Abstract

Background: Self-care management is a critical component of treatment for patients undergoing hemodialysis, yet many patients experience difficulties in maintaining optimal self-care behaviors. Self-efficacy has been identified as a key psychological factor that may influence patients’ ability to manage their health effectively.  Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between self-efficacy and self-care management in patients undergoing hemodialysis. Methods: The research design used was an analytical survey with a cross-sectional study approach with quantitative research methods. Sociodemographic questionnaire, The Hemodialysis Self-Management Instrument (HDSMI-18) questionnaire, and The Chronic Kidney Disease Self-Efficacy (CKD-SE) questionnaire were utilized in this study. The Chi-Square test was employed to analyze the correlation between self-efficacy and self-care management of patients undergoing hemodialysis. Results: A total of 72 respondents participated in this study. Most respondents had high self-efficacy and good self-care management, which were 49 (68.1%) and 54 (75%) respondents, respectively. According to the Chi Square test, there was a significant correlation between self-efficacy and self-care management in hemodialysis patients, with a p-value of 0.001. Conclusion: Self-efficacy is significantly associated with self-care management among patients undergoing hemodialysis, highlighting self-efficacy as an important determinant of self-care management.

Abstract

Background: Temper tantrum is a common emotional response in preschool children and is often influenced by parenting styles applied by parents in daily life. Inappropriate or inconsistent parenting may increase the frequency and intensity of temper tantrum behavior, which can negatively affect children’s emotional and social development. Objective: This study aimed to determine the relationship between parenting styles and temper tantrum among preschool children. Methods: This study employed a quantitative correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of parents and preschool children aged 4–6 years at a kindergarten in Manado, North Sulawesi province, Indonesia, with a total sample of 32 respondents selected using total sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires measuring parenting styles and temper tantrum levels. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis with the Spearman Rank correlation test. Results: The majority of parents applied a moderate parenting style category (56.3%) and most preschool children experienced temper tantrum at a moderate level (71.9%). Spearman Rank test showed a statistically significant moderate positive correlation between parenting styles and temper tantrum (rs = 0.502, p < 0.05). Conclusion: Parenting style is significantly associated with temper tantrums among preschool children. Improving parenting practices may help reduce temper tantrum behaviors in preschool children.

Abstract

Background: Cyberbullying has become a significant problem among adolescents, particularly with the increasing use of digital technology. Excessive gadget use may increase the risk of negative online interactions, including cyberbullying, which can impact adolescents’ emotional and psychosocial well-being. Objective: This study aimed to determine the association between gadget use and the incidence of cyberbullying among adolescents. Methods: This study employed a quantitative correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of 127 students, with a sample of 56 respondents selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires measuring gadget use and cyberbullying. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis with the Fisher’s exact test. Results: The majority of respondents had high gadget use (83.9%) and high levels of cyberbullying (82.1%). The Fisher’s exact test indicated a significant association between gadget use and cyberbullying incidence, with a p-value of 0.004 and an odds ratio of 18.000. Adolescents with high gadget use were more likely to experience cyberbullying compared to those with lower usage. Conclusion: There is a significant association between gadget use and cyberbullying among adolescents. High gadget use increases the likelihood of exposure to cyberbullying. Therefore, efforts to promote responsible gadget use and improve digital literacy are essential to reduce cyberbullying among adolescents.

Abstract

Background: Father involvement plays a crucial role in early childhood development, particularly in shaping children’s emotional well-being. However, in many contexts, paternal roles are still limited due to socio-cultural and structural factors, potentially affecting children’s emotional outcomes. Objective: This study aimed to examine the association between father involvement and emotional development in early childhood. Methods: A quantitative cross-sectional study with a correlational design was conducted, which involving 51 fathers who had children aged 4-6 years, selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using Father Involvement Questionnaire and Early Childhood Emotional Development Questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using univariate and bivariate analysis, with the Spearman Rank correlation test applied to assess the relationship between variables. Results: The findings showed that most fathers had a moderate level of involvement (45.1%) and most children demonstrated moderate emotional development (45.1%). A significant association was found between father involvement and children’s emotional development (p = 0.001), with a moderate positive correlation (r = 0.469). Higher father involvement was associated with better emotional development outcomes among children. Conclusion: Father involvement is significantly associated with emotional development in early childhood. Strengthening paternal roles through increased engagement, emotional support, and participation in daily parenting activities is essential to promote optimal emotional development.

Abstract

Background: Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) remains a major public health concern due to the risk of mother-to-child transmission during pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding. Although the Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV (PMTCT) program has been integrated into antenatal care services in Banda Aceh City, HIV screening coverage among pregnant women remains limited. Objective: This study aimed to describe the knowledge level of pregnant women about preventing mother-to-child HIV transmission in public health centers in Banda Aceh, Indonesia. Methods: This study employed a quantitative descriptive research design using a cross-sectional approach. A total of 108 pregnant women were selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire consisting of 18 items designed to assess pregnant women's knowledge of HIV and the prevention of mother-to-child HIV  transmission (PMTCT) program. The collected data were analysed using univariate analysis. Results: The majority of pregnant women had a good level of knowledge, accounting for 91 respondents (84.3%) and 17 (15.7%) respondents had a moderate level of knowledge. Conclusion: Most pregnant women attending public health centers in Banda Aceh demonstrate a good level of knowledge regarding the prevention of mother-to-child HIV transmission. However, a proportion of respondents still had only a moderate level of knowledge, indicating the need for continuous health education and strengthened antenatal counseling to improve awareness and support the successful implementation of PMTCT programs
