MILANG Journal of Mathematics and Its Applications, originally established in 2002 as the Journal of Mathematics and Its Applications (ISSN 1412-677X), transitioned to online publishing in 2018 and was renamed in 2022 to reflect its broadened scope. The name MILANG, a Sundanese word meaning “to count,” also stands for the journal’s key focus areas: Mathematics in Informatics, Life Sciences, Actuarial Science, Natural Sciences, and Graph Theory. This journal, published twice a year in June and December by the Department of Mathematics, IPB University, embraces an open access policy, making all articles freely available upon publication to support the global dissemination of innovative mathematical research.

Abstract

This paper discusses an optimal transaction interval for a consumption and investment decision problem for an indi- vidual who has available a riskless asset paying fixed interest rate and a risky asset driven by Brownian motion price fluctuations. The individual observes current wealth when making transactions, that transactions incur costs, and that decisions to transact can be made at any time based on all current information. The trans- actions costs is fixed for every transaction, regardless of amount transacted. In addition, the investor is charged a fixed fraction of total wealth as management fee. The investor’s objective is to maximize the expected utility of consumption over a given horizon. The problem faced by the investor is formulated in a stochastic discrete-continuous-time control problem. An optimal transaction interval for the inverstor is derived.

Abstract

Dalam artikel ini dibahas suatu formulasi Hamilton untuk menggambarkan gerak gelombang interfacial yang meram- bat dalam dua arah. Persamaan Boussinesq yang diperoleh ditun- jukkan memiliki struktur sebagai suatu sistem Hamilton dengan peubah kanoniknya adalah simpangan gelombang di interface yang bergerak ke arah kanan, dan simpangan gelombang lainnya yang bergerak ke arah kiri. Dalam hal ini menggunakan asumsi batas atas rata. Hamilton dari sistem ini adalah penjumlahan energi kinetik dan energi potensialnya, tetapi berdasarkan pada asumsi gelombang panjang dan amplitudo kecil.

Abstract

Dalam tulisan ini dikaji model mangsa-pemangsa Bazykin [1] yang merupakan pengembangan model May [4] dengan menambahkan aspek kejenuhan interaksi pada mangsa dan pemangsanya. Setelah melakukan penskalaan baru dan pelinearan di sekitar titik tetap, akan diperoleh kelas-kelas parameter yang akan memunculkan suatu orbit periodik dengan menerapkan prinsip bifurkasi Hopf. Visualisasi keberadaan orbit periodik akan dilakukan dengan bantuan software LOCBIF.

Abstract

This paper is a survey study on applications of boot- strap methods for estimating the probability of misclassifications in two-groups discriminant analysis. Here we use the linear discrimi- nant function as classification rule. Some comparative studies on the performances of the considered estimators are also discussed.

Abstract

Sering ditemui dalam proses difusi diperlukan penentuan satu permukaan bebas dari data di batas yang berlebih. Satu teknik penyelesaian konstruktif yang umum digunakan ialah metode garis. Tulisan ini memberikan langkah yang diambil untuk mendekati berbagai masalah syarat batas bebas yang eksplisit maupun im- plisit untuk persamaan difusi satu-dimensi dengan mempergunakan satu barisan masalah syarat batas dari satu persamaan diferensial biasa. Diperlihatkan bahwa persamaan ini memiliki solusi yang da- pat diperoleh dengan mempergunakan teknik invariant imbedding. Juga diperlihatkan untuk satu model bahwa solusi hampiran akan konvergen ke solusi klasik yang (hampir) tunggal saat parameter diskretisasi menuju nol.

Abstract

We will provide an abstract setting for mixed finite element method for biharmonic equation. The abstract setting casts mixed finite element method for first biharmonic equation and sec- ond biharmonic equation into a single framework altogether. We provide error estimates for both type biharmonic equation, and for the first time an error estimate for the second biharmonic equation.
