Abstract

Generally candlenut are still broken traditionally. The product broken candlenut is affected by immersion process ofdrying and it will affect the product significantly. This research was performed in December 2011 up to February 2012 atAgricultural Engineering Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture USU, Medan using non factorial randomized block design withone factor i.e immersion temperature (3 0C, 6 0C, and 9 C). The parameters observed were percentage of whole nut, thepercentage of nut broken in half, the percentage of crushed nut, the percentage of sticky core, immersion temperatureand engineering economics analysis using basic value, BEP, NPV, and IRR.  The results showed that immersiontemperature had significantly affected all parameters. The best result was immersion temperature at 3 0C. This equipmentis feasible to operate with the basic value of Rp. 119,92 kg-1, the BEP of 37.329,32 kg year, NPV of Rp. 8.121.452,19 ininterest 12% and Rp. 7.171.112,51 in interest 15%, and IRR of 37,64%.-10

Abstract

Food corps information system in Serdang Bedagai Regency are still stored in books and/or files that arevery limited in effectiveness. Computerized information delivery methods and internet networks are solutionsthat are worth to try to overcome the problems of information flow. Study was designed to produce systemsthat can help process the delivering, storing, and monitoring of data displayed in a web form. The systemswere designed in a user oriented programming language PHP, and MySQL database web Apachewebserver. This system could improve efficiency and effectiveness of information flow, especially food corpsinformation. The results showed that the distribution and types of food corps commodities in each district inSerdang Bedagai Regency was different. The spread and the kind depend on topographic, the price leveland market demand in the area.

Abstract

This study is on a test of the type of blade ofl fruit picker tool. This study was conducted to test the type ofblade of fruit picker tool using tamarind , melinjo, and  rambutan trees to determine the effective capacity, field capacity, percentage of defects of the tool and the level of operator fatigue. The research was conductedin Tridharma,  A. H. Nasution and Bunga Mawar Roads from February to August 2012 with tworeamentsnamely blade and fruit. Blade disc, blade star, blade rotary and rambutan, melinjo and tamarind. The results showed that various type of blade had highly significant effect the field capacity and thepercentage of damaged fruit but had no significant effects on the the effective capacity of the tool. Fruit  typehad significant effect on the  field capacity. The best type of blade of was disc blade with 16.91 kg h and percentage of 4.90% the smallest percentage of fruit damage found in melinjo with disc blade that is equa1,5%.-1

Abstract

This research was done to test the variant of the knife edge shape on the effective capacity of the equipment, percentage of material unpeeled, and fuel consumption on mechanical coconut peeler. This research was using non factorial completely randomized design. It was found that the effective capacity of the equipment, percentage of material unpeeled, and fuel consumption were 231.24 unit hour-1, 6,67%, and 2.37 litre hour-1 respectively triangle knife edge,  301.97 unit/hour, 13.33%, and 2.62 litre/hour respectively cone knife edge, and 192.48 unit hour-1, 13.33% and 1.85 litre hour-1 respectively nail knife edge. The results showed that the variant of knife edge had significant effect on the effective capacity and fuel consumption and had no effect on the percentage of material unpeeled. Key words: knife edge, peeler, coconut

Abstract

This research was held to analysis the efficiency of drip irrigation and crop water requirement of watermelon on ultisol soil. The parameters observed were water discharge, crop water requirement, physical properties of the soil, and the efficiency of drip irrigation (water usage and water storage). The results of this experiment indicated that the average value of water discharge was 898.4 ml.hour-1. The highest crop water requirement in the middle phase of growth was 6.23 mm.day-1 and the lowest crop water requirement occurred in the early phase of growth was 2.80 mm.day-1. Ultisol soil has sandy clay loam texture with a bulk density of 1.18 gr.cm-3, 2.12 gr.cm-3 particle density, and porosity of 43.20%. The largest water consumption efficiency was 100% and the lowest water consumption efficiency was occurred in the middle phase of growth i.e 96.7%. The largest water storage efficiency was occurred in the middle phase i.e 89.13% and the lowest water storage efficiency was occurred at the early phase of growth i.e 33.12%. Key words: Crop Water Requirement, Efficiency, Drip Irrigation, Ultisol Soil, Watermelon
