Abstract

This paper explores how the prominent figure KH. Syafi'i Hadzami, affectionately known as Muallim Syafi'i Hadzami, successfully instilled classical Islamic teachings deeply within the Betawi community. The primary focus is on analyzing his unique educational approach, which ensured the continuous transmission of traditional scholarly knowledge across generations. The research relies purely on library research methodology, involving a careful analysis of various books, treatises, legal opinions (fatwas), and historical records written by and about the Muallim. This study dissects his unconventional teaching strategies practiced outside of formal classrooms, specifically within vibrant majelis taklim and halaqah (study circles). The secret to his success is revealed not merely through the robust classical curriculum (kitab kuning), but through his expertise in seamlessly integrating pure Islamic teachings with the everyday cultural nuances of Betawi society. This article demonstrates that traditional knowledge can thrive even amidst the pressures of urban modernization, provided it is delivered in a localized, community-embracing manner, as exemplified by Muallim Syafi'i Hadzami. Abstract

Islamic education requires a solid philosophical foundation to maintain its direction amid the currents of modernity and secularism. Islamic metaphysics offers a comprehensive ontological, epistemological, and axiological basis for constructing an integrated educational system. This study aims to examine the fundamental concepts of Islamic metaphysics and their relevance as foundational principles of education. The research employs library research with a descriptive–analytical qualitative approach. The findings indicate that Islamic metaphysics is grounded in the concept of tawḥīd as the ultimate reality, from which emerge the Islamic perspectives on human nature, knowledge, and life’s purpose. Its implications for education include: (1) educational goals that integrate worldly and spiritual dimensions; (2) a holistic curriculum that harmonizes scientific knowledge with spiritual values; (3) learning methods that respect and nurture human fiṭrah; and (4) comprehensive evaluation encompassing cognitive, affective, and spiritual domains. Islamic metaphysics thus offers an alternative paradigm capable of addressing the crisis of meaning within modern education, which often tends toward materialism and pragmatism. Abstract

Listening skills in grade II students of SDN Padang City are still low, Most students are not focused and are still playing when their teacher is telling a story in front of the class. In addition, the lack of facilities and infrastructure at SDN Padang City is also a factor that hinders the creation of interesting learning. The general purpose of this study is to test the effect of using the role playing model on the listening skills of grade II students of SDN Padang City, where this model involves students to play roles in the stories they will listen to. The method used in this study is a descriptive qualitative method. Data were obtained through observation, testing and documentation. Based on the answers and processes during the learning process, the results of the study can be seen showing that there was a change in students' listening skills after using this role playing method.
