Abstract

Hemoglobin is an iron-rich protein in red blood cells responsible for oxygen transport from the lungs to body tissues. Iron, along with vitamin B12 and folic acid, is essential for hemoglobin formation, with iron being a key component in heme production. Consuming instant noodles more than twice a week can increase the risk of metabolic disorders, such as obesity, high blood pressure, elevated blood sugar, and cholesterol. This study aimed to assess the hemoglobin levels of STIKES Panrita Husada Bulukumba students who consume instant noodles regularly. A descriptive cross-sectional quantitative study was conducted with 25 respondents. The results revealed a range of hemoglobin levels, with a low value of 8.0 g/dl, a normal value of 13.1 g/dl, and a high value of 16.1 g/dl, with a standard deviation of 2.04. The study found significant variation in hemoglobin levels among the students, with some indicating potential anemia and others suggesting polycythemia. This supports previous studies linking regular instant noodle consumption to malnutrition, particularly iron deficiency anemia.

Abstract

Conventional cigarettes and electronic cigarettes (vapes) have become significant topics concerning their impact on health, including cholesterol levels. Nicotine in cigarettes can increase catecholamine secretion, triggering lipolysis and elevating cholesterol levels. High cholesterol levels may lead to atherosclerosis, posing a risk of coronary heart disease. Objective: This study aims to compare cholesterol levels between active conventional smokers and active electronic smokers among adolescents. Methods: This research utilized a laboratory observation design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 30 adolescents, including 15 conventional smokers and 15 electronic smokers, selected using a purposive sampling technique. Results: Among conventional smokers, 13.3% had above-normal cholesterol levels, while this figure reached 40.0% for electronic smokers. The Mann-Whitney test revealed a p-value of 0.033 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference in cholesterol levels between the two groups. Conclusion: Electronic smokers exhibited higher cholesterol levels compared to conventional smokers. This finding suggests that electronic cigarette consumption poses a greater risk for elevated blood cholesterol levels.

Abstract

Crystals are formed about the concentration of various salts in the urine related to the patient's food metabolism and fluid intake and the impact of changes that occur in the urine after sample collection (i.e. changes in pH and temperature that change the solubility of salts in the urine and result in crystal formation). Calcium oxalate crystals are most commonly found in acidic and neutral urine. The most common form is the dihydrate form, colored crystals that resemble an envelope. This type of crystal is found in normal urine, especially after consuming large doses of ascorbic acid or foods rich in oxalic acid. This study used a descriptive research design. Urine sediment examination is one type of routine urine examination that uses a microscopic method using a microscope instrument. The results obtained from 36 urine samples of dug well water consumption showed 5 samples (13.9%) positive for calcium oxalate crystals, while 31 samples (86.15%) were negative for calcium oxalate. Based on the results of the study, it showed the presence of calcium oxalate crystals in the urine of residents who consumed boiled dug well water in Dampang Village, Bulukumba Regency.

Abstract

Data from the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2023, tuberculosis (TB) is a long-standing disease. The relationship between hemoglobin levels in tuberculosis, decreased hemoglobin levels in tuberculosis sufferers can be caused by the tuberculosis infection process. Bad habits such as staying up late, smoking, consuming alcohol, and unmet nutritional needs. While the relationship between erythrocyte levels in tuberculosis can affect all hematopoiesis series, especially in erythrocytes, when erythrocytes are infected, a reaction will occur where the life mass of erythrocytes is shortened by around 10-20 days, while in normal conditions the life mass of erythrocytes is 120 days. This research is a type of quantitative research with a descriptive research design using purposive sampling techniques. Based on the results of the study on the description of hemoglobin and erythrocyte levels in inpatients with tuberculosis at Prof. Dr. HM Anwar Makkatutu Regional Hospital, Bantaeng Regency, it was found that out of 250 samples of pulmonary tuberculosis patients, it showed that patients with predominantly normal hemoglobin and erythrocyte levels were 155 (62%) people, while patients with low hemoglobin and erythrocyte levels were 95 (38%) people.

Abstract

Blood glucose is a sugar found in the blood that is formed from Carbohydrates in food that are absorbed in large quantities into the blood and converted in the heart. In blood sampling alcohol is used to clean and disinfect the skin area before injection. This helps reduce the risk of infection by killing germs on the skin's surface. This study aims to determine the differences in the results of glucose level determination using the POCT device on specimens taken when the finger is dry and when the finger is still wet with 70% alcohol cotton. This study uses a laboratory experimental research design. The population of this study were students of Stikes Pantita Husada Bulukumba and the sample of this study was 53 capillary blood samples. The results of this study indicate that there is a significant difference in glucose levels in specimens taken when the fingers were dry and those that were still wet with 70% alcohol cotton. The results of the statistical test show that each data is normally distributed which meets the requirements for conducting the Wilcoxon test. The final results show a p-value of 0.000 <0.05, meaning that there is a significant difference in the average or a significant difference in specimens taken when the fingers were dry and those that were still wet. Conclusion: Based on the research conducted, it can be concluded that there is a difference in glucose levels between specimens taken when the fingers were dry and those that were still wet.

