Abstract

This study aims to examine the short-term and long-term impacts of household consumption, domestic investment, foreign investment, and government expenditure on regional economic growth across 34 provinces in Indonesia from 2013 to 2022. The method employed is dynamic panel regression using the System Generalized Method of Moments (SYS-GMM). Our result shows that household consumption significantly and positively affects regional economic growth in both the short and long-term. Domestic investment shows a positive impact but is not statistically significant in either the short or long-term. Conversely, foreign investment exhibits a negative impact that is also not statistically significant over both time horizons. Government expenditure demonstrates a positive and significant impact on regional economic growth in both the short and long-term. Effective government policies are therefore necessary across the 34 provinces to foster both domestic and foreign investment.

Abstract

As the fourth-largest coffee exporter worldwide, Indonesia contributes significantly to the global coffee trade while contending with challenges such as export volatility, trade barriers, and the impacts of climate change. This study aims to investigate the determinants of Indonesia’s coffee exports, focusing on productivity, trade barriers, and climate variability. This study employed the Error Correction Model (ECM) to analyze time-series data from 1989 to 2022, sourced from the FAO, WITS, and the World Bank. The findings indicate that, in the long run, coffee imports, trade openness, and the extent of harvested land area are positively correlated with export performance, while export taxes and increasing land temperatures exert negative effects. In the short run, productivity is associated with increased exports, whereas land area appears to have a negative relationship. These findings suggest that addressing trade barriers, improving land management, and enhancing trade openness are essential for strengthening export competitiveness.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between local government expenditure allocation and poverty reduction and map the time needed to fade the disparity between the dichotomy of regions. The methods used statistical approaches and mathematical models, both linear and non-linear, to project the time of inequality fading by observing all districts and cities in Banten Province during the period 2005-2024. The study also examines the differences in spending patterns between North and South Banten in the context of fiscal decentralization. Key results show that spending on these functions has a strong negative correlation with poverty rates, while predictive models show optimistic and pessimistic scenarios in the fading of inequality. This study concludes that optimizing local government spending can significantly accelerate the reduction of poverty gaps. The contribution of this research provides a theoretical and practical basis for more effective fiscal policies in supporting inclusive and sustainable development.

Abstract

The development of tourism villages is a crucial strategy for enhancing the economic well-being of rural communities, although limited capital often acts as a barrier. This study examines crowdfunding-based investment innovations as an alternative to traditional fundraising methods for tourism villages, using case study in Ketapanrame Village. The study focuses on tourism infrastructure financing, community empowerment, and business diversification rooted in local wisdom. Results show increased citizen participation, job creation, and accelerated inclusive economic growth in the village. Community funding through crowdfunding has proven effective with transparent mechanisms, community-based dividend distribution, and clear boundaries. In addition to strengthening sustainability, this model promotes direct community involvement in development. These findings are expected to serve as a reference for policymakers and investors to design more innovative, educational, and community-responsive tourism village funding schemes.

Abstract

Coconut products, especially coconut water, have the potential to be carried out on a household or MSME scale. The purpose of this study was to identify processed products from coconut water that have the potential to be developed on an MSME scale in Indonesia. The study was conducted in 2 stages. The first stage is the identification of processed products from coconut water. The second stage is the selection of potential products. The selection of potential products was done by applying the Bayes method through interviews with 9 experts. The selection criteria were market potential, business capital, technology, human resources and and availability of raw materials. The study results showed that the products in the top 3 rankings were nata de coco, coconut vinegar, and packaged coconut water. The study results are expected to be useful for related stakeholders such as MSMEs, local governments, and universities to develop downstream coconut water products.

Abstract

This study estimates the heterogeneity of agglomeration externalities across employees' education levels in Indonesia. This study uses the 2020-2024 microdata and the Instrumental Variable (IV) Heckman model with the historical population density and the number of universities as IVs. The result indicates that social returns to education from the local high-skill labor market, which is a part of agglomeration externalities, are positively significant and higher for high- and medium-skilled employees than for low-skilled employees. This finding demonstrates the efficacy of public education investments, especially Indonesian government policy that can enhance the quantity and quality of university graduates, thereby promoting the transfer of knowledge to all employees and eventually reducing wage inequality between regions.

Abstract

This study examines the effects of the flypaper effect, fiscal stress, and tax effort on the financial capacity of South Sulawesi Province over the period 2002 to 2024 using the VECM method. In the short term, none of the identified factors exerts a significant influence on fiscal capacity. However, in the long term, the flypaper effect and fiscal stress are found to negatively affect financial capacity, whereas tax effort is found to have a positive effect. The flypaper effect indicates dependence on central transfers, reducing fiscal efficiency. Fiscal stress arises from imbalances that weaken capacity, while tax effort enhances fiscal autonomy by maximizing local revenue. These findings emphasize the importance of reducing fiscal dependence, improving spending efficiency, and promoting good governance to strengthen financial sustainability. The quality of institutions and governance also plays a crucial role in determining the success of fiscal policy at the regional level

Abstract

This study aims to analyze Semarang City's readiness to become a Smart City for sustainable development. This research employs qualitative analysis and utilizes secondary data from the mass media. The data were processed using Data Coding technique, Crosstab Queries, and Word Cloud Analysis. The result indicates that Semarang City has the potential for smart city development. It is supported by the implementation of flagship programs in Semarang City to achieve Smart City status, particularly in improving public services, creating a green environment, and fostering sustainable economic growth. Semarang City faces challenges such as inadequate supporting infrastructure for smart cities, disparities in technological know-how across society, and significant environmental challenges. Regarding implications, this study recommends that the municipal government undertake comprehensive development and training for the human resources involved in the Smart City initiative, in addition to providing technological outreach to the community to accelerate the Smart City initiative.

Abstract

: This study investigates the impact of infrastructure quality, encompassing roads, clean water distribution, and electricity consumption, on regional economic growth in Central Java from 2018 to 2024. A Bayesian Panel Data Regression model with a hierarchical structure was estimated using the Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method, assisted by Python programming, to address spatial heterogeneity, lag effects, and parameter uncertainty. Model validation employed Posterior Predictive Checks (PPC), Bayesian R², R-hat statistics, and Effective Sample Size (ESS). The findings reveal that past GRDP significantly influences current regional economic growth, while the direct effects of infrastructure variables are statistically insignificant. This outcome highlights that infrastructure quality is more important than quantity in promoting development. The study advances empirical methodologies by integrating full posterior inference with predictive validation, representing a state-of-the-art approach in regional economic analysis. The results provide strong evidence in support of formulating infrastructure policies that focus on long-term, sustainable Growth.
