difficult to maintain their performance. This study was a non-conventional method of measurement that used digital image processing to produce data that would be processed by  artificial neural network and then processed using computer software that could be used to determine passion fruit maturity level. Passion fruit was identified based on the histrogram input image color ( RGB ) that was obtained from the results of the capture program built using Visual Basic. Some sample of the passion fruit learning pattern data had different weight values as input to the neural network using backpropagation method to distinguish raw, ripe and half ripe fruits. This identification system was capable to identify the entire category of fruit which was 94,4 % correct identification. From the identification results that had been done, the identification of the three outputs were 100 % ripe, half ripe  83,3 % , and 100 % raw passion fruit . Results of the identifications were affected by the fruit  shooting process. Key words : Artificial Neural Network, Back Propagation, Identification, Image Processing, Passion Fruit

Abstract

The increase of production and quality of palm oil and palm kernel oil is strongly influenced by the production of fresh fruit bunches. Therefore, efforts are needed to increase the production of fresh fruit bunches. Pabatu estate is one of business unit of PT Perkebunan Nusantara IV that has head office in Medan, North Sumatera and engaged in the business of oil palm plantation and processing. The Study was aimed to analyze factors that influence the cost application in achieving production target, such as maintenance, premi harvest, security, and transportation. The factors were analized by Analythical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. The results showed that maintenance cost was in first priority with the quality value of 0,4255. Security cost wast in the second priority with quality value of 0,2739. Harvest premi cost was in the third priority with quality value of 0,1613, and transportation cost was in the fourth priority with quality value of 0,1391, so that PT Perkebunan Nusantara IV Unit Pabatu should pay attention to maintenance cost in achieving production target Keywords: Analythical Hierarchy Process, Crude palm oil, Palm kernel oil, Fresh fruit bunch, Production system.

Abstract

On direct steam destilation type, destillation temperature needs to be considered. The temperature determines the quality of destilation product. This study tested various temperature on destillation of volatile oil in direct steam type destilation. The study was conducted at the Laboratory of Agricultural Engineering and analysis was done in Food Chemical Analysis Laboratorium Faculty of Agricultural in September 2014 to October 2014 A non-factorial completely randomized design with 95°C, 100°C and 105°C was used. Parameters measured were water content, free fatty acid and yield. The results showed that the temperature had  significant effect on yield. The best treatment was the U3 treatment (105°C) which produced 21,1% water content, and 0,44% yield. Key word: Destillation temperature, direct steam, patchouli oil

Abstract

In general, soybean epidermis peeler bring out soybean seeds along with the epidermis so it must be separated manually. Improvement is necessary to solve the problem. One of the alternatives is to modify the peeler by adding blower. With the addition of the blower, the soybean seeds and the epidermis brought out separately so that the peeler work capacity can be improved. Soybean epidermis peeler with blower was designed to peel the epidermis in the dry state. Blower in this peeler was centrifugal blower with 150 Watts of power, 3000 rpms of speed, and 2 inches diameter of the output hole. Effective capacity of the modified soybean epidermis peeler with blower in this study was divided into three different rate was blower with maximum rate was 54,64 kg/h; blower with medium rate was 43,48 kg/h; and blower with minimum rate was 52,63 kg/h. Keywords : blower, Soybean peeler, work capacity