Abstract

Typhoid fever is a systemic infectious disease characterized by fever and abdominal pain due to the spread of Salmonella bacteria. Lymphocytes are a type of agranulocyte leukocytes that have various functional roles related to immune reactions to attacks by microorganisms, foreign macromolecules, and cancer cells. The purpose of this research is the describe of lymphocyte levels in typhoid fever patients at H. Andi Sultan Daeng Radja Regional Hospital, Bulukumba Regency. This study is descriptive to see the picture of lymphocyte levels in typhoid fever patients. This study uses a total sampling technique where the samples taken were 50 patients. The results of the study showed that 22 patients (44%) had high lymphocytes (lymphocytosis), 11 patients (22%) had normal lymphocytes, and 17 patients (34%) had low lymphocytes (lymphopenia). Of the 50 patients, 22 patients (44%) had a high lymphocyte count (lymphocytosis), based on age and gender, the largest number were those aged <11 years, 27 people (54%), and 29 women (58%).

Abstract

Blood sugar testing is essential for diabetes management and should be fast, accurate, and affordable. This study aims to determine the difference in blood sugar levels between immediate and delayed (1-hour) serum examinations using vacuum gel separator tubes at Prof. Dr. H. M. Anwar Makkatutu Bantaeng Hospital. An observational laboratory research with a comparative quantitative design was conducted on 23 purposively selected patients undergoing routine check-ups, without a history of diabetes mellitus. Blood samples were analyzed immediately and after a 1-hour delay at room temperature. Results showed that in immediate examinations, blood sugar levels ranged from 79 to 161 mg/dL, with a mean of 109.26 mg/dL. In delayed examinations, levels ranged from 81 to 164 mg/dL, with a mean of 111.74 mg/dL. Statistical analysis revealed a significant difference between the two groups (P < 0.05). The findings suggest that delaying blood sugar testing by 1 hour can lead to measurable changes in serum glucose levels, emphasizing the importance of timely sample processing in clinical settings.

Abstract

The outbreak of COVID-19 has tremendously affected the world’s aviation business by causing significant losses and organizational difficulties. Specifically, in this paper, the analysis of the changes in the conditions of the pandemic’s effect on the financial and traffic indicators of the companies in the aviation field and patterns of their operational strategies is considered. Based on the data, which covers January 2019- December 2021, it is established that there are revenue and passenger indicators that decrease with only partial restoration by the end of 2021. Various financial records obtained from the airline reports reveal massive reductions in revenue and increased expenses on cancellations and the grounding of aircraft. Using the passenger traffic data from IATA and ACI, it is possible to study the passenger volumes and analyze the time series to determine main recovery tendencies. Primary data from the surveys conducted in 2020 and 2021 to understand the passengers’ confidence and travel inclination revealed a gradual recovery. This paper also focuses on other adaptive actions by airlines, like route changes and operation strategies to minimize losses. The results imply a focus on effective crisis management and policy measures to promote the improvement of resilience in businesses and industries. The issues and guidelines for future preparation are the creation of financial buffers, the implementation of contingent organizational structures, and the development of additional funding sources. Based on the current study, the following recommendations are proposed to policymakers, airline operators, and other related stakeholders.

Abstract

This study analyzed the impact of urbanization on vegetation cover in Ambon City using Google Earth Engine (GEE) technology and the NDVI index. The methods used include Sentinel-2 image data processing and field validation at 40 sample points conducted in Google Earth Engine. The analysis revealed that the Non-vegetation area has a percentage area of 29.25%, Sparse vegetation area of 19.89%, Medium Vegetation area of 21.80% and Dense Vegetation area of 29.06% of the total area of Ambon City center. The results of this study emphasize the urgent need for conservation policies and utilization of monitoring technology in the planning of sustainable green open space in Ambon City Center.

Abstract

Land cover change is a global phenomenon triggered by human activities, including mining, which has significant impacts on the environment and ecosystems. In Indonesia, particularly on Halmahera Island, nickel mining has become one of the main economic sectors, but this activity often results in serious environmental degradation. The data used in this study is PlanetScope satellite image data for 2016, 2020 and 2024 which has a 3-meter spatial resolution. The image data was then interpreted and digitized to obtain land cover classes consisting of settlements, farming areas, vegetation and water bodies. The validation results of land cover in 2016, 2020, and 2024 obtained accuracy values of 92%, 90%, and 95%, respectively. In 2016, settlements had an area of 222.79 ha, mining area of 364.98 ha, vegetation of 52,938.88 ha, water body of 212.88 ha. In 2020, settlements were 343.92 ha, mining areas were 1,329.18 ha, vegetation was 51,853.55 ha, water bodies were 212.88 ha. In 2024, settlements are 563.92 ha, mining area is 4,498.32 ha, vegetation is 48,464.41 ha and water bodies are 212.88 ha. The mining area certainly continues to increase in area every year.
