Abstract

Optimal body hydration is essential in supporting physical performance and training effectiveness, especially in sports such as pencak silat, which demand strength, agility, and endurance. Fluid imbalance, or dehydration, can impair muscle function, accelerate fatigue, and hinder the body's ability to adapt to training loads. This issue is often overlooked, particularly among young athletes who may lack awareness of proper hydration practices. This study aims to examine the effect of dehydration level on the training volume of pencak silat athletes enrolled in the Special Sports Class (KKO) in Semarang City. Dehydration was assessed by observing urine color using a standard hydration scale, while training volume was measured through heart rate calculations based on the Karvonen formula. Data were analyzed using simple linear regression and Pearson correlation. The results revealed a significant negative relationship between dehydration level and training volume. Higher dehydration levels were associated with lower training volume among athletes. These findings emphasize the importance of hydration monitoring in youth athlete training systems to ensure effective performance development and reduce the risk of fatigue or injury.

Abstract

This study aims to provide an in-depth analysis of the performance development process in handball extracurricular activities at the junior high school level, specifically at SMP Negeri 1 Juwana, Pati Regency. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, direct observations, and documentation studies involving coaches and the school principal. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model to explore the dynamics of coaching comprehensively. The study population includes all individuals directly involved in the handball extracurricular program, such as coaches, students/athletes, extracurricular coordinators or physical education teachers, and the school principal. The findings reveal that the coaching activities are being carried out, though the quality and intensity vary. Most of the training still focuses on mastering basic techniques. Student enthusiasm and coach dedication emerge as key supporting factors in the process. Nevertheless, the study also identifies several significant challenges, including limited facilities and infrastructure, insufficient time and funding allocation, and a lack of local competitions. These factors hinder the full realization of students’ performance potential. Despite these obstacles, the coaching program contributes positively to students' character development. As a follow-up, the study recommends improvements in facilities, increased training hours, enhanced coach competencies, stronger collaboration with stakeholders, and greater financial support.

Abstract

This study investigates the differences in physical literacy between 5th and 6th grade students at SD Negeri 1 Sadeng. The research focuses on students' ability to exercise, their knowledge about participating in physical activity, and their motivation to do so. Physical literacy, which includes knowledge, skills, encouragement, and understanding, is crucial for building healthy lifestyles. The study involved 40 students from grades 5 and 6 who were selected through purposive sampling techniques. The results showed that grade 5 students were mostly in the Beginner category in physical literacy, while grade 6 students were already in the Developmental category. The study also found significant differences in physical literacy, motivation, and knowledge between the two age groups. Although both grades showed progress, grade 6 students showed greater progress in these areas. The study underscores the importance of teachers providing additional support to grade 5 students to improve their physical literacy.

Abstract

The reduction of physical activity among children continues to be a major concern globally, including in Indonesia. The purpose of this study is to analyze physical literacy in upper-grade elementary students (V and VI) from SD Negeri Cepoko and SD Negeri Sadeng 01, Semarang City, employing a descriptive quantitative survey method. The study employed a total sampling method, involving 89 participants. Physical literacy was assessed across three domains: physical competence (measured through TIAMSA, PACER, and Sit-Up tests), motivation and self-confidence, as well as knowledge and understanding. The results revealed that most students were classified as progressing, with only a quarter reaching the achieving category. At SD Negeri Cepoko, all students were categorized as progressing, whereas in SD Negeri Sadeng 01, a number of students particularly male students in grade V and female students in grade VI reached the achieving level. These results highlight disparities in physical literacy outcomes between schools and student groups. Hence, improvements in PJOK learning strategies, teacher development, and supportive learning environments are required to encourage sustainable participation in physical activity.
